Happy FRIDAY, friends!! Is anyone else psyched for a 3-day weekend!?!
So, guess who locked themselves out of their apartment this morning?? šÆ THIS girl! I’m such a space cadet sometimes. š
You see, when I take Murphy for long walks, I just take my house key with me instead of my whole key chain. I use a hair tie to put the key around my wrist, so I can travel light. Well, I forgot to put it back on my key chain, so when I left the house to walk Murphy this morning, I ended up locking myself out. GAH!
Fortunately, Dave and Marie live right down the street, so I knocked on their door and used Dave’s phone to call Mal at school. Luckily, I caught my husband right before homeroom started and he drove home to let me into our apartment. Thankfully, it all worked out! I swear, there’s never a dull moment in my life. (I need to get it together!)
Breakfast
Before locking myself out for over an hour, I started my morning with Overnight Oats in a Jar.
Overnight Oats in a Jar are just regular oats, soaked overnight, in a mostly-empty nut butter jar. The oats absorb the liquid (soy milk, water, etc.) that you add to them, so in the morning, you have a cool, mushy mess of oatmeal to enjoy. The base is typically oats, but you can also use oat bran, spelt flakes, granola, etc. The toppings as endless and you can add themĀ the night before or the next morning– Ā either way works.Ā So, add all of your ingredients to the jar the night before, let it sit in the fridge overnight, grab a spoon, and enjoy it in the morning. Simple as that. No cooking involved!
My mix this morning was 1/4 cup old-fashioned oats, 1/4 cup oat bran, 1 cup soy milk, raisins,Ā chia seeds, and walnuts. Delicious.
I also had a glass of iced coffee with soy milk with breakfast.
It was very refreshing this morning! š
Cats & Dogs
It’s no surprise that I love pugs! Of course, I love Murphy, but I also love other people’s pugs and random pugs that I meet on the street. Ok, so maybe I am a tad obsessed. š
But, did you know that I also have a thing for orange cats? Before Murphy, the love of my life was a big orange cat named Corey. He passed away a few years ago, but he lived a very long and happy kitty life. (He was 17-years-old when he died.)
Like Murphy, Corey was a real character. He had so much personality! He constantly “talked” to us. He was always meowing about something! š
He was a really good cat, and I miss him a whole lot.
Question of the Day
Are you a cat person or a dog person?
P.S. I am hosting a giveaway over on Trading Up Downtown this morning!

I think you totally have it together! No worries, everyone does something like that! š
I’m so glad you shared Corey with us today. Thought I would share Critter with you. I lost him earlier this year…. š

Do you guys call them orange cats? Here in England we say ‘ginger’. That’s my favourite colour of cat, too. We had a beautiful ginger (kind of golden actually) boy but he died last year š He was pretty old though and we’d given him a great final few years-we got him from a rescue. I love dogs and cats equally, and differently. We have a Boxer cross now but I totally intend getting a pug when I’m a little old lady and that’s completely inspired by Murph! Mine’s going to be called Teddy š
What a cute cat! He looks just like my brother cat, Pedro. I don’t think that I could pick between cats and dogs, they both have their good and bad qualities as pets. I love that cats are so self sufficient – but you can’t take your cat on a run!
DEFINITELY a dog person. I don’t hate cats, but dogs just make me melt. Our dog is treated like the youngest child of our family. š
Cats are great. I was never much of a cat person until I rescued my Waffle who is also, incidentally, an orange tabby (I named her Waffle in honor of my healthy lifestyle. I figured it was a good way to redefine one of my favorite junk foods!). I’ve only been blogging for about a week or so, but she’s already appeared in almost every post!
I’ve lived all my life with both so I couldn’t say–I love them both and need to have both around! If I was super busy and always traveling, I’d choose a cat. A dog is a huge investment and you need to be always around. Your pug is the cutest! My grandpa had one too and when we’d ask KingKing to shake hands, he’d put his whole head in our hand!
I love all animals. We have two cats one of which looks just like the orange cat in your blog. Except ours has white paws.
I’m a stuffed animal person. Not to be horrible, but I’ve never attached to animals.
All of freshman year (dorm living), I kept my key on a hair rubber band so I could bracelet-it-up and run

