Our fourth wedding anniversary was last week, but Mal and I celebrated today (since I traveled 3,000 miles away from him on our actual anniversary).

We planned to celebrate with a late lunch in Cambridge, so we exchanged cards before we started driving to the restaurant.

My card, the one with the pugs on it, said: ā€œAfter all our years togetherā€Ā¦ that look and those eyes still get me, doggone it! Happy Anniversary!ā€Ā Mal and I have this thing about eyes in our relationship. I joke that he has big bug eyes and I often poke him in the eye by mistakeā€ā€I have no idea how it happens so much, but it does. Even our first dance as a married couple was about eyes (ā€œFan of Your Eyesā€Ā by Tim Blane). Ok, we’re weird. That’s ok.

Mal’s card to me had two old people sitting on a couch on the front and inside it said: ā€œFor their anniversary, Larry and Linda tried a new position.ā€Ā Of course, Mal crossed out Larry and Linda and wrote Mal and Tina. We have this long running joke about me sleeping on Mal’s side of the bed. For some reason, he won’t switch spots with meā€ā€even just for one night. I actually think it’s gotten to the point where I only want to sleep on his side of the bed because he won’t let me. Mal thinks the whole thing is hilarious, so now he’s really adamant about not letting me sleep on his side of the bedā€ā€but, according to the card, maybe we’ll try a new position when we’re super old.

Lunch

For lunch, we went to Miracle of Science in Central Square. We’ve had a gift certificate there for nearly a year now, so we finally cashed it in today.

Mal and I were both starving, so we started with chips and guacamole.

For my meal, I ordered the veggie burger, which came with melted Jack cheese and a spicy jalapeno aioli. It was awesome.

On the side were roasted red potatoes with a sun-dried tomato sauce. They were also awesome.

My only gripe about Miracle of Science is that it was uncomfortably hot inside. I don’t know if the air conditioning broke or what, but Mal and I were sweating like crazy just sitting there, which didn’t make for a very enjoyable meal. We pretty much chowed our food and got the heck out of there. If you look closely in the photo below, you can see sweat marks on the front of Mal’s shirt. I had them dripping down my front as well.

On the drive home, I picked up my new laptop. Hooray! I can’t even explain how excited I am about this baby. My current laptop is the biggest piece of crap (ever), so I’m more than ready to say goodbye to it and welcome my new HP Folio 13 with open arms!

I’m usually not a fan of PCs (I’m forever a Mac gal), but I bought another one, so let me explain why. Basically, Apple doesn’t have a blogging software as good as Windows Live Writer (WLW), which you can only use on PCs (unless you get Parallels, but I’ve heard it’s kind of a pain in the butt and doesn’t always work properly). I’ve tried many Mac blogging programs over the years and none are as good as WLW. (Remember my relationship with Ecto? Ugh, that program made me crazy.) I use WLW multiple times a day for my job, so I sucked it up and bought another one. However, this time, I did some serious research (with the help of Mal and my friend Mike) before purchasing this laptop. I know it’s a good one!

An Inspiring Weekend at the CrossFit Games

Last weekend, I attended the 2012 CrossFit Games in Carson, California. It was an amazing opportunity and one that I will never forget. Watching the athletes compete in the various physical competitions left me feeling inspired and even more in love with the ā€œsport of fitness.ā€Ā After spending the weekend surrounded by some of the fittest people in the world, I now realize just how much CrossFitĀ has changed my lifeā€ā€physically, mentally, and socially. (And thank you to Reebok and GNC; they paid for my travel and accommodations at the games.)

CrossFit could change your life too, so here are five reasons why you should try CrossFit. Haven’t heard of CrossFit? It’s a community-based fitness program with studios, or ā€œboxesā€Ā as they’re called, popping up just about everywhere! Read more.

Question of the Day

Which do you prefer: Macs or PCs?

P.S. I still have two more posts from the CrossFit Games to publish. Hopefully, I’ll have them up tomorrow!

