One of the best perksΒ about working from home is afternoon cuddle time with my favorite pug. How adorable is this dog?!
Murphy often spends much of the day sitting in my lap while I work at my computer. I’m sure it’s terrible for my back, but he’s so darn cute, I just can’t say no. Plus, he keeps me warm!
Breakfast
I woke up craving a warm, creamy bowl of oatmeal, so I whipped up a batch with rolled oats, a banana, egg whites, hemp milk, ground flaxseed meal, and cinnamon. I also added two spoonfuls of peanut butter to the mix.
Lunch
After breakfast, I headed to NuVal for a few hours. I was there during lunchtime, so I packed a meal to take with me.
Today’s lunch: veggies + roasted garlic hummus.
And a single-serving of sunflower butter.
That I spread on a Protein Pancake.
It was a tasty lunch and much more satisfying than I thought it would be. I always sort of worry about being hungry before a workout, but this one did the trick and kept my stomach happy for hours.
Workout
After NuVal, I headed straight to the gym to get my run on. (I knew if I stopped at home, I wouldn’t want to go!) On the agenda: 12 x 400m with 90 seconds rest in between on the treadmill.
For the rest intervals, I walked at 3.5 mph, which worked out to be approximately 0.10 mile, so I just used that distance instead of trying to do the math in my head for 90-second rest and 1/4 mile intervals twelve different times. The more tired I get, the more difficult simple addition becomes for me! Anyway, here’s how it all worked out on the treadmill.
It took me a little over 50 minutes to finish the 5.2-mile workout.
Snack
After my workout, I came home and immediately took a few swigs of coconut water (to replenish my muscles) and then hopped in the shower. After that, I snacked on a toasted Banana Walnut Paleo Muffin with melted butter and a large spoonful of Teddie peanut butter that went directly from the jar into my mouth.
I’m kind of pooped after that treadmill workout, so I’m debating whether to skip CrossFit or not tonight. Plus, a special visitor is visiting tomorrow, so I should probably stay home and clean the house.
Enjoy the night, friends!

That run sounds awesome! I love giving my all to harder/faster intervals, so that rest sounds perfect. What a great run π
Have fun with whatever you do–I wonder who is visiting….? Another blogger maybe?
Cute pug!!
haha that run looked intense, I’d be pooped too! And I’m the same way, I’m always worried I’ll get to the gym and be hungry before I start working out! I sometimes overeat because of it! I just need to start bringing a banana or something in my bag just in case and not worrying too much about it!
Ooo yay another running workout – adding it to the list!
Isn’t 400m a quarter mile? You said that the plan was to run 12 x 200m – isn’t 200m like .12 of a mile? My math could be off but I just wanted to check!
@claire!: Oops, typo! Sorry for the confusion!
Hey Tina,
I’ve been following your blog for a while now and I noticed you go to NYC a lot! My Fiance and I just moved to Philly and are making our first ever trip to NYC this weekend! I was wondering if you could give us some suggestions on where to eat thats healthy but delicious! Thanks!
Sarah
Here are some ideas: http://carrotsncake.com/tag/new-york-city-restaurants Enjoy your time in NYC! It’s my favorite city! π
If you’re looking for any specific type of food, I live and eat my way around NYC! I’m more than happy to give suggestions! @sarah:
@Ash Bear: thank you so much! We’re just really wanting to get the best experience we can in such a short time frame! We love good American food but I heard there were some amazing Thai restaurants?? Thanks again for all the help Tina and ash!
@Sarah: Sarah, please email me at healthyhappierbear at gmail dot com
For Thai I suggest: Kin Shop (amazing but a tad pricey) or Thai Market or Pure Thai Cookhouse (my co-worker loves Thai Cookhouse)
I am SO jealous of your cuddle time right now!!!
It seems like you don’t eat very much at all. Do you get enough calories for all the workouts you do?
@Erin: Yep! Plenty!
where did you find those single servings of sunbutter?!?!
@Ashley @ My Food ‘N’ Fitness Diaries: SunButter! You can get them on their webite! π
I was thinking “why does she have to clean her house before aunt flo arrives” but obviously I’m way off and you have an actual guest coming. Fun!!
@Ashley @ Coffee Cake and Cardio: Haha! I was just going to say the same thing…I’ve never cleaned for *my* “special visitor”!!
I’m convinced that pugs are THE snuggliest dogs ever. If I’m sitting on my couch with a pile of grading on my lap, my pug will FORCE himself on me. Of course, I can’t resist those big bug-eyes!
I like the single serving sunflower butter! That would be great for my packed lunches. Your lunch looks tiny though…I would be starving!!!
where can you find single serving sun butters? i would love some! would help with portion control since i have none around sun butter :).
