Comfort Foods

I’m feeling really blah today, so I’m all about the comfort foods”¦ and sweatpants, DVR, and lots of pug hugs. Hey, whatever gets you through, right?

For lunch, I whipped up a batch of Evan’s Snickerdoodle Dessert Hummus. I wasn’t sure if dessert hummus was possible, but this stuff is delicious. I’ve been spooning it straight from the container into my mouth all day long.

And I got to make it with my cool new toy that I got for Christmas: Smart Stick Hand Blender. It is awesome.

I topped some banana slices with a hearty serving Snickerdoodle Hummus. Holy yum!

Lunch also included plenty of buffalo sauce, which probably isn’t a comfort food for most people, but it is for me. Love it.

I added the buffalo sauce to a bowl of mashed potatoes with some shredded Asiago cheese.

After lunch, I threw on my sneakers for a workout in my living room. Thanks to a recommendation from Courtney, I did Jackie Warner’s Power Circuit Total Body workout from ExerciseTV.

The workout was 45 minutes of circuit training, which was divided into several 4-minute segments that target a specific body part. Each segment included three different moves, which you repeated at the end as a “power burn session.”

I really liked the fast-pace of this workout. No dillydallying between exercises! It was pretty challenging too. I definitely felt the burn! All you need for the workout is a mat and set of dumbbells.

During the afternoon, I finished off the Salt & Vinegar Roasted Chickpeas.

And an apple.

Snow, snow go away.

  1. Everyone is making that snickerdoodle hummus. Clearly, I’m going to have to give it a try.
That’s a very nifty blender! I was given an immersion blender from a friend. It’s the best thing since sliced bread as far as I’m concerned.

  2. Glad you liked the hummus! I’ve been all about the sweatpants all break and classes start tomorrow. It’s going to be hard motivating myself to look presentable.

  3. I got that same immersion blender for Xmas… I need to break it out and make something with it! It’s still in its box on the floor of my kitchen ?! I love how it comes with so many fun pieces.

Whenever I feel blah… I make a soup with beer in it. Sounds kinda weird, but it works 😉

  4. Ugh, I hate the snow day blues. I hate being cooped up inside the house all day!
I’ve had Evan’s dessert hummus bookmarked since he posted it – I really want to make it (especially since I am off today and tomorrow) but we are snowed in and have no chickpeas in the house. Ugh…

  5. i love me some Jackie Warner! i definitely prefer her to Jillian Michaels. and her workouts make me sore & sweaty!

  6. I am SO blah today, and since we are leaving for vacation tomorrow, we have no food, much less comfort food! I ended up laying in my bed for an hour instead of working out; good for you for getting up and doing it!

  7. that hummus sure looks interesting… sweet hummus. i wonder how it would taste. i’ll probably make it since i have a jar of barney butter. i’m so lazy about working out today, i don’t know how you do it everyday! that’s great! 🙂

  8. I’ve GOT to try that hummus. I’ve never heard of dessert hummus. Love your lil doodad you got for xmas too, would be great for smaller jobs for sure!

Love your blog, just found you while blog hopping!

  9. I feel like I owe you a warning about that chopper! I received one as a bridesmaid gift about 5 years ago. I loved it! However, do not try make nut butter with it! I burned out the chopper part (the stick blender still works fine.) I was so bummed, my boyfriend bought me a new one for xmas. I exchanged it for a food processor instead so I can make nut butter, but I still miss my little mini chopper. 🙂

  10. That hummus is popping up all over the place! Apparently I must try it. The winter in general is getting to me, too! Do you guys have any other warm weather vacation plans this winter, or was Arizona it?

  11. Snickerdoodle dessert hummus! Wow! I know what I’m having for dessert tonight (dessert = dinner). Thanks for the tip on the Jackie Warner workout. I’ve been looking for something for those rainy days. Looking forward to trying it out.

  12. I just got the Jackie Warner dvd and did it today too! She is tough!
Who do you think would win in workout challenge….Jackie…or Jillian??

  13. I am SO making that hummus! Does anyone know if I can sub honey for the maple? I have an aversion to all things maple!

  14. I feel you…I’m so sick of this snow and cold! The winter blues really hit me end of January. I made dessert hummus before and it was quite yummy, much better than you’d think. I got it all to myself because no one wanted to try it. haha.

  15. I know! We’re supposed to get more snow. But thankfully the next storm is happening when I’m not working so I’ll be able to relax inside! 🙂

  16. That dessert hummus sounds so good!

I’m feeling blah today too. I’ve not felt good and it’s dragging me down. Ready for it to be gone!
