Remember when I met Chrissy and took her Secret Physique Barre class a couple of months ago? Well, we made plans to meet up for dinner and beers last night. I originally suggested the Union Brewhouse because of their amazing selection, but then Chrissy suggested Hingham Beer Works since we could sit outside. This was a MUCH better idea. The weather was absolutely gorgeous last nightāāit was basically a picture-perfect summer eveningāāso I’m glad we were able to enjoy it. Oh, yea, and drink good beers together!
Mal and I arrived at Hingham Beer Works a little early, so we put our name in for an outdoor table (there was a little bit of a wait) and then grabbed a beer at the bar.
I went with the Bunker Hill Bluebeery Ale, which is golden ale made and garnished with fresh blueberries. (Yep, I’m totally obsessed with fruity beers this summer.)
A little while later, we were called for our table, which was totally worth the wait. Check out the view!
I {heart} summer. And beer.
Chrissy and her husband Matt arrived just a short while later, and Mal and I instantly hit it off with them. We had a ton in common (beer, breakfast, travel) and chatted non-stop the entire night. Our poor server had to come back to our table three different times to get our dinner order because we were talking so much!
For my dinner, I ordered the Brattle Street Chicken sandwich, which came with a grilled chicken breast, spinach, Swiss cheese, and mushrooms. I also ordered sweet potato fries on the side. The sandwich was awesomeāāthe chicken was cooked perfectly and there was a ton of cheese on it, so I was very happy. And, the sweet potato fries⦠oh my goodness, they were amazingly delicious when dipped into the Sunshine Aioli. I have no clue what exactly was in the Sunshine Aioli, but I ended up dipping just about everything on my plate into itāāeven the pickles.
During dinner, Chrissy and I shared a Bunker Hill Bluebeery Ale. Love those blueberries!
After dinner, Mal and I chatted with Chrissy and Matt for quite awhile. (I’m telling ya, we had a lot in common!) We eventually said good night and headed toward our respective cars. Within five feet of our car, Mal stopped dead in his tracks and said: āWe’re so close to Red Mango. Let’s go,āĀ and then immediately started speed-walking there. He’s obsessed.
Mal and I ended the evening with a bowl of froyo with all sorts of goodies on top. My husband has the best ideas!

Sweet potato fries + aioli = amazing. What a fun night!
I LOVE summer evenings like that! Sitting outside and enjoying a quality beer is honestly just the best. Looks like an awesome evening. š
That sandwich and sweet potato fries look AMAZING! Thanks for the DogVacay website, just in case I ever need it!
LOVE Red Mango! I have to go into Omaha to get it, though, which is a pain, but I’ll survive. I have a frequent buyer’s card (though, I’m not that frequent), but I just got $5 on it. Score! So excited to use it sometime.
Ah I love summer! Love your pictures. And I agree with Mal, froyo is an excellent idea! We just started getting those kinds of places near me. They were everywhere when I visited a friend in Texas!

As soon as I saw the beer menu my eyes went straight to the blueberry ale. It looks so good and I am assuming since you split a 2nd one, it must have been quite tasty!
The chicken sandwich…oh man, I just had breakfast but now all I can think about is lunch. Now if only my lunch were to include that sandwich……
Looks like an amazing evening and that beer sounds delicious!
Hmm, mental shut downs on a run….I think my best strategy for defeating those is reminding myself that I’ll be really glad/proud if I finish (and really disappointed/angry if I don’t)! That, and telling myself “ok just a little further”–each time you say “a little further”, it adds up eventually to just finishing the run š
And I know how Mal feels about Red Mango! I was in Manhattan the other day with my aunt and was craving frozen yogurt. We tried finding one near us, and the closest that came up on my phone was a Red Mango in Rockefeller Plaza. When we got there, it was nowhere in sight, so we desperately asked a police man who informed us that it’s actually in the upstairs level of the NBC store! Unfortunately it was closed by the time we got there, and we had to run to a Broadway show after that, so now fro-yo for me :\
Wow, those sweet potato fries look AMAZINNGGGG
that looks like a swanky little place! love the outdoor seating. i only wish our weather here in the south were a little cooler so we could dine outdoors more often!
I’m not even a beer lover and that beer looks gooood. That view looks perfect. What does the patio look over.. a marina?
I just heard about that DogVacay website too. I forget where I first heard about it but I remember the person having rave reviews about it.

