Day 2 was a busy one!
It started with a delicious breakfast at the hotel. I ordered the fresh fruit plate with baked sweet potatoes and sausage on the side as well as a glass of freshly pressed green juice. Simple, delicious, nutritious.
After breakfast, the group headed outside to the pool area for a sports medicine session with Ty and Josh. They shared a number of mobility and strengthening exercises, which were specific to CrossFit and intended to prevent injury and improve performance.
A bunch of the exercises were ones I had done at 781 in the past, but I definitely learned some new ones to take home with me.
Scapula push-ups? Hello! I definitely need them in my life.
After the mobility and stability session, we all headed to CrossFit 10 Los Cabos for a 90-minute workout, which was longer than a usual CrossFit class, but Ty wanted to give us some extra time to work on things we wanted to improve. At dinner the night before, she asked each of us to give her three CrossFit skills/lifts that we wanted to work on, so she could add them to her programming for the trip. How cool is that? I love that she did this. I always want to improve, and I know other CrossFitters do too.

The CrossFitters might recognize the “10 Principles of Physical Fitness” (in Spanish, of course) on the wall of CrossFit 10.
Even in different countries, there are so many similarities!
After some skill work on pull-ups (some people worked on kipping while others worked on butterflies), we started the strength part of the workout, which was 1 Hang Snatch + 2 Overhead Squats every 90 seconds for 15 minutes.

FYI: It’s bad. I should not be looking at the ground. I should be looking straight ahead or slightly up (like everyone else in the class).
Looking down at the floor is especially problematic when your coach teaches you how to really pop your hips on a Hang Snatch.
I actually popped my hips so much and so hard, I smacked myself straight in the forehead with the bar because I was looking down. For real. Like hard. It hurt, but I was more startled (and embarrassed) than anything. I thought my bonehead move would turn into a big ol’ bruise in the middle of my forehead, but it never did””just a weird bump, which, thankfully, isn’t all that noticeable.
After that, I had no problem looking straight ahead during my Hang Snatches and Overhead Squats. Lesson learned.
Mal, of course, took advantage of my especially klutzy moment and made fun of me (once he knew I was ok) all afternoon long. Haha! I love that we can laugh about that kind of stuff!
After our workout at CrossFit 10, we headed back to the hotel for lunch. This time, I went with the pulled pork sandwich, which was served inside a lettuce wrap with sweet potato and beet chips on the side.
Holy yum, I love pulled pork.
After lunch, we had a short break and then reconvened to go to the beach for our second workout of the day.
Yay, beach WOD!
This workout started with a warm-up and then six all-out, uphill sprints. They were tough, especially in the blazing heat. I was huffing and puffing like crazy!
The WOD was crazy-hard (for me), but we were paired with a partner, so we each had a buddy to help us through it. Thank goodness for mine””I don’t think I could have done it without her!

50 meter swim
The banded partner sprints were no problem for me. Ok, well, they were challenging and my quads burned so much trying to run through sand, but they were do-able.
The 50 meter swim, however, was so tough for me””mentally and physically.
I don’t swim (only in life or death moments).
I’m terrified of the water, especially in the open ocean.
There are sharks, people.
But, I thought it would be really lame to skip out on this workout just because of the swimming, so I bucked up and gave it my best. (FYI: See the boat on the left side of the photo of Mal and me below? The orange buoy right in front of it is how far we swam each time. There and back. It was deep, scary, and possibly/probably shark-infested water.)
Well, after the first round of swimming, I wanted to quit the WOD so much. I hated being in the water, and I heard my breathing get faster and faster the farther I swam away from the beach. I was starting to panic, so when I got back onto land after the first round, I seriously considered asking Ty for an exercise substitution because I didn’t think I could make it through three more rounds of swimming. I didn’t want to be a wuss, so I just followed my partner back into the water and tried not to think about the creepy things below. I don’t know if I got used to being in the water or what, but long story short, I survived and swam all 400 meters”¦ and lived to tell about it.
After the WOD, I was really proud of myself. I’m so glad I didn’t quit and powered through a huge fear of mine.
And, to celebrate, I drank a million cocktails.
Ok, not a million, but I enjoyed quite a few, including a margarita at a special margarita happy hour with everyone on our trip.
We had the choice of blackberry, raspberry, or lime margaritas.
I went with a lime margarita on the rocks with salt. Mmm!
After happy hour, it was time for dinner. Once again, we enjoyed a wonderful Paleo menu. I started with the artichoke salad, which was served with arugula, fennel, lemon juice, and red wine vinaigrette.
For my entrÃ©e, I had the grilled chicken with sweet potato mash. It probably doesn’t sound all that exciting, but both the chicken and sweet potatoes were so flavorful.

And live music.
It was a wonderful way to end a wonderful day!
