I'm Tina

I’m the owner of Carrots ‘N’ Cake as well as a Certified Nutrition Coach and Functional Diagnostic Nutrition Practitioner (FDN-P). I use macros and functional nutrition to help women find balance within their diets while achieving their body composition goals.

Hi, guys! Happy Hump Day! Is it H-O-T where you are today? It’s a scorcher here in Boston. We’re at 92 degrees! Yowsahs.

Super hot weather always makes me want to boozeface… like on a boat out in the middle of the ocean. Anyone else? Ok, moving on…


I woke up craving nut butter (like I almost always do), so I added almond butter, sliced banana, and chia seeds to a whole wheat wrap for breakfast this morning. Quick, simple, delicious.

After breakfast, I headed to CrossFit for the 9:00 AM class, which was coached by my wonderful and amazing husband. Mal has taught part of classes, but never a full class by himself, so today was a special day for him””and I promise I didn’t heckle him at all.

Push Press: 15 minutes to establish 1 rep max. Rest 2 minutes between sets.
Beginners perform 5×5 adding weight each set. Rest 2 minutes between sets.


For time:
Handstand Push-ups
Hang Power Snatch
100 Meter Farmers Walk

Rx: (115, 85)
L2: (95, 65)
L1: (75, 45)
Beg: (55, 25)

Mal did a great job explaining the WOD and demonstrating the various progressions for the Hang Power Snatches. He has plenty of years of teaching under his belt, so I’m actually not surprised that he rocked it this morning. Mal didn’t seem nervous at all! Honestly, he was made to teach to CrossFit.

Besides Mal teaching his first class, the best thing about today’s workout for me was increasing my Push Press by 35 pounds! Woohoo!

Back in March, my previous 1 rep max was 65 pounds. Three months later, it’s 100 pounds””and I was so darn close to 105! Next time for sure!

On my way home from CrossFit, I stopped by Dunkin’ Donuts to cash in my birthday beverage card, which was good for a free medium drink of my choice.

After I snapped the photo above, I noticed how chalky my hands were from practicing Kipping Pull-Ups after class. (I’m getting so close!!!)

I have to admit, I’m kind of ridiculous with the chalk at CrossFit. My hands are always sweaty during workouts, so I tend to use a lot of chalk, which means I end up getting it all over the place, including my clothes, the box (floors, equipment, etc.), my water bottle, and even my car. I seriously make a mess with the stuff, so Mal has started calling me “Chalky” to make fun of my little chalk habit.

I ordered my iced coffee at Dunkin Donuts black with a little bit of coconut syrup. It’s always super sweet when get the standard serving, so “a little bit” seems to be just the right amount of sweetness. I added coconut milk to my iced coffee when I got home.

A little while later, it was time for lunch. On the menu: “garbage salads.” I pulled out all sorts of veggies and leftovers from the refrigerator and just started adding them to a bowl. I {heart} garbage salads in a major way.

In the mix: salad greens, tomatoes, carrots, pickles, scrambled eggs with cheese (highly recommended in a salad), cottage cheese, sweet potato wedges, balsamic vinegar, and truffle oil.

After I finished eating my salad, I finished off a can of pineapple and then ate an Adora disk dipped into almond butter.

I think Monica said it best when she described the experience as the “time of her life.” I totally agree. Reach the Beach with Team Off Balance was truly one of the best experiences of my life. THANK YOU, New Balance and Reach the Beach!
