Apple Picking at Honey Pot Hill Orchards

Hi, friends!

The weather here was absolutely beautiful, so we took advantage and went apple picking with my in-laws on Saturday afternoon.

We went to Honey Pot Hill Orchards in Stow, Massachusetts. It’s actually the same place we go (almost) every year with my mom and sister to pick apples, but, in the last couple of years, we waited too long into the season to go. We’d typically go in mid-October and then there wouldn’t be any apples left to pick, so we decided to go earlier this year.

In mid-September, there were plenty of apples to pick… for the most part.

There were a few variety of apple (and pear!) trees that had already been picked clean, except for some fruit at the very top. The men, of course, saw this as an opportunity to climb some ladders! Haha!

Success! We got some pears and Gala apples!

Quinn hung out in the stroller while we picked apples. (Can we talk about his pumpkin hat? One of my father-in-law’s cousins made it for him. Adorable, right?)

Eventually, our little peanut pumpkin got hungry, so we whipped out a bottle and fed him in the middle of the orchard. #lifewithanewborn

Honey Pot was crazy-busy on Saturday, so by the time we picked apples and ate lunch, the lines for cider donuts, apple cider, caramel apples, pumpkin butter (basically all of the good stuff) were super long. Not kidding you, there were probably close to 200 people waiting in line for cider donuts. Anyway, we decided not to wait and headed home. We were all a little bummed, but we WILL get cider donuts before the fall is over!

  1. This screams Fall, I love it! I haven’t gone apple picking in years, mainly because the apple lady at our Farmers Market spoils us with her lovely, sweet apples (cheap too!). I love the pics of Q – he looks unimpressed 🙂

  2. Apple AND pumpkin picking (I like to do mine simultaneously!). Pumpkin butter. Apple crisp!

I always think of apple picking as an October event but, like you said, they really run out of apples. You have to go much earlier! Q is adorable and I love the hat!

  3. I love apple picking! The one we go to is on top of a big mountain, and there’s a LOT of steep climbing up and down to get to the orchards. I remember the first year we went with my daughter (who was about 8 months old at the time), she got hungry as we were finishing up, so I nursed her one handed in the Ergo as we walked down the mountainside, with a big basket of apples in my free hand. It was a riot.
And I can’t imagine all of the extra work of having to bring and prep bottles every time you leave the house, hats off to you! I loved how breastfeeding meant I could be super lazy and never have to worry about food when my daughter was a baby, lol. Props to the bottle-feeding moms out there!

  4. I’ve never done apple picking (except off my grandmas tree) or pumpkin picking, but I think I’d prefer apple. I have to go with apple butter, I love it. And definitely apple crisp. Pumpkin pie just never did it for me. Something about the texture…just too mushy.

This looks like a fun day!!

  5. Apple picking! So fun 🙂 I met my husband under an apple tree (we just celebrated our 5 year meeting anniversary), so picking apples for me now has super special meaning <3

I love pumpkin butter, and apple crisp!

    You guys are so cute!

  6. That pumpkin hat is too cute! I want to make one for my friend’s baby.

I love all things pumpkin and apple, so too hard to choose, but I absolutely love warm spiced apple cider once it cools down in the fall. Yum!

  7. Little cutie!

There’s something so nice and satisfying about going out to pick apples.

Also – can I choose both apple crisp AND pumpkin pie? 😀

  8. I’m a newer reader. I live in the Boston area and was at Honey Pot Saturday too! My favorite orchard. A tip for next year… get donuts before you pick apples. I only had to wait in like a few minutes this year!

  9. I’m planning to go there first weekend in October, I’m hoping the lines won’t be as crazy then, eek!

Pumpkin picking…I’m too lazy and pregnant to do apple picking this year!

Apple butter or pumpkin butter? I’ve had neither but my husband loves apple butter.

Apple crisp or pumpkin pie? I could never choose! I just saw a recipe for a pumpkin pie apple crisp, genius!:

  10. Love the “Moo, Baa, La La La” reference! It’s my 6 month old son’a favorite book and I have it completely memorized now! #crazythingsparentsdo

  11. So fun! Believe it or not, I’ve never been apple picking! I think it’d be so fun though. The perfect fall activity! I’d have to go with pumpkin butter (although I’d never deny apple butter!), and the last question is SO hard. I’d probably go with apple crisp if I HAD to choose, but I love pumpkin pie too!

  12. Apple picking, apple butter, and apple crisp! Although, my first vegan pumpkin pie came out ridiculously good the other day. 🙂 I am just like you and usually wait too late in the season to go apple picking. I need to get to an orchard soon! If you’re ever up for an adventure in the Catskills, you should check out Storm King Art Center. It’s a 500 acre sculpture garden, with beautiful trails and meadows to stroll through (and picnic in). I think your fam would love it, especially in the fall!

  13. I married into a family that owns in Apple Orchard in Rochester, MN. So Apple Orchards have taken on a new meaning for me….work! haha. I still enjoy picking an apple or two off of the tree though 🙂

  14. I would choose apple picking because I love apples! I never get tired of them! Unfortunately there is no apple picking in Alberta (Canada) that I know of – it just gets too cold 😦

  15. I’ve never been apple picking so I guess pumpkin picking is my favorite. I really want to go apple picking this year though. It was on my list to do last year but I waited too long to go. 🙁

Also, pumpkin hat = super adorable!

  16. ALL the PUMPKINS and ALL the APPLES!
Fall is one of the best times of year 🙂
Q’s little hat is so adorable! I will keep that idea in mind for when my little one’s come along. Do you know where she got the instructions to make it?
