Bye Bye Boots

Mastermind Weekend 1/16

Hey there!

I'm Tina

I’m the owner of Carrots ‘N’ Cake as well as a Certified Nutrition Coach and Functional Diagnostic Nutrition Practitioner (FDN-P). I use macros and functional nutrition to help women find balance within their diets while achieving their body composition goals.

An in-depth, 4-week reverse dieting course for women who feel like their metabolism has slowed down, think they might have hormonal imbalance and can’t lose weight no matter what they do.

Good morning! 😎

I have major anxiety about today because I’m visiting the dentist again. In my Confessions of a Sugarholic post, I mentioned the four cavities that I need to have filled. (Too much sugar + bad genetics = lots of cavities.) Today’s appointment is for #3 of the four cavities.

If having a cavity filled isn’t stressful enough, the practice that I go to kind of sucks. (I’m planning to transfer my records to a new dentist after this appointment.) The dentist who works on my teeth is really sweet, but she’s young and seems like she has no idea what she’s doing. I’m always nervous about what she’s going to do to me! 😯

The worst part about the practice, however, is the receptionist. She is such a witch! She’s totally unfriendly and unhelpful. I assume she just hates her job, but it’s such a hassle to deal with her.

Ok, I’m done complaining. I’m just not looking forward to this afternoon.

On a positive note”¦ yummy breakfast this morning!

I have a full day today, so I woke up bright and early with my husband to make us a batch of butterscotch oatmeal. I told Mal about yesterday’s butterscotch oats and he really wanted to try them!

In the mix:

Makes 2 servings

I also added a big scoop of Teddie peanut butter to my oats. (Mal doesn’t like nut butter in his oatmeal. What a weirdo! 😉 )

I also drank a glass of iced coffee with breakfast.

Remember how I mentioned going to yoga yesterday afternoon? Well, yoga class was replaced with shopping for new boots. I really needed a new pair.

The pair that I had been wearing were dangerous. The mental rod in the heels was completely exposed! They sounded awful on concrete– you could hear me coming from a mile away!

Two winters ago, I spent a fortune getting the heel repaired, but, clearly, it was a waste of money because it only lasted one winter. I should have just purchased a new pair all together!

I guess you could say that I had trouble parting with this particular pair of boots””sort of like my beloved Seven jeans. I had grown pretty attached to them. They were so comfortable, and I had a lot of good times in them.

Long story short, I was sort of forced into buying a new pair. I wasn’t allowed to wear the old boots in the house because the exposed metal would wreck our hardwood floors. So, with a little prodding from my husband, I finally bought a new pair.

Check out these babies! Fun, right? And they fit over my huge-ass calves! I usually can’t find tall boots that fit. I’m in love.

Question of the Day

Is there a piece of clothing (or accessory) that you just can’t part with?

P.S. I’m hosting a fitness-inspired giveaway on Trading Up Downtown this morning!

  1. Oh I love the boots! I’m just getting into buying clothes to look more put togther but I have had my little diamond stud earrings for 8+ years and wear them everyday.

  2. I call it my Mary Poppins purse: it’s a decent size of a bag, that’s more of a black hole, that I SWEAR have pulled out any item imaginable from it! I’ve been using it since October 2009 and can’t swap it out!

  3. Tina, get a new dentist asap! There are soooo many dentists out there you do not have to put up with yours. I can see why you don’t like going to the dentist (well, I don’t like going either but I would really hate going to yours.)

    Love your boots!

  4. I definitely cannot live without a pair of diamond (or faux diamond ;)) stud earrings at all times! I love the classic look of women like Audrey Hepburn & think diamond studs are the perfect accessory to any outfit. I even wear them to the gym!

  5. The dentist is the worst! I am the same way (bad genetics + too much sugar) and almost always leave the appointment on the brink of tears because of yet another cavity. I’m way overdue for a cleaning but I can’t bring myself to go.

    Good luck!

  6. Cute boots! I always feel guilty about buying boots – they are a big purchase! I can’t seem to part with any t-shirts. I always say that I’ll wear them to exercise but I just rotate the same few and end up with a t-shirt drawer busting at the seams.

  7. YUM– OK it’s official, I need to go get some butterscotch extract 🙂 I have the same problem with finding tall boots– what is the brand of the ones you just bought if you don’t mind me asking?

  8. I have plenty of jeans that I refuse to give up, despite the holes in inappropriate places. I tend to hang on to clothes longer than I should and not buy new clothes regularly, so I have lots of old and comfortable items in my closet!

  9. Those are the cutest boots! I’ve always wanted a over the calve pair but I have huge calves and have never been able to find any that fit 🙁 Would you mind sharing the brand/style? I love them!

  10. Cute boots!! I have the biggest problem trying to find boots. I love the style of a lot of the taller ones, but they never fit over my damn calves!! Maybe I’ll try that brand!

