Celebrating 8 Great Years + THANK YOU GIVEAWAY!!!!!

Mastermind Weekend 1/16

Hey there!

I'm Tina

I’m the owner of Carrots ‘N’ Cake as well as a Certified Nutrition Coach and Functional Diagnostic Nutrition Practitioner (FDN-P). I use macros and functional nutrition to help women find balance within their diets while achieving their body composition goals.

An in-depth, 4-week reverse dieting course for women who feel like their metabolism has slowed down, think they might have hormonal imbalance and can’t lose weight no matter what they do.

There’s a lot to celebrate today!

It’s National Carrot Cake Day as well as the day that I started Carrot ”˜N’ Cake EIGHT years ago. I guess it was just meant to be!

My life now is so different from the day that I published my very first post…

2/3/2008: I lived with Mal in a small one-bedroom apartment just outside Boston. I worked full-time at the Harvard School of Public Health. I was newly engaged and wanted to shape up for the big day, so I started CNC as a way to document my meals and workouts. (Photo below is from our honeymoon!)

2/3/2016: I live with Mal, Quinn, and Murphy in a house in the suburbs. I’m a stay-at-home and work-at-home mom as I run Carrots ”˜N’ Cake. Everyday, I thank my lucky stars for how wonderful my life has turned out.

Since the beginning of CNC, I got married, adopted Murphy, bought two houses (sold one), quit my full-time job, wrote two books, ran three marathons, met celebrities, attended amazing events, was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis, found CrossFit, traveled a whole heck of a lot, got pregnant, and welcomed a beautiful son into our family. Wow, what a ride. And it’s crazy to think it’s all documented on the Internet!

CNC 8 years

For those of you who have followed CNC since the very beginning, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU for reading all these years. I appreciate you all so much and, as way to thank you, my wonderful readers, here’s an awesome giveaway that EIGHT of you will win. That’s right! Eight years = eight winners.

  1. Hi Tina,

You are an inspiration to me! I have been reading here since the beginning, and I love to see the grace with which you accept the changes life throws at you. I’ve sort of followed in your footsteps (not on purpose!) from marriage to running to CrossFit and now am pregnant with our first son! I actually can’t think of anything I’d change here.

  2. I really love your blog specially the day in the life posts. It’s great motivation to see that you have so many things to do at home yet still manage to make time to work out. I have definitely been motivated by you. I have started to change into healthier eating habits and started work outs too. I would like to see more recipes in your blog and maybe a little back story or info on why you choose certain foods over others. Thanks for all you do!

  3. I love healthy food recommendations and recipes. The only things I skip over are alcohol photos/recommendations, since I do not drink alcohol.

  4. Congrats on the anniversary! I appreciate your blog because it’s real and honest and open – you don’t hide things or keep things rosy just for keeping up appearances. M&M’s AND Crossfit – love that! More things to change? Hmmm…maybe more workout posts! I like the ones you’ve been doing with the great photos and workout breakdowns. Keep it up!

  5. I love how real your blog is. I enjoy learning about new foods and trying your recipes. I really enjoy the “day in a life posts” would also love to learn more about blogging as a career

  6. I love your realistic take on life- it’s a good balance of healthy eating/exercising with some good sweets mixed in! Your family is adorable and you seem like you’re loving life. I just check in on my lunch break at work so nothing I can think of to change.

  7. Tina…I love all your posts and I love when you post what you eat! I would like to see more step by step of you cooking and some of the process of the recipes. I also love your little guy…I have a 5 year old and a 5 month old. I also secretly love the donut pictures…just wish I could find a balance to eat one donut and not crave the whole box! You Rock!

  8. I love seeing Quinn and Murphy in the day in the life posts. I don’t know of any topic I’d like to see less of. I just love your blog!

  9. I really love all your posts about Crossfit & your day to day with your son. Congrats on 8 years… You’re doing a great job!

  10. Love reading your blog! I’d love to see more quick and easy recipes! I don’t think you post any one topic too much so I wouldn’t say less of anything! I like the variety

  11. There are many things I love about CNC, but one of my favorites is reading the day in the life type posts where you share your day-to-day activities and also meals / snacks! :). This may sound weird, but I honestly can’t think of anything I would change – I love reading your blog so much and seriously look forward to it every day!

  12. I love hearing your “day in the life” and I’d like to see more workout tips because it seems like you keep a good, well-rounded routine.

  13. Hi Tina! I love the CNC blog, i look forward to it every night before i go to bed it comes through my work and personal email! I love when you do your favorite purchases , especially the ones from Trader Joes. But i really love when you feature a product i have never tried, because i love trying new things! There really isn’t too much i would change or add because i like when you mix it up with pictures of your family and then also your personal work out choices. I feel like you give a great overall experience on the blog. I also really love that you comment back to people, makes us know your really there 🙂

    thanks for everything you do!

  14. I have been following your blog for just over 2 years now and honestly, I just love seeing the adventures of your daily life with your adorable little family. You come across honest and down to earth. You also show it is possible to balance family, fitness, fun and life in general. I’m so happy to have found your blog and seeing the progression it has taken is amazing. I look forward to reading many, many more years! Happy Anniversary!!!!!!

