Bathroom Remodel

Mastermind Weekend 1/16

Hey there!

I'm Tina

I’m the owner of Carrots ‘N’ Cake as well as a Certified Nutrition Coach and Functional Diagnostic Nutrition Practitioner (FDN-P). I use macros and functional nutrition to help women find balance within their diets while achieving their body composition goals.

An in-depth, 4-week reverse dieting course for women who feel like their metabolism has slowed down, think they might have hormonal imbalance and can’t lose weight no matter what they do.

Good morning!

I woke up with a sore throat, but I’m feeling surprisingly upbeat today. Hopefully, it’s nothing serious and just goes away. Apparently, I wasn’t truly well when I decided to run the Chilly Half Marathon yesterday. Oops. But, PR-ing was totally worth it! 😉

My morning started with oatmeal. Big surprise, right? 😉 To me, it’s just the perfect breakfast– warm, creamy, subtly sweet, and so, so satisfying.

In the mix:

  • 1/3 cup oats
  • 1/4 cup Venetian Vineyard granola
  • 2 tbsp ground flaxseed meal
  • 1/2 cup soy milk
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 big scoop of peanut butter

Now that Mal and I are getting settled into our new house, our brains are spinning with ideas– where to put things, how to decorate, what to buy, and how to remodel.

The first “big” project on our agenda is replacing the fence in the backyard. It’s old and made of wood, so it’s starting to rot and fall down. Fences are expensive, so we’re starting to save our pennies now.

Our second big project is remodeling the bathroom. It’s in decent shape, but it’s not very stylish. The tub and tile are brown and the floor is totally 80’s. It’s not grubby or falling apart, so it’s not a priority. I’m on the East Coast but there are some really good ideas I found on a Los Angeles plumber site so I need to do more looking around and see what I can do on a budget. Even still, Mal and I are already thinking about what we want to do to it.

We gathered a bunch of ideas at IKEA the other day, so I thought it’d be fun to have you guys weigh in too.

Which bathroom style do you like the best? Or which elements do you like from each?

Avon Promotion to Benefit TNT

Just a quick reminder about my sister’s Avon promotion to benefit Team In Training (TNT). She is going to donate 50% of her Avon sales through Carrots ”˜N’ Cake to TNT. The final day of her promo is this Thursday, November 18th.

If you’d like to buy some Avon, here’s a list of my sister’s favorite products. To purchase, just click over to her special Avon Fundraising page. The holidays are right around the corner! 😉

P.S. There are photos of our new kitchen over on Trading Up Downtown this morning! 😀

  1. I vote C. I was just at IKEA yesterday but it was a madhouse! I thought about getting stuff but ended up discretely abandoning my basket halfway through the marketplace area.

  2. Maybe it’s just because I dislike light wood, but I say B or E! The B would probably be best for hiding things away from Murphy and others, though. The black looks so sleek!

  3. hi tina..

i love bathroom B… it is contemporary, has a double sink and enough sink space. you don’t have to worry about water all over the place. things are away and you don’t see everything on display. it just seems more clean cut and i love espresso finish.

btw.. your dog is so cute, i want one too, but it’s so much work. i’d totally let my dog sleep on the couch too! 🙂

  4. I am drawn to “B”, however the sinks are too close together. Double sinks are a must with plenty of space for each of you.

Also, storage is important! I also prefer a separate tub/shower if that is an option.

    Good Luck!

  5. Hand down, B! I think it is sleek, and modern. I think it also looks the most upscale/non-cheap. To me A looks a little unfinished, and D doesn’t offer any closed storage which. I also sort of like C. I think the color of the cabinets in C is fresher than D.

  6. PRs are def worth a little sore throat. tea w/honey & lemon usually helps me, or a hot toddy 😉 for bathroom, definitely B or E seem like they’d be the most classic and long-lasting options.

  7. I really like B – the his & her format’s really nice, and it just personally seems so much more contemporary and refined than the others. I love minimalistic things, though, so maybe I’m being a bit biased! 😛

  8. From pictures I’ve seen of other places you’ve lived in, I think option C is most like you guys. Personally, I like less modern looking things, more shabby/country stuff, I guess. But to each his own!

  9. Definitely C. It makes you ready to face the day AND helps you relax and de-stress at night. At least, that’s how I imagine it would make me feel. 🙂

  10. I enjoy reading your blog. From someone who has been married for 25 years, make sure your bathroom has 2 sinks, if the space is available. That has kept peace in our marriage. Congratulations on your new home!

  11. Well given the choices I’d vote for B. However all are too “modern” for my taste. After several apartments and two houses my advice is definitely for double sinks and as much counter/vanity space as you can possibly squeeze in! An under counter drawers and cabinets are definitely a must. I simply have never felt drawn to the pedestal sink look simply for the lack of storage. Oh – and closed shelving is a must – don’t want all the world seeing all my clutter!

  12. I like E the best … warm and pretty. I do like B but not as is … too cold. I tend to think mixing some of B’s components with E would be interesting!

  13. I like A for the design and the storage space below. My friends have this one and there is a lot of space and it looks great. Second choice is B, more space for all the stuff. Modern design are nice but you need somewhere for all the creams and stuff.