  1. I’ve always been a PC girl, but in the past few years I’ve had so many laptops crap out on me that I’m really considering a Mac. Right now I have a HP, and basically, what it comes down to is HP put out a bad product. I’ve only had it for 7 months and it will cost more to fix than to buy a new one. So I guess right now I’m a little sour. I’m going to buy a new one, but I have the same hold back with getting a mac, WLW, what to do…what to do….

  2. Those cards are awesome. LOL
I’ve always been a PC girl because I find Macs to be too much for my wallet. I’ve been using PC since I was a kid, so I’ll probably always have a PC. I loved my Toshiba Satellite, but it’s been acting super wonky lately, so I might be in the market for a new laptop soon. Who knows?

  3. In class, majority of my classmates whip out thier sleek white beautiful Macs, but I love my PC. Macs are cool looking, but when it comes down to functionality, PC’s rule.

  4. This is such a fun post. I, too, am REALLY specific about sleeping on my side of the bed…even if I’m only napping during the day! My husband doesn’t care, but I have this weird paranoia about missing my alarm…it’s weird. I’m also a Mac girl, but you’re right. Apple simple doesn’t have ALL necessary software support yet. They’ve certainly expanded over the years, but there are just some things they haven’t focused on yet.

  5. I have always been a mac girl. My parents have always had apple in there home growing up. I have nothing against pc’s but I am akin to mac books :). I love those anniversary cards so funny! I also like your necklace.

  6. I really laughed at the bed thing between you and Mal. My wife and I have had the same debate for the last ten years. My side of the bed is mine, but it doesn’t stop her from always trying to grab my side, especially when we are in a hotel or visiting someplace. Very funny. Love reading the updates everyday!

  7. You made a good choice!!! I’m a mac girl too and when I first bought my Mac I tried using Parallels but it literally was SUCH a pain and basically just opens up the normal windows screen so you don’t even feel like you’re using a mac. Weird. One day it crashed and never opened again, though I didn’t care since it was always slow and annoying anyway. And, although I LOVE my mac, it is old and slow and earlier this year I decided it was time for an upgrade. Now that I blog I switched to small PC and it’s not too bad! It’s worth it for WLW šŸ™‚

  8. I don’t mind Iphones and Ipads (yet I’m an android phone gal and an hp tablet owner) but I am not, in anyway shape or form, a fan of macbooks, etc. The district I worked for was and everything was mac based and I just couldn’t get into it.

  9. Happy anniversary and congrats on the new laptop! I’ve become a MAC girl, at one time I never thought I would say that. However, I’m new to blogging and haven’t tried livewriter. I may change my mind. šŸ˜‰

  10. Happy belated anniversary! I always sleep on my husband’s side of the bed when he’s gone, or even when he stays up later than me. He always gripes about how hard it is to wake me up to sleep on “his” side, even though my side is free!

I have an iPad and iPhone, and would LOVE a MacBook because they are so aesthetically pleasing, but I’ve only ever owned a PC. I’m torn about my next lap top purchase, but since I’ve just started blogging I may stick with PC.

  11. I have a question… I am an avid Mac user but just bought my own domain to start my new blog and am looking at PC’s because of WLW.. any readers out there have any insight into other blog writer programs that are ok on Mac?
before I shell out money on a blog that hasn’t even launched haa

  12. Blaaah I hate it when restaurants are really hot! That is a serious appetite-killer for me. Your lunch looks yummy though! And it sounds like you had a very good reason for getting a new computer which will make your life easier šŸ™‚

My family and I have always been PC people (That comes from living in Seattle and having parents that worked for Microsoft, I would think!) but when I went to college, I found that there were no PC repair places near my school. So after a very dead computer one thanksgiving break, my family ventured into the Apple Store on Black Friday (for the record, if you get there at 6am, it’s not that bad. But still crowded) and hooked me up with a Mac. Now I love it!

  13. Hi,

Congrats on the anniversary! I have a random question –

Would you be able to tell me what company made the Larry & Linda anniversary card? My girlfriend and I bought one for our friends Larry & Linda, then I lost it, and we’re trying to find another copy to buy. Knowing the company would help. Thanks so much!
