Hi, guys! Happy Monday to you!

How was your weekend? Mine was nice. Mal and I went to an engagement party on Saturday night and then we spent yesterday getting our lives in order for the upcoming week, especially since he hadn’t been to school for two weeks. OMGSOMUCHSNOW!

Ok, so I have a bunch of random things to tell you, and I tried to come up with a ”˜theme’ for this post, but nothing seemed to work, sooooo I’ll just get to it””starting with the most exciting piece of information!

I’m a Brooks Run Happy Ambassador! Woohoo! I am so pumped about this new partnership, and I can’t wait to share all of my ”˜run happy‘ adventures with you!

Speaking of running, I already planned out my workouts for the week since last week’s training was an epic fail. Traveling + stomach bug = very little exercise.

  • Sunday: 3 miles
  • Monday: Off
  • Tuesday: 20/8 Yassos/20
  • Wednesday: KFIT
  • Thursday: Tempo 30/30/15
  • Friday: KFIT
  • Saturday: 2:30 long run

And since we’re on the topic of exercise, I signed up for the CrossFit Open!

I know. I’m surprised too. Haha! Honestly, I wasn’t planning to register, but my box started this team intramural thing that involved recruiting members and before I knew it, I was on a team and signing up for the Open. I’m not really sure how it’s going to go since I’ve lost so much strength, but, hey, it’ll be fun. I mean, my team ordered t-shirts and headbands (JUNK, obviously), so I’m in it for the good times to be had!

And since I know I’ll get questions, my relationship with Brooks is purely running-related. My relationship with Reebok is (mostly) CrossFit, and both brands are totally cool with these relationships coexisting.

More fun things to tell you”¦

Mal, Quinn, Murphy, and I just booked a lake house with Dave and Marie and their daughter Carly for a week in August this summer. Yesssssss! It’s still 5.5 months away, but we are so incredibly pumped! Friends + summer = the best!

Quinn had his first babysitter on Saturday night and he did great! When Mal and I were at the engagement party on Saturday night, Kerrie‘s mom watched our little peanut. She’s such a great woman and we totally trust her. They both had a really nice time together, and I’m so glad it worked out since we don’t really have a go-to babysitter down here. My mom and sister are always willing to take care of Quinn, but they’re both about an hour away, so it’s not super convenient when it’s late at night (and snowing).

Speaking of our little peanut, Quinn is standing””a lot! He isn’t crawling yet, but, boy, does he like to stand and “walk” with our help. He actually kind of cries when you try to make him sit or crawl. He’d MUCH rather stand. He’s holding onto the couch, coffee table, and random toys that my sister gave me. Maybe Quinn will skip crawling all together? Don’t some babies do that? Here he is showing Muprhy his wooden mallet. Too cute.

  1. That is awesome about the Crossfit Open! I am sure you will have so much fun!

I thought my little one was going to skip crawling. She was such a good roller and she didn’t seem interested in crawling at all. She started rolling really early, so I thought she would crawl early too. It took awhile, but eventually she became obsessed with trying to crawl, and before I knew it she was crawling all over the place. She wasn’t that interested in walking though until recently (she is 11 months old now). Maybe Quinn won’t crawl?

  2. Congrats on the Brooks ambassadorship–that’s awesome!

L crawled first, but once she got to walking at around a year, crawling was for the birds 🙂 I’ve heard from many specialists by the way though, to make sure a child learns how to crawl eventually because of the fine motor skills & brain development that go along with it. Something just clicks for them apparently when they learn that movement of crawling…just something I’ve heard from people with lots of degrees who study that stuff & thought I’d pass on!

A lake house with friends sounds amazing!!

  3. Hey Tina, I have made comments like this before, but I just wanted to say what a great role model I think you are. I say this because I feel like you project your true authentic self in this blog without apologies, and because that true authentic self is so many positive things – you run your own business and do it darn well (I don’t care what negative things people say about sponsorships, you engage sponsors related to your interests and in doing so you are supporting your family, you go girl), you are pursuing activities that YOU love such as CrossFit, you are prioritizing your own self which is so so so important as a mom, you seem to have a healthy relationship with your hubs, and somehow you manage to keep your chin up while being honest about your health issues. I’m a part time working mom of two (soon to be three) little ones and I love your go-get-em attitude. Keep up the good work.

  4. Crawling is for sure connected to future fine motor skills and reading. More tummy time should help, but so will encouraging it with floor games.

  5. Congrats on entering the Open! I admire your go getter attitude and willingness to try just about anything!! Looking forward to cheering you on! Get it girl!

  6. Congrats on the sweet opportunity with Brooks! They are definitely my favorite running shoe brand by far, and it looks like the other brand ambassadors have so much fun!

Toughest workout this week is probably my 13 miler this weekend for Boston Training. It’s a “down week” in training (last weekend was 16, the week after is 17), and I can’t believe that running a half marathon is considered “rest” 🙂

  7. My toughest workout this week will prob be the one that I have to teach and then take after getting less than 5 hours of sleep. I am on my way back from CA right now and my flight wont touch down until after midnight in Chicago. I then have to get up at 5 to be able to get to work at 6!

Congrats on the ambassadorship! Was it something you had to apply to or did they contact you? I only run in Brooks and love them!

  8. finally signed up for the open after talking about it for waayyyyy too long.. super excited and also pretty damn nervous.. i hear its supposed to be harder this year (even though you can scale)

  9. I did a similar thing when I signed up for an Ironman. I was sitting at my computer then I all of a sudden registered and $800 poorer. Then I had an “oh crap, better get serious moment”.

Ok a lot of those moments 🙂

Our (almost) 7 month old just wants to stand and doesn’t like sitting. She stiffens up like a board. Planks! I wonder if she’ll go right to walking as well.

My coworkers first kids all walked before crawling. They think it’s because everything else exciting is higher up. The second kids had their sibling down low so they were more inclined to crawl. That’s our theory at least…

  10. Hooray for your first babysitter night! I’ve only had a babysitter once (that wasn’t family), and even then she didn’t come until my little guy was asleep! It helps that my guy goes down at 6:45 though.

I thought my son would skip crawling too! He hated tummy time, didn’t roll to his tummy until 7 months. He started pulling up at 8 months and cruising around by 9 months, so we were convinced he’d skipping crawling all together. Then at 11 months, he figured out a one legged crawl and finally started doing it regularly from then on when he didn’t have something to pull up on. He still much prefers to cruise! Everyone said he’d be walking early but he’s 12.5 months and just now taking some steps.

  11. Wow.. I’m impressed you are joining the Cross Fit Open, that’s intense. I work with a trainer once a week.. I look forward to it, I wish I could do it more. I just don’t have the discipline to push myself until it hurts and beyond the way you do and others.

  12. How did the slow cooker pulled pork taco recipe turn out? I followed that link last week when you posted this and was hoping you would refer to it at some point whether it was a keeper or not. Looked interesting but was going to wait on you to try it first.
