Hi, friends!

Here is another edition of A New Day In The Life, a little snapshot into our days. I really enjoy writing these posts, and I love looking back to see what life was like with Quinn even just a couple of months ago. It’s crazy how quickly things change with a baby. Ok, here we ago!

1:30 AM – I hear Quinn on the baby monitor and he’s ready to eat! I feed him.

2:00 AM – I put Quinn back to bed. He falls right to sleep. I eat apple crisp and work on a blog post. (I know, I know”¦ I should have gone back to bed, but I was hungry and wired.)

3:00 AM – I climb into bed and toss and turn. My mind won’t shut off, and I can’t fall asleep because I’m stressed about falling asleep. Blah.

4:00 AM – I sort of fall asleep.

4:30 AM – I hear Quinn fussing in his crib. I turn on the monitor and see that he’s still asleep, but his legs are flailing around. I assume he’s gassy and uncomfortable, so I pick him up and burp him. It works like a charm and he barely wakes up, so I put him back to sleep. I eat a white chocolate Justin’s Peanut Butter Cup, brush my teeth and then go back to sleep”¦ sort of.

5:15 AM – Mal’s alarm goes off. I hand him the baby monitor and he takes it into the kitchen while he makes breakfast for himself. I go back to bed.

6:30 AM – I hear Quinn on the baby monitor, which is back on my bedside table since Mal took Murphy for a walk and returned it there. I get up and wish Quinn a “good morning.” He immediately stops crying and gives me a hugggge smile! We hang out on the couch in the living room and then he starts to get fussy again, so I feed him.

6:45 AM – Murph and Mal return from their walk and then Mal leaves for school.

7:00 AM – I make breakfast (egg sandwich with extra bacon and butter + iced coffee with SO Delicious French Vanilla coconut milk creamer).

7:15 AM – I eat breakfast and hang out with Quinn and (creepy) Murphy.

photo 3 (15) (800x600)

7:30 AM – Quinn plays butterflies while I watch the news and fold laundry. (I feel like I am always doing laundry and there are only 3 of us!) I eat a Justin’s Peanut Butter Cup. It’s delicious with iced coffee!

8:00 AM – I change Quinn’s diaper and outfit. Can we talk about this onesie? It might just be my favorite one that he owns. Ashley gave it to me before Quinn was born, and I can’t believe it fits. Where does the time go?

8:15 AM – I get Quinn ready to go and we drive to Southfield to meet Kerrie for a run.

8:30 AM – Kerrie and I run 3 miles and take turns pushing Quinn in the jogging stroller. He snoozes the entire time.

9:00 AM – I stop by 1st Stop for an iced coffee. I order one that is half decaf vanilla hazelnut + Hawaiian Chocolate Nut. I need a little caffeine boost.

9:10 AM – We arrive home. Quinn is sound asleep in his car seat, so I bring him into the bathroom and take a quick shower and then get dressed.

9:30 AM – Quinn wakes up and we play “magic baby,” which is basically peek-a-boo but with singing. He laughs his head off. It’s the best.

9:45 AM – Quinn starts to get a little fussy and it’s time to eat again.

10:05 AM – Quinn finishes eating and we cuddle on the couch. I watch TV and drink my iced coffee.

10:15 AM – I burp Quinn and then make second breakfast, which is leftover home fries with a fried egg and melted cheese on top. I eat it while Quinn parties in his lounger. He recently learned how to screech, so he kicks (hello, Lord of the Dance!), screeches with happiness and has a blast. This kid does not stop moving. Ever.

11:00 AM – I get Quinn ready to run some errands, which includes printing some photos at CVS for his baby book. I’m trying to stay on top of it as much as possible! (FYI: I really like this baby book. It doesn’t go into great detail month-by-month, but it leaves you plenty of space for photos, which I love. A picture says a thousand words!)

12:00 PM – We return home. I make lunch, which is zucchini noodles (using my Veggetti Sprial Vegetable Slicer – best thing ever) with salmon and spicy mustard drizzled on top. Then, I eat the other peanut butter cup from the morning.

12:30 PM: Right on schedule, Quinn wants to eat.

1:00 PM: Quinn finishes eating and immediately gets gassy. I burp him. He gets the hiccups. We walk around the house and then go outside. We see the praying mantis, who apparently lives in our backyard. We look at him/her, but don’t touch. We practice petting Murphy.

1:25 PM: I put Quinn in his “spaceship” and he falls right to sleep. I work on this post and reply to emails. I eat a Honey Crisp apple, which are the best this time of year.

