Morning Workouts and Hemp Bagels

Good morning, blog friends! 😎

I had an excellent workout this morning: Body Pump (at home) + 15 minutes of push-ups and core work. I was exhausted by the end, but in a good way! 😀 I love starting my day with a tough workout like that! Feels so good!

Speaking of morning workouts, check out my newest Health post:

Morning workouts have been key to maintaining my weight loss for the past few years. I like to eat, so burning some extra calories allows me to splurge every day. Plus, exercising puts me in a good mood, especially once I have finished a workout and feel accomplished.

So, I’m not much of a bagel person. I like them, but for the amount of calories and lack of satiety, they’re not really “worth it” to me. However, the nice people at the French Meadow Bakery sent me some of their Hemp Bagels to try, so I knew I needed to give them a fair chance, especially since they are are made with all good things hemp.

The deliciously chewy Hemp Bagels contain a whopping 19 grams of protein and 13 grams of fiberAnd they are vegan, certified organic, and yeast-free. What a hotshot bagel!

Both the inside and outside of the bagel are packed with crunchy, nutty hempseed, flaxseed, pumpkin, and sesame seeds.

I toasted my Hemp Bagel and topped it with chunky peanut butter and banana slices. What a yummy combo!

I feel content after eating my breakfast, but I’ll let you guys know how my bagel holds me over until lunch. Let’s hope it’s different than the rest!

New Gig

Question of the Day

What are your thoughts on bagels? Love ’em? Hate ’em?

  1. Looks like a yummy breakfast :o) Can’t wait to hear how well it holds you over.

Just wondering, I hadn’t heard that there were benefits to avoiding yeast…do you know why being “yeast free” gives these bagels an upper-hand (other than the others listed)?

  2. Every now and then I have a craving for a bagel and cream cheese. They are sooooo good but usually make me super full for an hour, then starving after that. Those hemp bagels look good for sandwiches!

  3. I’m not much of a bagel eater either, they don’t really hold me over for very long at all, maybe I just haven’t found the right ones?!

  4. I’m trying to become a morning exerciser but first I need to become a morning person lol!

I love bagels and they leave me really, really full but only if I pick the right topping (banana and PB are my fave) and sometimes I hollow it out because the best part really is that yummy exterior with just a bit of the chewy insides.

  5. I can’t wait to try the hemp bagels! Thanks for reminding me again why morning workouts are the best! I’m currently in transition trying to become more of a morning workout person 🙂

  6. Oh man anyone who says they don’t like bagels must have never had a real NY bagel. So soft and chewy yet crunchy… My FAV food. They’re not horrific for you if you just eat half at a time. I wouldn’t splurge on anything other then the real thing though! My friends consider me a bagel conessiour and I always savor bagels when I eat them haha. My fav is whole wheat everything with low fat veggie cream cheese. Plenty of authentic ny bagel places started jumping on the whole wheat band wagon.

New find: flagels. Flattened bagels. Less carbs bc they have less doughy insides, they’re great for egg sandwiches.

  7. I love French Meadow Bakery Bagels- I only live about 10 minutes from the Headquaters and eat their products often. There is even a Bakery in the Minneapolis Airport.

  8. Unless I’m heading out the door to run for a few hours, I avoid bagels or opt for mini bagels. I don’t usually like starting my day with something so dense.

  9. I’ve seen those hemp bagels. Almost picked some up. Next time!

Morning workouts are the best thing ever. I love feeling like I’ve accomplished something before I’ve even had breakfast!

    Congrats on the new gig!

  10. Tina – I LOVE Western Alternative Bagels – Sweet Wheat is my favorite! They are 110 calories and 8 grams of fiber. I had one this morning with Barney Butter and a few chocolate and peanut butter chips – and it held me until lunch! YUMMY!

  11. Bagels are OK to me, don’t love em or hate ’em.

I love morning exercise too, and have for years. I’m going to be a mommy in 6 weeks, and worried about how a newborn will change that routine I’m so used to. Any suggestions?

  12. I haven’t had a bagel in a long time. I do like them. Tina you said that you don’t eat them that often because they eat into your breakfast calorie budget. What is your breakfast budget if you don’t mind me asking?

  13. I haven’t had a bagel in ages! But… French Meadow is one of our local bakeries, so I’m going to have to try them sometime! Thanks for reviewing them!

  14. I’m hooked on Ezekiel bagels (and muffins) and sometimes I’ll have a Great Grains bagel from Einstein Bros, but usually I skip them because they’re my weakness but NEVER feel me up. I saw these on Jenna’s (Eat, Live, Run) blog and have been searching for them around here. They look AWESOME!

  15. I like bagels, but I rarely buy them. No real reason – I guess it’s just more cost effective to buy a loaf of bread than 6 bagels for about the same price.

  16. I typically cannot stand plain bagels, they gotta have some cinnamon and raisins, strawberry chunks, or a poppyseed crust. My biggest concern though is how big and breadier they’re getting! I like mine soft and tender, yielding to a bite. Not overtly chewy and occasionally dry (maybe I’m just getting bad bagels here).

  17. Yum! I am definitely on a hemp kick these days (powder, milk, etc.), so these bagels look like something I’d love to try! I generally like bagels, as long as they’re a reasonable size. I really like the Rudi’s brand, although they’re so hard to find!

  18. I just picked these up and tried them this morning. I really liked them. I cant eat peanuts butter so I just tried margarine and cream cheese.. not too bad.. any other topping ideas
