April Cookbook Challenge

Hi, guys!

Can you believe April is right around the corner? April 1st is NEXT WEEK? Holy cow. Where did March go? Seriously, the month was a blur. Anyway, I have a fun April challenge for you guys!

Remember my Cookbook Challenge from 2010? If not, I basically challenged myself to cook at least one recipe from my cookbooks each week. I own a ton of amazing cookbooks, but I hardly ever use them, so I thought this would be a fun way to mix things up””and it definitely was!

So, once again, I’m hosting a Cookbook Challenge on CNC during the month of April, and I’d love for you guys to join me and cook from your own cookbooks. It’s easy to join! Here’s how: Each week for the month of April, just pick at least one recipe from your cookbooks and make it. Simple as that. The goal of the challenge, of course, is to use your cookbooks as much as possible, so feel free to make more than one recipe! Actually, make a whole bunch!

As a little incentive for participating in the challenge, I am going to host a giveaway at the end of each week for a chance to win some of my very favorite cookbooks. To enter, all you need to do is leave a comment about a recipe that you made that week. If you make more than one recipe, you can enter the giveaway more than one time. See how that works? Winking smile

Are you in? I hope so! I remember really loving this challenge and having a lot of fun with it. It helped me discover some new recipes and kept things interesting in the kitchen. Plus, my poor, neglected cookbooks finally got some lovin’!

Questions of the Day

Are you guilty of neglecting your cookbooks?

How often do you cook from your cookbooks?

Are you in for this challenge?

  1. What a great idea! I try to use my cookbooks every few months but then they go back in the drawer and I forget about them. I tend to look and think “this looks great” and never do anything about it. I will partake in the challenge!

  2. I am so in! One of my new year’s resolutions was to try new recipes, especially from the cookbooks I own (my brother gave me Bittman’s HUGE How to Cook Everything Vegetarian cookbook) and once a week is definitely do-able. Thanks for the extra push!

  3. This is awesome! I’m an avid recipe keeper/printer/tearer so I try to do this as much as possible, but I still end up falling back to the good ol’ recipes I know by heart.

  4. I’m guilty of buying books in general haha. I think this is a great idea though! I always want to try more recipes from my books and then just settle for what I know. I’ll definitely join you in the challenge. 🙂

  5. I constantly find a recipe in a cookbook that I want to try, but never actually take them out to try it. I am in!

  6. Funny coincidence, I just set up the same challenge for me with all of the bookmarked recipes from blogs I have. But don’t even start on the cookbooks which are waiting back home in Germany for me. They will get some attention as soon as I am back from France 🙂

  7. I’m definitely in! And totally guilty of neglecting my cookbooks, especially because pinterest is around!

  8. The giant Rubbermaid tub of cookbooks in my laundry room could definitely use some dusting off. I haven’t even touched the beautiful Donna Hay cookbooks I got for Christmas, and that’s just offensive to the gift-giver. Definitely in for this challenge!

  9. I definitely neglect my cookbooks! Can we use magazines too? I have a whole STACK of Clean Eating mags I need to crack open! 🙂

  10. I am very guilty of neglecting my cookbooks! I use to cook from them all of the time, but with so many recipes (blogs, pinterest, etc) on the internet that look awesome, they have a tendency to get pushed to the side now. I still love to go thru my cookbooks though, so I am IN on this challenge!!!! I can’t wait!

  11. How fun! My fiance and I have so many cookbooks that are neglected, so we challenged ourselves to cook at least one recipe from each throughout the year 🙂

  12. Love this challenge. I was already thinking about doing something similar this month! I’ve already got my 1st recipe picked out!

  13. My relatives love to get me cookbooks for my birthday and Christmas. Unfortunately, most of them has of yet to be cracked open. I like your idea for April, though””what the hell? I’m gonna give this a try! Too many beautiful cookbooks on my shelf going to waste. Thanks for the inspiration : )

  14. I totally neglect my poor cookbooks and it is a shame because I have so many. I am ready for the challenge. Thanks to CNC I do more menu planning than ever before . As a matter of fact, two days ago I made a CNC recipe for the first time Cheesy Brussels Sprouts and Sausage. Yum! It was a hit with my 14 month old twins too.

  15. How fun! I only have a few cookbooks, which I reference for some of my favorites. But I’ve always wanted to cook my way through a cookbook a la Julie & Julia. I just get hung up in the cost of fancy, unseasonal ingredients. Darn you, practicality? Why do you always show up when I’m trying to have fun?

  16. I’m soooo up for this challenge! I have a ton of great cookbooks that rarely get used because I seem to cook my same recipes all the time.

  17. YES. I have a zillion and read them like novels and dogear all the pages and want to lick the pictures, but then end up making everything from the Internet. Which is crazy, because I LOVE cooking from a book and having it up on my cute little stand. Great challenge idea. I might even make one recipe. 🙂

  18. This couldn’t come at a better time, I really need to go through my cook books, donate the ones I don’t use and start trying some new recipes from some old favourites! I am definitely going to get involved!

  19. This is a great challenge. I think it’s all too easy to resort to using the internet for recipes even though the the perfect recipe exists within a cookbook. I use my cookbooks quite often, usually everyday, as I am always looking for inspiration for my job/clients.

  20. I love this challenge!! I have so many great cookbooks, but more use them for inspiration for my own creations rather than trying the actual recipes…which I supposed still means I’m using them. Either way, I’m in!
