Some random tidbits for the morning:

So how was your weekend? Mine was relatively low-key. We got a pretty big snow storm late in the week, so I wasn’t super motivated to leave my house, except for a couple of special occasions. (Winter, snow, and I generally don’t get along.)

On Saturday morning, I managed to rally, but barely. ONE degree?! Really?

But CrossFitters are crazy people, so off to 781 I went!

I loved this WOD! Well, actually “loved” is a more accurate description. This one hurt, but in a “good” way and once it was all over, of course.

21-5-9 of these three movements isn’t so bad, but when you do them for 20 minutes straight, they become quite challenging. I did the workout as prescribed, and I was actually a little worried about the 75-pound power cleans, but they ended up being the “easiest” part of the workout. The over-the-bar-Burpees where brutal. I felt like I spent half the workout just doing those! And now that I have a baby belly forming, I do them a lot slower and lower myself down to the ground, so my arms were especially smoked by the end of this workout. Even still, great WOD. I finished 5 + 9 Rx.

After CrossFit, I had a serious craving for pancakes, so I whipped up a big batch with (defrosted frozen) blueberries and, oh my goodness, they were delicious. I wish I had snapped a photo before I demolished them! Here’s the recipe in case you’re interested!

Gluten-Free Blueberry Pancakes


  • 1 cup almond meal/flour
  • 1 cup gluten-free rolled oats
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1.5 cup almond milk
  • 1/4 cup coconut oil, melted
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp sea salt
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 cup blueberries + more for topping


  1. Combine all ingredients, except for blueberries, in a large bowl and mix well. Once batter is smooth, stir in blueberries.
  2. On a prepared griddle on medium/high heat, use a 1/4 cup to portion batter and pour onto griddle. Cook each side for 2-3 minutes until lightly browned.
  3. Top with maple syrup and fresh blueberries.

Serves 2-3 (1 Mal serving + 2 Tina servings)

I spent the rest of Saturday afternoon cleaning the house while Mal ran errands. When it’s cold and snowy outside, I’d much rather stay home than venture out, so I offered to clean the house from top to bottom while Mal went grocery shopping and picked up a few things at Lowe’s. (The house projects never end!)

On Saturday night, we had a few friends over for football, snacks, and drinks. I honestly can’t remember what game we watched, but it was a lot of fun hanging out with everyone and chowing down on delicious appetizers.

Murphy had an especially nice time and passed out even before the game ended.

Yesterday, I went to my friend Beth’s baby shower, which was so nice. It was Winnie the Pooh-themed and absolutely adorable!


Question of the Day

What’s your relationship with snow and winter? Love it? Hate it? Love it through December and then hate it until early April?



  1. I love snow! I love the cold weather! But the only thing I hate is commuting to work during this time. Waiting for the bus in blizzards and then crawling along the snow covered highway to the city isn’t fun. And by the time you get on the bus you’re overheated and have to take off as many layers as possible….lol!

    I realized I need warmer boots but I’ll still take this weather over hot humid august temps on the east coast for sure.

  2. I also have a love affair with peanut M&Ms. I rationalize that they’re better for you than regular ones because they have protein to keep you full longer! I think I could rationalize anything…

    Being a Massachusetts gal myself, I generally enjoy the winter. I don’t mind the snow; in fact, I love how pretty it makes everything look. Is there anything nicer than sitting on the couch drinking coffee on a weekend morning as you look outside to see the snow slowly falling? It’s so calming!

    What I do mind is people not knowing how to drive in the snow when it gets in the single digits as it did this weekend. -20 with the windchill just takes your breath away, and not in a romantic way.

  3. Ugh! I HATE winter! I literally just landed from an Xmas vacation in warm Australia and was met with tons of snow and cold weather. I wish I could live in warm weather all year round! I would be so much more motivated!

  4. I live in New Jersey and our snowfall was just as bad. I HATE the snow/winter and always wish i was lucky enough to just up and move to florida!
    And that is the cutest baby shower idea ever!

  5. Love, love, LOVE snow! Especially snow days when everything closes down…snow days make me oh-so-productive at home and also slow me down. My favorite months of the year are late September through May and unless I’m basking on a beach, with nothing but ocean/some mass of water near me, I don’t want to be outside on hot, humid days. I’ve been told that I’m weird for not minding when it gets dark earlier. Something about being cozy and hibernating is very comforting.

  6. I am from Maine and grew up in the snow. I always loved it – sledding, skiing and snowmobiling as a kid was great. Now I live in France. No snow in Paris… but I still love seeing all the pictures, even though I know how tough it is on people in New England ! Miss the snow, but DO NOT miss the cold….

  7. I’m in northern MN and it’s ridiculously cold. I wonder sometimes why I live here! I am OVER winter!

  8. I am loving this cold weather! It’s not exactly the best when I want to go on a run (I despise the treadmill) but it is much better than sweating out a gallon of water. I would love to live in Boston after I am out of college!

  9. Hate winter and snow! But I will probably never leave Iowa so I deal with it. I’m especially ready for it to be over already this year for some reason. Not sure why.

  10. loved it as a kid, as an adult it depends on my mood. I do find snow storms to be fun at times, as long as the power remains on lol. I find it so funny how us New Englanders still crave an icy cold coffee in below zero weather, I think its just that it taste so good!

  11. You would think living in MN would make me love winter, but I don’t haha I want it to be over and it’s only January!

  12. I used to love a good snow storm, until I got a job that never closes and I’m expected in no matter what the weather is like.
    That is a lot of snow. If that were in Virginia it would probably shut everything down, and everyone would be sitting in their houses not wanting to leave.