  15. Tina, your blog is my absolute favorite! I have an 18 month old, so I love your day in the life posts because I can relate so well to them! I can’t think of anything I would ask you to do away with, but I would love to see some “behind the scenes” action on how you run your blog / personal brand. For example, how long does it take to write a post from concept to publish, how did you decide on your blog’s layout and nitty gritty things like that? Thank you so much for sharing your life with us for 8 years! Congrats!

  16. I absolutely love the workouts posted on CNC! They are always fun and challenging. I think my favorite so far is Death By Slamball! I would love to see workouts go up more regularly, which is he only change I would recommend.

  17. I love the day in the life posts as well as grocery shopping/meal planning! Now that you’re focusing more on meatless meals, I’m getting a lot of great ideas! (I’m vegan so it’s more relatable.)

I don’t love the Blue Apron posts. I see them on lots of healthy eating blogs and just don’t find them very useful. Although, when they come with a Quinn or Murphy picture, that helps!

  18. My favorite thing I like about CNC are the day in the life posts. I would love to see more posts about Murphy. He is so cute.

  19. I discovered CNC about 5 years ago through Pinterest. As a mom myself, i LOVE seeing your posts about Quinn and how you balance life.
The only thing I can think of that id change/want more of is recipes!! Id love to get some healthy {more} eating ideas.

  20. Hi Tina! I stumbled upon your blog inadvertently 2 years ago and I love it! I have an 18 month old and see similar changes in him that Quinn is going through. It’s fun and interesting to see how other little ones are growing! Also, your fitness tips, recipes, and life hacks are a life saver for busy families. I often save recipes I’ve found on your blog and pull them out in a pinch to make something at home. I get excited seeing CNC deliver to my inbox weekly! Cheers and thank you!

  21. I love the honest, realistic perspective that you provide on your life and life in general via CNC. I personally love your day in the life and your what im loving lately posts the best! Cheers to 8 years, Tina!

  22. Congrats on 8 years! I have followed your blog over the years and enjoy new recipes (my favorite is your peanut butter granola) and meal planning. I’d like more ‘day In a life posts’

  23. Congrats to 8 great years! I have been reading for probably all 8 years or close to it! 🙂 I have always loved and admired your approach to eating. I love the mix of family and realness of your blog. I don’t know that I would change anything about it!

My family LOVES your Chocolate Pumpkin Loaf… we make it at least 3 times a year 🙂 We actually made some yesterday while we were snowed in here!

Thank you for many great years of reading… and to many more!

  24. Ocho anos?? Wow. ..

Here comes a high low high. ..

High: love your meal and snack ideas

Low: some of us are not proficient in cross fit lingo. The listed workouts would mean more with videos or step by step directions.

High: I love Quinn and Murphy cuteness overloading ♡

    Here’s to 8 more years!

  25. I love that you’re real and relatable. I’ve read your blog from almost the beginning. I’d love following you on your many journeys but my favorite has been motherhood (followed by a close 2nd.. CrossFit). Congrats on 8 years!

  26. I’ve been a loyal follower for many years. I love your blog! I love when you share what you’re loving lately. I would love to see more recipes and more about UC. Before being diagnosed with Crohn’s, I had no idea what IBD was. I feel that there needs to be more awareness of the disease. You have such a gret platform for that. Thanks for all you do!

  27. I love all of your running/crossfit posts and seeing how you balance it all! I also loved reading your pregnancy posts when you were pregnant with Quinn!

  28. I love when you write “day in the life” posts. I have two small kids and I love seeing how other parents of toddlers are able to get anything done. I usually skip work out tutorials but that’s because I’m incredibly lazy and haven’t made myself actually follow any of them yet!

  29. I like how you keep it real. You talk about moderation and know that sometimes you need wine and sometimes you need chocolate and that is okay.

I think I would like to learn/read more about:
    1) what, if any, supplements you take
    2) how you meal plan for the week
    3) books/articles you are reading

  30. Not only are you currently about to embark over a
wonderful journey together with the love of one’s life, but coming
from a vanity perspective, stress causes wrinkles.
The color consultation will assist you to understand
which colors suit you best and you also will still have a very professional touch on the beneficial day.

Beauty tips eye care Use high-quality natural emollients, anti-oxidants, nutritional supplements daily to moisturize, hydrate and nourish your epidermis.

teaspoon of aloe and 1 tablespoon of fresh lemon juice with typical shampoo wash and rinse.

Do Not Forget Sunscreen – When the temperature
is cold and winter has arrived many people don’t think that sunscreen is needed.

  31. I love that you are so down to earth, “normal” and share all the ups and downs and high and lows that we all go through too! In terms of changing.. I don’t think much! I love the day in the life and what I ate in a day type posts, but you do a lot of them. Its also great to have variety posts about one big topic – like you do with UC, but with other topics that other people without Uc can relate to too. We love you!!

  32. Pick one thing? Argh! I think it would have to be a day with Quinn posts, love those! And anything I would change is to see even more recipes, they really look good and always seem to be easy, with not too many ingredients/easy to find ingredients. Thank you!