I have an orange cat that looks almost just like Corey and I agree about having so much personality. Thomas is like a child, he’s about 10 so I hope he lives 17yrs.
Hi there, I just stumbled upon your blog and it looks very interesting. Unfortunately I’m neither dog or cat person..not a pet person to be exact. But I do love seeing how other people have their pets.
CAT! But I love dogs too! I travel for long periods of time and having a dog would make that hard!!! My mom has a big orange cat named Bert. Love him! I have a solid black kitty named Taj with green eyes. I found him on the beach in Maui when he was 5 weeks old…..best cat ever š
I was bit by a security dog that got loose when I was about five and was terrified of dogs for the next seventeen years. I then met my future husband who had a German Shepherd and I fell for them both and have been a very proud dog owner for the last twenty years and can’t imagine life without them. š
I am both a cat and dog person :] I have a cat named Luna, she’s very cute but very aloof so I only really see her at night
Total cat person, but you have made me want a pug! I have three cats: Drusilla, Vincent Valentine, and Ophelia Theodora Wakinto Fizz Stubbs.
I am also both a cat and dog person. If you like orange cats you have to check out my blog and see my big boy Claude:)!
I adore cats!!! kitty girl all the way right here š I feel so at ease around cats. but your lil pug is ADORABLE <3
mmm love the look of your iced coffee. I have to say that I love both, but I am a sucker for kitties š Have a nice long weekend! We are coming back from our century ride and vacay in Napa and I’m super bummed to go.
3 day weekends are the best š I like cats, but I’m a dog person!
I always used to consider myself a dog person..until I decided to get a cat in college (because dogs weren’t allowed!) Now I don’t know if I’m necessarily a cat person, but I am OBSESSED with my little kitty, ha!
I’m a cat AND a dog person. We have a GREAT dog (who is part corgi, part pitbull; strong, muscular body + short little legs= VERY CUTE!) Unfortunately my husband is allergic to cats, so we can’t adopt one. But our neighbor has TWO gorgeous orange cats, and I pester-I mean-PET them all the time.
(And I cannot count the number of times I have locked myself out of the house. Including the time my kids [baby and toddler] were inside and I was outside in my robe. I had to call the fire dept. to break in, lol!)
I am definitely a dog person. But funny coincidence… my best friend and old roommate has a big orange cat named Murphy.
I’m a dog AND cat person. We have 5 cats (all black but not on purpose!) that are all adopted. They were either sick strays that we nursed back to health or older cats from the shelter that no one wanted. We also adopted a pitbull that was resuced from the Michael Vick dog fighting ring. She’s absolutely amazing for what she has gone through. I fully believe that animals whether cat, dog, bird or otherwise can definitely enrich your life and teach you a ton š
I’m a cat person, but i love ALL animals š
Your cat Corey looks EXACTLY like my cat, Turner. We recently lost her after 16 years of a long and good kitty life. There must be something about orange cats and a long life expectancy!
I’m cat & dog person. I always grew up with both…which was very interesting!
I did almost the same thing a couple months ago. When I go running I tie my house and building key into my shoelaces. I was in a hurry to get somewhere after my run and forgot to grab the keys off my shoes before I ran out the door. I realized it at tabout the same time the door was clicking shut behind me. Honestly, I’m shocked I’ve only done this once. This is the precise reason my parent’s have a key to my place.
I guess I’m a dog preson. I wasn’t really an animal person of any kind until I got my dog Maxwell. I’m totally in love with him, but I don’t know that it would translate to just any dog. I didn’t grow up with either since my mom is severely allergic.
100% Cat person, until I got a pug! Now 50% pug person and 50% cat person š
Both! Actually I love all animals. I also have an affinity for orange cats! I had the best big orange boy for about 6 years (until he was killed in a raccoon trap set up by our neighbor-worst day of my life! I still think about him every day) I also love any flat faced animal! When my fiance and I get out of our apartment I’m thinking we’ll either get a pug or pekingese!
