Mastermind Weekend 1/16

Hey there!

I'm Tina

An in-depth, 4-week reverse dieting course for women who feel like their metabolism has slowed down, think they might have hormonal imbalance and can’t lose weight no matter what they do.

When I arrived in the North End to meet Giada, things were pretty quiet. The vendors were set up for St. Anthony’s Feast, but hardly anyone was around.

Maybe the impending hurricane scared people off?

The crowds weren’t the only ones scared off by the hurricane– Giada was too.

On her way to the North End, Giada heard that the bridges in New York City were closing this afternoon because of Hurricane Irene, so she canceled her appearance and headed straight home.

I’m bummed that I didn’t meet Giada today, but the folks from Bella Sera said they’d arrange a phone call so I can still ask her my questions. Of course, a phone call isn’t meeting Giada in person, but I’ll take it. I mean, a hurricane is a hurricane. I don’t blame Giada at all for wanting to be home with her family. I would have done the exact same thing. Plus, chatting with Giada on the phone is still a really neat opportunity!

My trip to the North End wasn’t a total waste though because I hit up Haymarket on my way home. Haymarket is a huge fruit and vegetable market in downtown Boston.

The prices at Haymarket are insanely cheap. When I lived closer to the city, my roommate and I would go almost every Saturday morning. We’d each chip-in $5 and buy a ton of produce to share for the week. It was awesome.

Having all of that fresh produce in the house definitely encouraged me to eat better.

Check out what I got for just $10:

  • 2 pounds of sweet potatoes – $2.00
  • 1 pint of blueberries – $1.50
  • 8 plums – $1.00
  • 1 pound of cherries – $1.00
  • 1 head of iceberg lettuce – $0.50
  • 2 blocks of cheese – $4

Pretty sweet, right? I just wish Haymarket was closer so I could go every week. What a deal!

It just started raining here. Here comes Irene!

  1. I am in shock at how cheap some of those items are…are you kidding me?!?! I saw a pint of blueberries at my Farmer’s Market today and they were $4!!!! Just as I thought my local Farmer’s Market was good, it gets squashed compared to those prices!!!

Can’t wait to hear about your phone call with Giada…she’s so gosh darn cute!

  2. Those prices are crazy!! Why do you think they are so cheap? I live in Philly and we have a few farmers’ markets that I visit every weekend, and the prices are over DOUBLE that! I wonder why?

  3. That’s too bad that you weren’t able to meet Giada today but that’s great that you still may be able to do a phone interview!! Maybe she’ll be up in Boston again soon.

That market is amazing! I can’t believe you got that much for $10! Awesome!

  4. We have a produce outlet by my house with similar prices. Love it!
Sorry you didn’t get to meet Giada!! But Irene isn’t being very nice. Raining pretty hard here and winds are picking up! Here we go! (still power though, hehe)

  5. Wow, those prices are ultra cheap! Haven’t seen that in about 20 years? haha

Sorry that you didn’t get to meet Giada, though I’m sure you will one day! Plus your phone call. 🙂 I would steer clear of the area, too. We’re 1.5 hours from NYC northwest and hoping for the best. Being in the mountains, we likely won’t get it as bad as the city and New England. Be safe!

  6. Aww so sad that you didn’t get to meet Giada. I love her! Maybe, when you do have your phone call with her, you could record it and play it for us here on CNC?? That would be awesome.

  7. Bummer!!! Well the produce is honestly making a little more jealous than the phone call/meeting… That is cheap eats! What are your thoughts on Organic vs. not? I try to follow the Dirty Dozen – and buy them Organic, the other things only if there is a sale… but lately I have paid way too much for produce.

  8. That stinks about not meeting her. This storm is crazy!

I went to Haymarket for the first time last week and I loved it! I’ll definitely have to go again. 🙂

    Stay safe Tina!!

  9. Oh, what a bummer! I’m sorry that happened. But the produce looks good. I think my local farmers markets are somehow *more* expensive than the grocery store produce. Boo.

Boston looks like a fabulous place to live. It’s so time for me to move. It’s a challenge to be a blogger from a town whose only claim to fame is oil rigs and tumble weeds! Architecture, and markets, and culture, oh my. You’ve got it goin’ on 😉

  10. Farmer’s markets are the best!
Sorry your in person interview fell thru, at least you’ll get to speak with her over the phone. Can’t wait to hear how it goes.
    Take cover, stay indoors!

  11. That’s a shame you couldnt meet GIada! I hate when plans fall through like that, but yay for still being able to still chat on the food…and stock up on produce 😀

  12. Hi Tina,

I read your blog everyday and love it… I wondering, do you use a camera to take the pictures or your iPhone? I’ve read some of the comments that you edit your photos, is that true? if yes, what program do you use?

Thank you for taking the time everyday to keep up motivated.
