Celebrating Mal’s 35th Birthday

Mastermind Weekend 1/16

Hey there!

I'm Tina

I’m the owner of Carrots ‘N’ Cake as well as a Certified Nutrition Coach and Functional Diagnostic Nutrition Practitioner (FDN-P). I use macros and functional nutrition to help women find balance within their diets while achieving their body composition goals.

An in-depth, 4-week reverse dieting course for women who feel like their metabolism has slowed down, think they might have hormonal imbalance and can’t lose weight no matter what they do.

Good morning and happy Monday to you! I hope you had a lovely weekend! 🙂

Saturday morning started with our usual CrossFit + donuts and iced coffee from Coffee Shack… but the workout was ridiculous this time. Holy quads. I paired up with my friend Marisa and thank goodness that I had her to keep me going. I was struggling at points, but I made it… without dying… just barely. I mean, Karen (150 wallballs) + 50 Squats Cleans? Um, yea, I’m still insanely sore today!

Post-CrossFit, Qman and I hit up Coffee Shack for an iced coffee and donuts.

We shared a chocolate frosted one – his favorite!

And then brought home a glazed donut for Dada – his favorite!

Back at home, we did a few things around the house to get ready for Mal’s birthday party and then I headed out to Whole Foods to pick up our catering order and a few last-minute items (while Mal put Quinn down for a nap).

When I returned home, it was just about party time!

Before long, our hometown friends (+ their families) arrived to celebrate Mal’s birthday.

There were lots of yard games.

And kids!

And food! Mal asked for wings, mac & cheese, and Caesar salad for his party menu and that’s exactly what he got! (I like that he kept things simple for me!)

And, of course, Mal’s birthday wouldn’t be complete without Funfetti!

These three are my whole world. <3

I love that Quinn eats his cupcakes the same way that I do! 🙂

Once everyone had cupcakes, we played in the yard for awhile more before settling down on the porch. We had a fire and listened to some tunes before saying goodbye to the hometown crew. Mal said he had an awesome time celebrating his birthday, so I’d say his party was a success! 🙂

Question of the Day

Would you rather the frosting or cake or both?

  1. Happy birthday, Mal! I say frosting all the way! I cannot believe Q shared his donut with you. My son ate our joint donut all on his own this weekend and left me high and dry – ha!

  2. Nice choice on the Whole Foods Mac N’ Cheese! (Every time I go there for something I always pick up a small container for my son and I to nibble on!) Definitely love equal parts frosting and cake – maybe a little more frosting than cake. Now I want funfetti! Happy Birthday Mal!

  3. How fun!! Happy birthday, Mal! Crossfit + donuts is the perfect combo. A Dunkin’ just opened up down the street from my gym and I’m not sure if I love it or hate it yet. 😉

I used to follow your blog a few years ago. (Fell out of writing & reading for a while, but it’s good to be back.) I don’t think you were even pregnant with Quinn yet! He’s adorable!

  4. That workout seems brutal! I cringed for you.

I love it both but equal parts. Not too much icing. Cute yard, looks so much fun.

  5. Happy Birthday to Mal!!

I like a 50/50 mix of cake and frosting in each bite, plus a little bit of frosting left on my fingers at the end to lick 🙂

Your family photo at the end of the post is gorgeous. Glad you all had a great day.

  6. This look s like so much fun! And that workout looks like death lol. I’m definitely a frosting girl. And LOVE funfetti. When I was a kid I hated icing and now I could eat a tub of it!!

  7. I’d say both but I will always support the cause and eat someone’s uneaten frosting. Unless it’s intensely colored frosting. Too waxy tasting!

  8. Tina, I’m just wondering what kind of sunglasses you have on in the family pic (which is a great one, btw!) And Happy birthday to Mal!

    1. They’re the Echo Wayfarer from 7 for All Mankind. I actually own 2 pairs because I love them so much! I looked real quick online, but they seem to be sold out everywhere. If you find them, they’ll probably be super cheap! 🙂 http://amzn.to/2qjbdxJ
