Lunch

Mal and I ended up having quite a bit of food leftover from our barbeque, so you’re going to see a bunch of leftovers on CNC in the next few days. I can’t stand wasting food, so I incorporated a lot of it into our menu for the week.

Today’s lunch: grilled veggie burger, cherries, crudités with Annie’s Goddess Dressing for dipping, and two cupcakes (only one of which is pictured).

The Health Benefits of Milk

I stumbled upon an article about the health benefits of milk in the June issue of Real Simple magazine, and I thought you guys might find it interesting too. You can figure out which kind of milk will do your body good!

What’s your preference when it comes to milk?

I like organic soy milk the best because it’s slightly sweet, thicker than other types of milk, and blends well with my morning iced coffee.

Off to walk the pug! See ya!

  1. Ahh you’re doing the Boilermaker?! It is so fun. 🙂 I live in Syracuse so I’m only about 45 minutes from there and I usually do it every year (not this year though because 9.3 miles in the heat while 5.5 months pregnant doesn’t sound so fun).

  2. I had wasting leftovers too! And thanks for sharing that article. I know there are differences btw all the different varieties of milk but never really bothered to do much research…I just keep a couple of different kinds around and drink whatever I feel like that day!

  3. I believe whole, pasteurized milk is the best, especially for growing children. They *need* the fat and calories in the milk in order to grow, especially their brains! Fat is not as bad for us as we want to believe – see the documentary Fat Head. We do buy organic milk from a local dairy in glass bottles – in the long run, it’s cheaper because we drink it.

  4. That bumper sticker is ADORABLE!!!!!! I thought of you the other day when I went to pick my kids up from school; there was a granddad there to pick up his grandkids, and he brought his two pugs with him. Needless to say, they were VERY popular, lol!

  5. I really like a nice cold glass of skim milk with cake or cookies, but I usually keep coconut milk on hand for cereal and smoothies. I love how frothy it gets!

  6. I’ve been on a huge almond milk kick. I’m vegan, so I don’t drink the cow’s milk. I get unsweetened original, usually whole foods store brand, and I think it’s great for cereal/oats and iced coffee, and it’s pretty low-cal! I do also really enjoy original soy in my iced coffee though for a little bit of sweetness.

  7. I prefer Almond Breeze because I like the taste. It’s also shelf stable before it’s opened and keeps longer in the refrigerator after it is opened than regular milk. I’m the only one who drinks it and mostly only use it my smoothies, so it takes a while to go through it. If I get regular milk, I almost always end up throwing some of it out.

  8. I’m into soy milk, unsweetened or not, I like them all, thoug hI’m sure I would love almond/coconut milk if I tried them 🙂

  9. I read that article in Real Simple too. I hardly ever drank milk until I was pregnant. Since then I am a 1% milk girl. I am curious to try Almond Milk though.

  10. Snackplates sometimes make the best lunches in my opinion! I only ever really get to drink skim milk, because its what’s in the house already and I don’t feel like dishing out more money for a carton of “special” milk that I probably won’t even finish before it goes bad. But I love soy milk when I can get it; so thick and delicious!

  11. When I buy cow’s milk, I always get whole. I’ve done this ever since reading ‘Real Food’ by Nina Planck. I get it from a local, organic dairy and it comes in glass bottles. However, I have a hard time finishing off a bottle before it goes bad, so I usually only but it if I have a plan to use it up. Otherwise I get unsweetened almond because it stays good longer!

  12. I don’t drink cow’s milk anymore…I actually prefer So Delicious Unsweetened Coconut Milk…it’s SO good in my coffee! It’s also good with overnight oats, granola…in smoothies…it’s basically amazing all the time! AND it has a bunch of Medium chain fatty acids, which are good for you!
