The nice folks at BuildASign offered to print some Carrots ”˜N’ Cake bumper stickers for me, so here’s your chance to win one! Aren’t they fun!?!

The first 50 people who email me with their full name and mailing address will get one sent directly to them. Ready? GO!

Mal and I ended up having quite a bit of food leftover from our barbeque, so you’re going to see a bunch of leftovers on CNC in the next few days. I can’t stand wasting food, so I incorporated a lot of it into our menu for the week.

Today’s lunch: grilled veggie burger, cherries, crudités with Annie’s Goddess Dressing for dipping, and two cupcakes (only one of which is pictured).

The Health Benefits of Milk

I stumbled upon an article about the health benefits of milk in the June issue of Real Simple magazine, and I thought you guys might find it interesting too. You can figure out which kind of milk will do your body good!

What’s your preference when it comes to milk?

I like organic soy milk the best because it’s slightly sweet, thicker than other types of milk, and blends well with my morning iced coffee.

Off to walk the pug! See ya!

  1. I really like hemp milk. It’s expensive, but it’s a nutritional powerhouse and I don’t drink much milk straight-up — more a little bit here and there in smoothies and whatnot. For coffee, I use organic half and half.

  2. Cute stickers!

I like the unsweetened vanilla almond breeze. Mostly because of the low calories and it has about the same amount of vitamins as milk, it’s just lacking in protein (which I get plenty of anyway from other sources.)

  3. I just did a reader give away with build a sign. It was pretty popular…it was for 250 biz cards.

And milk? Not really a huge fan of it for many reasons and never used to have ANY for about 10 years but recently, I just HAVE to have half-n-half back in my coffee. And in my iced coffees, too 🙂

  4. I used to love milk — I was a 3-4 glasses per day kind of person. Then I started having reactions to milk so I cut it out 🙁 Now I’m an almond milk fan — I don’t drink it plain, but I like it with cereal or cooking/baking.

  5. To be honest, it’s not that I don’t LIKE milk, I just don’t really drink enough of it to justify buying a carton without it going sour. Because of this, I tend to buy Almond Breeze because it’s more shelf-stable, and only really add it to things like oats. I don’t mind soymilk though!

  6. I would say unsweetened vanilla almond milk – only because I love the taste of it in my coffee, oatmeal, cereal and baking! But nothing beats a cold glass of regular milk when eating a chocolate chip cookie 🙂

  7. Those stickers are super cute!

Nice link – I hope that people realize that most alternative milks are great for those avoiding dairy and soy, but don’t provide the protein and calcium that the dairy group is centered around (unless fortified).

  8. I have always been a milk drinker and then found out the “negatives” of milk as well as soy milk if it has beemer modified. So I am a unsweetened vanilla almond milk gal. Love that stuff!

  9. I did soy for a long time until I discovered almond milk. Since I get a decent amount of soy in my diet already, I figured it wouldn’t hurt to cut some of it out. Almond milk isn’t as thick, but I really like the slightly sweet, nutty taste as well as the fact that it’s SUPER low-cal. Definitely a plus for me.

I love your sticker! So stinkin’ cute!!!

  10. i drink whole, raw (unpasteurized, non-homogenized), 100% grassfed milk from a local farm. the stuff is so amazingly delicious and healthy, i don’t know if i could ever go back to “normal” milk!

  11. I’m really not a fan of dairy milks. I’ve been trying to steer clear of them for a while now (with the exception of ice-cream because I can’t justify buying coconut milk ice-cream when it’s full price)! I usually drink coconut milk or the odd time hemp or almond milk.

  12. That’s a truly fascinating article. In the States I always drank normal skim (although really only with cereal), but in the DR I’ve switched to vanilla soymilk. The Domincan milk in a box creeps me out. I don’t know why since I’m apparently fine with drinking soymilk that way… haha!!

    Cute stickers!

  13. I like plain old regular skim milk. Can’t seem to get myself to like the others… maybe I need to try harder! Cutest bumper sticker ever!

  14. I’m pretty much on Almond milk these days, but once in a while I’ll buy a half gallon of skim. Sometimes there’s nothing like Skim in cereal.

  15. I always thought i would never be able to drink milk till about a year ago when i pushed myself to start. i drink at least a glass of skim milk a day. i am obsessed with dunking everything in my milk – cookies, graham crackers yum!!

  16. I love soymilk but I decided t try So Delicious Unsweetened Coconut Milk. It tastes amazing in my coffeee and is only 50 calories. Also perfect for my summmer smoothies.

  17. I LOVE milk! My husband and I go through about 2 gallons per week. We typically drink plain skim milk, although for a treat I will buy organic milk. I would love to buy organic all of the time, but we go through so much that it just gets too $$$. I also buy light vanilla soy milk once every few months and I love this, too! Milk is such a great way to get added protein to your diet and so good for our bones. 🙂

  18. I’m a regular 2% milk drinker. I tried soy milk a few years ago and recently tried almond milk. Neither are for me. I like my milk from a cow.

  19. I really like unsweetened vanilla almond milk for cooking, cereal, smoothies, etc.

Has anyone every tried the Organic Silk Soymilk…I believe it is unflavored? I would like to try it but I wanted to get some other opinions first!

  20. consuming too much dairy gives me migraines 🙁 SO I drink almond milk, which i LOVE, and i’m thankful every time i have it that there’s a healthy alternative to cow’s milk!

  21. Cute stickers!!

There’s only one kind of milk my stomach can handle and it’s this stuff called Calorie Countdown by Hood’s. I don’t drink it for the “calorie countdown” part..but it’s honestly the only type of milk (that actually has protein) that I can stomach! Even soy and lactose free upsets me.
