Hello, hello! I can’t believe it’s already Thursday. This week is flying by. Not that I am complaining, of course!Ā  šŸ˜‰

Breakfast

Yesterday’s breakfast was something a little different. Last week, I had some fun at the bulk bins at Whole Foods and picked up some millet, along with some other things, to try.

I cooked a small batch of millet on the stovetop and then added sliced banana, maple syrup, pecans, dried cranberries, shredded coconut, and cinnamon to it. The millet reminded me of couscous, but bigger and chewier. I really liked it, especially when mixed with all of those other ingredients!

After breakfast, I got ready to take a Barre class at C2 Pilates in Dedham. (They also have locations in South Boston and Avon, CT.) The nice folks from C2 Pilates invited me to take a class for free.

On my drive down to Dedham, I stopped by Marylou’s for a decaf iced White Chocolate Chip coffee. I knew I needed an iced coffee in order to face the rush hour traffic on Route 3 (or else I would lose my mind and want to punch people), so I made it a priority to stop for one.

When I snapped the photo below of the onramp to the highway, my car had literally been in park for a few minutes. The cars in front of me weren’t moving at all. Not even rolling. It took me a solid 10 minutes to even get on the highway and then it was a slow-moving parking lot the rest of the way to Dedham. It took me over an hour to get to C2 Pilates (about 15 miles), but my Marylou’s iced coffee + some good tunes on the radio kept me happy. (If you can’t tell, I seriously hate traffic. It’s my #2 pet peeve behind people who litter. Traffic = the worst.)

Workout

I’ve taken a number of Barre classes over the years, so I was excited to see what the BARREroom was all about. They always kick my butt (literally and figuratively).Ā If you’re not familiar with Barre class, they’re a fusion of Pilates, dance, yoga, and functional training choreographed to music. They’re a fun way to work out and classes typically utilize various exercise equipment, including balls, bands, and small weights to tone and strengthen your muscles.

C2 Pilates and the BARREroom are located just 2 miles from Legacy Place in the Dedham Health & Athletic Club. I actually drove right by it (it’s set off from the main road), so if you’re driving from Legacy Place, take a right at the lights when you see IHOP and UNOs. Just a little tip so you don’t miss it too!

When I walked into the class, I immediately noticed the fun vibe of the room. There was funky lighting, upbeat dance music, and Footloose (the movie) was projecting onto a big screen. It definitely didn’t look like the other Barre classes that I’ve taken! It was also different because we kept our sneakers on and didn’t just wear socks for the workout.

The class itself was similar to others I’ve taken with all sorts of body weight pliƃĀ©s, squats, pulses, and related burning. We also used balls, bands, and small weights.

The class was a slower pace compared to other Barre classes I’ve taken, but when I talked to the instructor, CC, after class, she explained that this particular class is more of a foundations class and is suppose to teach proper form, which is essential for getting the most out of this type of workout. As I’ve learned in the past, little tweaks in form make a huge difference!

After class, CCā€ā€she’s in the middle in blackā€ā€rounded up some of the ladies for a photo.

I really enjoyed class at the BARREroom yesterday. Thanks so much for the invite!

Health News & Views

I recently discovered how wonderful the bulk bins are at my local grocery store. They’re a great place to save money on your favorite foods, such as whole grains, dried fruits, and nuts, but it’s also an awesome place to try new foods. Since you can buy any size quantity in the bulk section, you can sample and experiment with new ingredients for the fraction of the price of buying a full-sized product.
