Oh my goodness, I had such a fun time yesterday at the Cambridge 5K Yulefest. What an awesome event. I haven’t had that much fun after a road race in quite awhile! I joined a group of women from KFIT for it. We all put on our finest holiday garb, ran 3.1 miles, and then got our party on.
Before the start of the race, we picked up our bibs and sweet winter hats, which we got instead of t-shirts. So cool! There was a little bit of a wait for our bibs, but I think we just got there when everyone else arrived to pick up theirs too.
Drive by fruit-ing! Haha!
The race started in Harvard Square, looped around Cambridge and then finished where we started. The course was flat, flat, flat with only one tiny incline. (I wouldn’t even call it a hill.)
We started pretty far back from the start line, so the first mile of the race was really slow. I ran with my friends Kerrie and Kelly and we wove in and out of runners the best we could. By mile 2, things spread out a little bit and we were able to pick up the pace. I finished in 25:26 (8:11 pace), which I’m pretty happy about. It wasn’t my fastest 5K, but it wasn’t my slowest either. And, honestly, the best part of the race was the after-party. Holy cow, the Cambridge 5K people know how to throw a party!
Listen to this”¦ 4 different breweries, unlimited beer, GOOD food (UNOs pizza, warm pretzels – not your usual bagels and bananas), live music, and a dance party. It was a blast!
Buddy the Elf!
After the race, we headed to Tory Row for food and more drinks. We ended up chatting and laughing for quite awhile, and the afternoon totally flew by!
My favorite workout buddy!
