First things first: Brooks Lobster Launch 2! OMG, THESE SHOES! There are LOBSTERS on them. Lobsters! BOSTON lobsters! I am so in love.

IMG_0785 (800x800)Recreated to represent the spirit of the famed race, the Lobster Launch 2 features patterned imagery of the lobster and a blue ocean midsole as an ode to the Atlantic Ocean that banks the city. Additional details include rope laces reminiscent of the fisherman’s rope and wood lace aglets that represent the fishing traps used to catch lobsters. The shoe comes packaged in a white, branded fishing net to further bring to life an industry that is near and dear to the hearts of Bostonians.

I’m such a dork, but I almost cried when I opened the box. It was such a nice gesture from Brooks, especially with me running the marathon (in just 19 days!) and my love for all things Boston. Marathon Monday is my favorite day of the year, and Boston is the race I’ve always wanted to run, so these sneakers made me so incredibly happy and excited for race day.

FYI: The Brooks Lobster Launch 2 is available April 3rd in specialty running stores around Boston, at the company’s expo booth over marathon weekend, as well as brooksrunning.com.

Brooks also sent along a foam lobster claw (Mal said he’s bringing it to the marathon), so I had a little fun playing with it!

My colorful striped top is also from Brooks!

Last night, I did my last marathon training run (Yassos x 8) on the treadmill at KFIT. It was actually bittersweet. I was surprised that I felt a little sad when it was over. I’ve never hated the treadmill, but I’ve grown to really like it during my training. Over the past few months, there were so many hours spent on the treadmill at KFIT– during classes, which always included smiles and waves from members, and alone in the early hours of the morning with just my iPhone and thoughts. It’s crazy how quickly my training has gone by. I’ve really started to love it, and I’m going to miss it once it’s over.

After my run (I covered just over 10 miles), I came home, helped Mal put Quinn to bed, and then cooked a quick dinner while I hopped in the shower. On the menu: Chicken burgers with steamed kale and broccoli with buffalo sauce and oven fries with ketchup.

After that, I relaxed on the couch with compression socks, cookies, and a glass of wine. (I swear, wine tastes better after a tough workout, right?)

I’ve received quite a few questions about running on the treadmill for an extended period of time and how not to get bored. Here’s a post that I wrote awhile back: How to Run on a Treadmill Without Dying of Boredom. And here are a few more ideas + some treadmill workouts to keep you entertained! (Changing up speeds and inclines is my go-to method for keeping my sanity on a treadmill.)

  • Podcasts! Here are some of my favorites, and I highly recommend Serial. It got me through a lot of treadmill runs!
  • Watch a movie or TV series (on your tablet or phone if your treadmill doesn’t have a TV). I watched a movie during a 2-hour long run, and it actually went by pretty fast.
  • Challenge yourself. I always record my running workouts, so I typically try to go faster, longer, or add in more inclines than my previous workout.

And here are even more treadmill workouts!
