Back-to-School Dinner

Mastermind Weekend 1/16

Hey there!

I'm Tina

Good morning! TGIF!

Sorry about being a haircut tease yesterday. Here’s the new do!

It’s not all that different, but it looks a zillion times better. My hair pretty much looked and felt like straw at the ends, but now it’s shiny and healthy. I’m lovin’ my new look!

Last night, Mal and I met Erin and Mike for a back-to-school dinner. Mal and Erin are both teachers, so we wanted to fit in a weeknight dinner before the two of them go back to school. It’s so much harder to get together during the week once school is in session.

Mal and I arrived early at Daedalus to snag a table outside on the roof deck. Usually, it’s crazy busy, so we wanted to make sure we got a table for dinner.

Well, when we arrived, the roof deck was completely empty– but for a good reason: it was about to rain. Wah.

Mal and I reluctantly moved inside and entertained ourselves while we waited for Mike and Erin.

While cleaning the house the other day, I randomly found a bag holder, so I brought it with me to test out. (I got it from a wine dinner more than a year ago, but have never used it.) It worked pretty well. I mean, it kept the bottom of my bag clean and it looked pretty cool.

When our friends arrived, I dove into a couple of appetizers: pita + hummus.

And roasted red pepper + spinach soup.

Lots of dipping occurred.

For my entrée, I ordered the bruschetta, which came with a side salad with creamy balsamic dressing.

For dessert, we headed to Sweet for cupcakes. I shared the Caramel Macchiato cupcake with Mal. I liked it, but it was insanely sweet”” even for me. Of course, none of it went to waste, but I wouldn’t order this flavor again.

We walked around Harvard Square for a little while longer before saying goodbye to our friends. I can’t believe summer is just about over. Wah.

When Mal and I got home, he put on some awesome movie with the Rock in it. I really wanted to watch it with him, but I felt restless and went for a 3-mile run at the gym instead. Gym > movies with the Rock in it.

30-Minute Treadmill Run

  1. Your new hairdo looks GREAT- even from the pics it looks really healthy! Props for going for a run AFTER dinner, gotta love the sugar high from eating a cupcake! 🙂

  2. I love those bag holders! So simple but so handy. When I went to Paris this summer, they were everywhere – so I bought one for myself and one for my sister. When I bust it out at restaurants/bars, all the girls think it’s genius!

  3. Your hair looks AWESOME! It looked great before but now it’s so shiny and just great looking…it’s like Miss Clairol shiny right off the page. Pop, bam, sizzle. I can SEE the healthiness 3000 miles away just from the pics. Gorgeous!

    1. @Amy: I guess it depends how much I eat. If I ate a huge meal, I probably wouldn’t feel well, but, typically, eating before exercise doesn’t bother my stomach.

  4. Your hair looks awesome girl!! Totally need one of those purse holders, I normally hang my purse off my knee.
The bruschetta looks like gourmet pizza -nom nom :).

  5. LOVE the hair. I’m hoping after my cut that it comes out looking as good! I’m still in the “feels-like-straw” area right now. Haha.

I’ve never heard of (or seen) Daedalus but it definitely looks like my kind of place. Now Sweet? That’s a different story – I’m more than familiar and completely in love with it 🙂

  6. The decor of that restaurant is so nice! And I LOVE your haircut. I also just got one a little while ago, and like you, it doesn’t seem that different, but I feel SO much better!

  7. Your hair looks fantastic! I totally understand the weeknight dinner thing. I’m a teacher too and I start after Labor Day- next week I have plans with friends almost every night because I feel the panic to see everyone before the year starts haha.

  8. Wow, your hair looks so healthy! I know what you mean though — even the slightest trim can make a world of difference. I’m currently in your previous situation… my hair is so straw-like right now!

That looks like an amazing dinner! That bruschetta has me craving it now.

  9. I’m going to attempt your 30′ run later at the gym 🙂
I’m running my first race on 18th September and it’s a 4 Mile (6.4 km) race only for women, it’s called the Run2Day Ladies Damloop in Amsterdam. I’m very excited for it but I don’t know if I’m training right for it… now that the day is coming closer and closer I’m really starting to feel anxious about it. I can run for 30min at a very slow pace but I wouldn’t say I’m a complete beginner (as I don’t have to do walk/run), but I’d love your advice on how to train for this! Thanks, Laura.

  10. That bag holder is a great idea! I hate when there is nowhere to put your purse. Nice new ‘do too!

Mmm, Sweet. It’s been far too long!

  11. Your hair looks really cute! The color really warms everything up.

I feel like that when my husband watches National Lampoons movies. He will watch every stupid straight to DVD movie of theirs. No thanks. 🙂

  12. Love the hair!!

I haven’t tried Daedalus yet; there’s so much in my neighborhood that I haven’t tried yet. I went to Sweet last week and had a delicious Pina Colada cupcake. So good! 🙂

  13. Love the purse hanger! I have one that I go through phases of using (I forget about it a lot too), but it is so much better than the floor or back of the chair (where it can get knocked off). I get a lot of compliments on it too – I guess because it’s not a normal accessory. 🙂

  14. Confession: I totally have a litty bitty crush on The Rock. NO JUDGIES PLEASE! hahaha

I treat my handbags totally irreverently– why I could never rock a white or cream-colored bag like you– but hanging them up would be a really nice change. Must look into getting one!