I love sunflower seed butter and I love that I can see yours up close and personal enough to see the knife marks in it…okay I need SFSButter right now, too!
I’m jealous of Murphy’s cuddliness! I am stuck home from work because I hurt my back and my dog is being a real piece π Apparently he likes having the house to himself… ha!
I’m not going to lie, one of the things I hate most is leaving in the morning when all I want to do is crawl back in bed with the dogs. They are cuddled up all cute and I just want to snuggle with their fluffiness.
Wow, that looks like a great treadmill workout. I really think those kind of workouts go by faster than long, slow jogs. Also, it’s easier to push myself when I only have to do for a short time before I get a break.
Murphy is so stinking cute! I’ve never been a huge pug person, but seeing Murphy in your blog makes me think I wouldn’t mind having one {don’t tell my current dog that}!
My cockapoo and I have an afternoon nap together whenever possible. He’s the best snuggle buddy! Sometimes I force him to sit on my lap while I do work to warm me up but I’m not sure he’s a fan of it or just does it because he knows I like it π what a good sport!
My dog is a little bit too large to sit on my lap(he’s a lab). He doesn’t mind trying, though!
I’ve never bought Sunbutter. Is it good? I’ve always made mine from scratch since it’s so easy.
Great job on the treadmill workout! I work with a 20lb baby on my lap often so I can relate, it is great to get the mid day cuddles!
I’m in love with Murphy. My day is always made whenever he makes an appearance on your blog. That photo is this post is adorable! That ear…:)
Love the little sun butter to go cup. My dachshund sits on my lap every time I’m on the computer π
So jealous! All I wanted to do today was cuddle with the pup!
What a little cuddle bug. Dogs are the best, don’t ya think? Where did you get those single serving cups of sunflower butter? I need to find some of those pronto, although I have a feeling their idea of a single serving is a little bit different than mine. Mine usually entails the whole dang jar. What can I say? I heart me some flower power butter π
Love these treadmill workouts you are posting. They are giving me some great inspiration for all of my runs which are on the treadmill these days.
Hahaha! I’m sending that link to all of my friends.
That banana walnut muffin looks super good!!! You are such a rock-star, two workouts a day I would definitely be pooped.
I just broke down and bought some single serve Jiff packets because they are so convenient. It would be nice to have the convenience of the to-go packaging without all the Jiff-junk!
Have a great night and give Murphy a big hug!!!
Pug puppies are definitely in the top 3 of cutest puppies but doxies are number 1, sorry. My doxie sits in my lap while I compute with her head on my arm which makes it a little hard to type but so worth it.
I love the way you eat…how you strive to eat really healthy but don’t deprive yourself of a treat every now and then. I tend to be a little more strict with myself and wish I could ease up a little
The USDA chart is a joke. Pretty obvious they get some kind of support from the meat and dairy industries. The Harvard chart is something I could definitely endorse and makes the most sense. something the average person could follow without feeling deprived.
I have the same issue with my pug, Paddington. She is a cuddle bug. There have been many hits to the snooze button because she “begged” me to stay in bed and cuddle a little longer π I posted that same picture of the dancing pug on my blog today, great minds think alike!
Ok so I saw a pug today and immediately wanted to call him Murphy! I’ve never even met your Murphy and for some reason I have this weird thought that all pugs must be named Murphy. I have a pug mix but his name is Buddha. I’ve never seen single serving sunflower butter before…is that available in stores or do you purchase it online?
Those single servings are great..especially for sunflower butter newbs like myself! That way I can try it before ‘committing’ to a bottle!
Those Paleo Banana Muffins look delicious. I must make soon! And topped with nut butter? I like your style.
murphy and you are so cute.
where did you get that awesome mini sun butter?! wowza-need that
Oh man, 12 x 400?? That seems like so much; I would die. But probably because my “rest” time is still running at either 6 or 6.2. Maybe I should actually walk and then give it balls to the wall when I do the 400meter. π
Love those serving size sunbutters – too cool. I am going to check out their website today π Murphy is just so darn cute!!!! I love him!
Gah! Those paleo muffins get me every time!
Mmm muffins! Did you make those with coconut flour?
Just did that crazy killer workout and loved it even if my math was a bit off . Haha I’m training for the Seattle rock n roll so I’m so following in your training footsteps π
Just did this workout and it was great! The 400s at 9.0 definitely pushed me but then it was reassuring to know I’d get a rest, then work my way back up in speeds again. This definitely has left me feeling constantly hungry today-nothing is satisfying me!!!
Thanks for another great workout, Tina