2:00 PM: Quinn wakes up, which is perfect timing because we need to leave for his 4-month doctor’s appointment soon. We take Murphy for a quick walk and then hit the road by 2:30 PM.

3:00 PM: We meet Mal at the doctor’s office. Quinn gets his 4-month shots. He cries. I cry. We are all okay in the end.

4:15 PM: On the drive home, Mal and I decide to stop for a beer at the Abington Ale House. We also end up ordering a couple of appetizers to share for dinner.

6:00 PM: We return home. I finish this post. Bed soon!

The end.

  1. This is super random, but I thought of it after reading through this post…I think what so many of us love about your blog is that you’re always just unapologetically you. Even something as small (and awesome!) as eating a chocolate pb cup in the morning (which, come on, we all do now and then) and not prefacing it with something for an unnecessary “excuse”, is refreshing. What I gues I’m trying to say is just, thank you for being real! 🙂

  2. Girl, I just want to say I went through a few mos this summer when my little was the same age as Quinn and I could NOT sleep when I went back to bed after getting up with her. Hang in there, I swear it’ll get better and you’ll feel like a normal person again!!!!

  3. What a crazy day…and to end it all with 4 mo. old shots. At least Mal was there to help and be a support system. PS the pug onsie? cutest ever.

  4. I love seeing these. It’s so great to see how people just… go about their days and get stuff done. You’re crazy productive and inspiring and awesome.

  5. These sleepless nights will pass. I was and still am some nights the same way after putting my little one down again at night. I don’t know if I am stressing about anticipating his next wake up or what, but coffee and chocolate do make things better ALWAYS!

  6. LOVE these posts! Your salmon lunch looks incredible! I totally hear ya on the Lord of the Dance. Lately, I can barely change my daughter’s diaper. She’s all over the place!

  7. He is so adorable – those eyes! My kids were super gassy too and we played a game where we pushed their knees to their chest (while on their back) and bingo – gas release! Loved your post!

  8. Sleepless nights pass and as they get older they start taking longer naps…my son naps once a day for 2-3 hours in the afternoon and the best part is on the weekends he and I nap together!!!!! i never thought it would be that way when he was tiny and taking cat naps.

  9. Thanks for the post!! Few things: I can never fall back asleep after waking to feed my 5 mo old twins or pump…its so annoying; My babies never stop moving either when they are awake! I wish I had that energy!; I had a handful of tootsie rolls at 2 am this morning. It was amazing.

  10. Wow…A super mom ! I was tired by 9am ..and you even went for a run !
On the other hand …. I wonder if Justin’s PB cups are available in Canada ….those look devine 🙂

  11. You have really embraced motherhood in a beautiful way.

I promise that you won’t be a zombie mom for too much longer! I simultaneously miss those days and am super thankful that my kids don’t wake up anymore (except to use the bathroom).

I can’t believe I”m going to be THAT PERSON, but where did you get those gold pumpkins? I used to have adorable velvet pumpkins but I broke them last year and haven’t found a decent non-glass replacement.

  12. Isn’t it the best when your baby smiles when they see you first thing in the morning? I love it! This day sounds less crazy than some of the other ones that you have posted. I hope you start being able to get a full nights sleep soon though!

  13. I love reading these posts! When did you decide to move Quinn over to his crib? I have a 3 mon old and am thinking I need to make the switch!

  14. Love it!! My girl is 3.5 months and I’m back to getting no sleep! I feel like I live life between nursing sessions and fussy meltdowns – so not a lot of time 🙂

  15. Hi Tina! First of all, motherhood totally suits you. I’ve been reading for many years and you’ve honestly never looked more beautiful than you do being a mama! I love reading these posts! My girl is 6 weeks and it’s fun to see how other babies and mamas are! I’m not sure if you’ve answered this before (I apologize if you have!), but do you use anything extra for neck support for Q when you use the jogging stroller (I have the same car seat and Chicco stroller)? Also, when did you start running with him? I’m not planning to run with my baby anytime soon but was curious how you make it work since I know they usually recommend waiting until six months to run with babies (I’m not judging at all – I think it’s great you’ve made Quinn a part of your exercise routine!!). So, any tips you have that have made it easier/more comfortable are appreciated. Thanks so much!

  16. When I have trouble falling back asleep, I concentrate on an image or a phrase. Usually I’ll say the phrase “I love sleep” in my head to make me embrace sleep more. It seems to help 🙂
