Helloooo!
A bunch of you guys asked me how I make my steel-cut oatmeal in the crock pot and, let me tell you, it’s crazy easy!
Are you ready for this? The recipe is only 3 ingredients, and I love how simple and versatile it is. I add all sorts of delicious ingredients to my oatmeal to jazz it up so I’m not eating the same old thing more after morning. Current favorites: Stonyfield Greek yogurt, pureed banana (like what I make for Quinn), and (surprise) Teddie peanut butter.
Ingredients:
- 1 cup steel-cut oats
- 4 cups water
- a few shakes of sea salt
Directions: Combine steel-cut oats, water, and sea salt in crock-pot and cook on low heat for 2-3 hours, stirring occasionally. You can also add brown sugar, maple syrup, nuts, dried fruit, chia seeds, etc. to the crock pot before you cook it. I just make my oats plain because I’m boring. Haha! Honestly, I just like to switch it up with my toppings and mix-ins, so I find that making a plain pot of oatmeal gives me lots of options come breakfast time.
FYI: My crock pot is bad-ass and cooks things super fast even on low heat, so you might need to play around with the timing a little bit.
And, just like that, you have Crazy Easy Crock Pot Steel-Cut Oatmeal! Boom.
Then, I use a 1/2 cup measuring cup to portion out my oatmeal into individual containers. It’s actually a heaping 1/2 cup for each serving””well, ok, it’s actually pretty close to 3/4 cup for each one. Those oats really plump up in the crock pot! I like to store my steel cut oatmeal in glass containers (I have this 4-piece set from Crate & Barrel), so then I just add my favorite toppings and pop it in the microwave to warm it up in the morning for breakfast. Easy as that!