Yep! It’s the Hingham Shipyard. It’s gorgeous!
@Tina: Thanks Tina!
We have a red mango here.. I’ve been meaning to try it out!
Looks like such a great night! So fun! I used to love red mango when I was in New York! It was literally one block from my apartment! Kind of dangerous!
Wow, the blueberry beer looks delicious! I’ve been on a ginger beer kick this summer, it adds just enough kick and removes some of the bitterness for a great summer beer.
Has Mal ever been to Yogurtland? He really really needs to come to CA and we’ll go there!
He would die. We need to plan a trip out there SOON!
@RunEatRepeat: OMG I HEART YOGURT LAND or any yogurt place where you can put the toppings on yourself!
OMG Tina… I’m so jealous! I live a few blocks from the Beer Works at Fenway and I always (!) look for the Victory White to be available. I have been twice this month and both times, no luck!!! Maybe I’ll be making a trip to Hingham š
I almost tried that one! Next time for sure! Hingham Beer Works is definitely worth the trip– it’s so pretty there!
This post was made for me š My favorite blogger on the run is Sun from Eat. Host. Run. Style.
As you say … HOLY YUM!!! Those sweet potatoe fries look incredible. & I agree about fruity beers in summer. And lastly– I wish I had a place like that here!!
Fav bloggers on the run … Well YOU, duh! And I love Theo & Ali!!
I just tell myself just push it till you pass that mail box, then once i pass it i set another goal. I usually works every time.
I have been into fruity beers this summer too! Love Abita Strawberry and Hell or High Watermelon Wheat!
As far as what I tell myself when I feel like my tank is empty during a run (actually happened this morning), I just keep telling myself not to be a wuss. Haha it works!
Congrats the Women’s Running story! That is awesome! I think I looove Sara from Skinny Runner…hers is the first running blog I followed!
My method for those mental blocks… I try not to look down at my Garmin and just go until she beeps at me. Somehow that always clears my mind from thinking about the run and next thing I know I’m thinking about shoes… or food… or a funny story… then, bam! It’s over. It also helps to remember, in the end, I’ll be so glad I did it.
Looks like a yummy dinner… LOVE Red Mango! Always a good decision, Mal! And, I have to agree with Women’s Running magazine – YOU are my favorite blogger on the run! š
If you haven’t tried their watermelon beer, definitely give it a shot next time…it is ah-maze-ing! š
I didn’t know you played soccer at the collegiate level (according to the blogger on the run page). What position did you play?
That’s actually a mistake– the editors are fixing it now. But, when I played, I played center mid-field. Lots of running! š
Hi Tina,
I was just wondering – do you special order at all when you go out to eat? Or do you have any tips or strategies you could share when you eat at a restaurant?
Thanks!
Rebecca
No, hardly ever. If anything, I’ll ask for dressing on the side if I order a salad, but other than that I don’t make too many changes to my orders. Dining out is a treat for me, so I tend not to stress about it much. I just watch my portions and try to order something relatively healthy! š
@Tina: Thanks Tina! š
A dinner involving good conversation and sweet potato fries, followed by froyo? Kind of a perfect night you got there š
That’s some beer menu! I love fruity beers in the summer, too. They’re just so refreshing when it’s hot out. Sounds like you had a great time!
Can I be my favorite blogger on the run? Haha, no I would say Hungry Runner Girl! I LOVE Janae!
Me too! š
Love the salted caramel at Red Mango!
That sounds delicious! Next time! š
Mine are Megan @ runlikeagrl.com, Theodora @ Losingweightinthecity.com, Sarah @ Skinnyrunner.com, OUAL.com, sweatonceaday.com, aliontherun.com & of course, you!
I didn’t know you played collegiate soccer! Where did you play? I played at Stanford… wonder if we competed against each other?
That’s actually a typo. The editors are fixing it now. I only played intramural soccer at college.
Just thinking about something that gets some emotion pumping into me that I can use to fuel my run!
Alaina and I went here back in May when I was last in Boston. I had almost the exact same meal and we definitely ended it with Red Mango! Such a good experience.
I LOVE summer dinners like that. And I really love it when my husband and a girlfriends husband meet for the first time, and become fast friends, like Mal and Matt sounds like they did. Blueberry ale?? Yes please! Have a great Thursday Tina.
For me it’s all about the music. I always have mixes from Rock My Run on my iPod!
psst sarah and skinner runner are different (which obviously you know haha but just messed up the links) – but theyre both two of my favorite bloggers on the run too! plus runeatrepeat and peanut butter fingers!
That beer looks great-the fresh blueberry garnish is AWESOME! I’m also all about the fruity beers during the summer-so refreshing! Looks like a great time!
That dinner looks phenomenal!
I’ve been loving fruity beers this summer too! Your dinner looks yummy too
thanks for the shoutout, homie.
xoxox,
beyonce
LOL!
Janae at Hungry Runner Girl is the sweetest most adorable runner blogger š
i tell myself that i’m a fighter and i’m stronger than this workout/run/treadmill whatever. usually does the trick
Oh, I’m all about the Dog Vacay website…now if only airlines allowed my 80 lbs Cooper to sit next to me….
Congrats on the feature!
I power through a hard run by saying if I can give birth to twins I can do anything!!!
I tell myself I never regret a tough run, only regret quitting!
GREAT POST:)
Your blog is so wonderful and Im following…I hope you follow me also:)
If you want some cute swedish decor inspiration…check out my new post:)
Have a great week.
LOVE Maria at inredningsvis.se

I am obsessed with that dogvacay site you posted! Thank you for sharing, I can now find comfort that my fur baby is being taken care of. I usually take them to a pet hotel in my area, but it is SO pricey.
Hingham Beer Works looks amazing. Any type of fruity beer available and I am trying it. I have never been a beer drinker, and within the last year, my good friend has me hooked. He loves dark and rich beers, and I love fruity and slightly sweet beers. Yum!
Was there ever a Beer Works in the Faneuil Hall area? I’ve been to Boston but once & most definitely ate dinner at a Beer Works. Coincidentally, I also had the Bluebeery Ale and loved it. Especially beacause of the little dance the blueberries do from the carbonation. But since I continued to drink & drink & drink (it was my birthday…and I was on vacation) I don’t remember exactly where we were. I do, however, remember hitting up Zuma’s later for a margarita & I’m fairly certain that was in the Faneuil Hall/Quincy Market area.
There’s one on Canal Street that isn’t too far from there!
@Tina: That must have been the one!
I remind myself that my condition is temporary… Them I start bargaining with myself: you can walk when you get to the corner (then I get there and find a new location to aim for)
to get through a tough spot on a run, i usually switch the song. my music usually dictates my pace! (for better or for worse…)