  11. I used to have a pair of boots with the same problem! Still haven’t brought myself to throw them out yet, but I did buy a pair that I now love and wear all the time so I think it’s safe to say that I’ve officially broken up with Old Boots now. 🙂 I love yours!

  12. I love the new boots!! Walking around Boston on the cobblestones and in the slush is a recipe for destroyed boots. The exposed metal rod has happened to me a few times!

  13. Tina, I really dislike my dentist too! We need to walk out of their offices and never walk in again! I always feel bad for receptionists who don’t like their jobs — I imagine that it’s a difficult one — but honestly, I’ve worked for a long time in customer service, and I really feel that if you don’t like people, you probably should leave the field, you know? Why be a receptionist when you can’t stand dealing with people all day long?

  14. Very cute new boots! I would keep an eye out for a new shoe repair place and bring the new ones in much sooner when the heel tip wears down. If you just have the heel tips replaced and the heel itself isn’t damaged, it should be less expensive to fix. I walk a ton in my boots and get them repaired every year or two because it ends up being much cheaper than buying new ones.

  15. I have a hard time finding boots that are narrow enough and that don’t have a huge gap around my knees if I am wearing a dress, so I buy my boots in Europe. I hold on to them forever once I do find “the ones”. My current pair is starting to show its age even after a cobbler visit : ( Yours are very cute!

  16. I cant live without my favorite pair of jeans. Its SO hard for me to find the perfect jeans, so when I do… I wear them until the have holes and I absolutely NEED to buy a new pair.

  17. That’s terrible about your dentist! I’d be so nervous if I felt like she didn’t really know what she was doing. When I’m home sometimes I make my Dad and/or brother oatmeal and they always pick around the nut butter too. So strange!

My one piece of clothing is probably some Rich & Skinny jeans (weird name) that I’ve had for 3ish years. They’re super thin and soft so they keep getting holes!

  18. The same exact thing happened to my favorite pair of boots too! I keep wearing them though because they are too cute to get rid of plus I don’t think they make them anymore! It’s embarrassing because I’m sure people can hear me walking from a mile away! Haha!

  19. Cute boots!

I will never part with the shirt I wore on my first date with my fiancee. I’ll probably never wear it again (it’s pretty ugly and super short – the early 2000’s were filled with way too many low-rise jeans and short shirts!). However, it just has too many good memories to part with!

  20. at least you GO to the dentist…terrible patient here!

i’m really bad about purging clothes. it took me, like, 2 years to get rid of some of my fave jeans after dropping ~20-30lbs (over some years). the worst, however, is tshirts. i hold on to them for sentiment, feel, design…any reason. they are hole-y, stained, new, old. love me some tees.

  21. A new heel should not cost that much! It usually only costs like $10 to have the caps put back no the bottom! I do it at least once a winter on all my pairs (stupid NYC streets ruin them pretty quickly).

  22. I always find great boots at DSW! I have two pairs if boots that need to be reheeled. I go to a guy in coolidge corner who is amazing! Let me know if you want his name. I (also) have a great dentist in Coolidge corner who has a great reputation – I’ve been going to him for years and so have other people I know.

The one item I can’t part with? I’m ashamed but…this ragged black belt I’ve had for years! I hate wearing belts but this one has thin flexible material. It also has holes that I had to punch through it as I lost weight. I bought a nicer belt but I never wear it (lol). I also lost it in airport security over the holiday break. Oh well! 🙂

  23. Cute boots! My husband has to beg me NOT to buy new boots. Quite a different scenario. As for something old I just can’t part with, that would have to be my rattiest Longchamp tote bag. I could replace it, but it was the first bag I bought with my first post-grad school paycheck.

  24. I love the new boots! They are so cute 🙂 I bought a pair a few months ago and the heel is wayyyy too high, they’re definitely reserved for “special nights out.” I am now going to make an oatmeal breakfast with nut butter because your oats have me sold 🙂

  25. CUTE BOOTS! Awesome purchase- they look totally worth it! I am the same as you…I cannot part with any of my shoes…sneakers, boots, heels…anything 🙁

  26. Tina – Dr. Geoffrey Davis in Copley Square has THE BEST practice ever. I actually look forward to going there to chat with the funny receptionist and the hygienist. The hygienist remembers everything about you and your family that you chat about and will make you feel so special. A good dentist will make you feel so much better. Call Dr. Davis! (and they are paperless – can it get any better?!)

(is it strange that my first and only post on your site is a dental recommendation?! 🙂

    good luck!

  27. I should probably have a million cavities by now but I’ve been lucky enough to not have any – genetics have to play a big role!
I cannot part with this black bag I’ve had throughout college – it’s carried my computer and so many books, but I think it’s on it’s last leg 🙁
Good luck at the dentist today!
