I’ve come a long way since my early days of working from home. I no longer sit on the couch hunched over my laptop or at the dining room table where I can watch TV. Now-a-days, I work in my office at a desk and onlyĀ sometimes listen to music. I’ve also figured out how to work with a needy dog (aka “attention whore”)Ā by my side all day long as seen here, here, here, and here.
This morning, I embraced my right-brain and rearranged the office. Now that Mal and I both work from home, we need to share the space. I broke up our “super desk” and moved them apart, so now we each have a one to work on.Ā I gave myself the big desk! š
(Please note my very right-brained desk “filled with piles of papers, sticky notes, and business cards!” It’s organized to me! š )
Aww, isn’t Mal’s desk cute?! š
I mostly have the needy dog thing figured out, but I’m a softie when it comes to Murphy. I let sit on my lap while I work, which is not an easy feat for a 29-pound pug. Doesn’t he look uncomfortable?!
Pug pretzel.
Poor guy.
Eventually, he got settled on my lap… at least for a little while.
Not long after Murphy got comfortable, an army of tree cutting trucks pulled up outside on my street and got to work. They were so frickin’ loud!! šæ
Murphy was not pleased.
Despite moving furniture, meeting my pug’s demands, and listening to hours of machinery raucous, I managed to get a lot done. I swear, I’m more productive working from home than in an office!
Snack
Around 11:30, I snacked on a Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Blondie and some VitaCoco coconut water that has been sitting in my fridge since the Healthworks Blogger Bash. Surprisingly, it was still good and tasted alright. (I guess I don’t really like coconut water? š )
I definitely ruined my lunch with this snack because now I’m not hungry at all. Perhaps a workout will get my appetite going again?
See ya for dinner! š

It’s hard for me to work around noise!
Neat office – I wish my working space looked like that….hurrumph.
Cute Murphy pics!
Love the picture of Murphy looking out the window. I thought Mal was a teacher? Did he get a new job?
@Megan: Yeah, I was wondering the same thing? Isn’t he a teacher?
I could never share a desk with my hubby, I would go crazy! I would have to split us up. š
Murphy is way too cute! I work much better in an organized space š Along with my “organized” clutter š
Have a great afternoon!!
there’s no way nate and i could share desks at all…he’s so messy and i’m freakishly organized!
@Julie: I’m pretty sure he is a teacher, but that would mean he’s got the summer off right now. š
It’s official: I’m going to have to make some blondies! My fiance and I both work from home, too and I love it. It took us a while to work out the kinks in our office…and we’re moving soon so it will be a new design at the new place.
Working from home is so nice . You definitely need a desk and proper work space. Glad you had a productive day.
@Megan: @Julie: He’s taking classes this summer.
Poor Mal with that teeny tiny desk!
I LOVE that bookshelf! I need something like that in my office – it’s a disaster!
I couldn’t share either….we’d have to have our own space! We also each have to have our own computers…we couldn’t share!
Love the pics of Murphy!
I’m not a huge fan of coconut water, but I like the flavored kind. Zico has a lime-flavored one that’s really good– you might try that!!
Are you still working in a Nuval office, or do you do that work from home? I’m like you– I LOVE working from home! The more I can do from home, the happier I am!
Oh you make me feel guilty… I recently left my desk to work from the couch… and it makes my eyelids heavy because the couch is…so….comfortable….zzzzz
maybe I ought to get back to my desk š
@Anna @ Newlywed, Newly Veg: I go into the NuVal office once a week just to check-in and day hi to everyone. All of my other work is done from home.
Your office is so nice! I love the dark wood. Also, I don’t like coconut water! Glad I’m not the only one iffy on it. But I do like blondies š
How do you organize your tasks? That is still the one thing I am struggling to figure out.
I feel ya’ on the pug problem! My puggle likes to sit on my lap in the desk chair or behind me (smooshing himself between me and the back) making it impossible to lean back. Oh needy dogs!
I love that Murphy wants to sit on your lap, haha. He thinks he’s a little lap dog!
Poor guy gets the tiny desk, but I’d do the same if mine was a year-round work-at-home situation and his was just for the summer. š
@Christie {Honoring Health}: I’m obsessed with Google Calendar! I put my “bigger” tasks in there as events to keep me on track throughout the day. I also keep a daily handwritten To Do list with “smaller” tasks and cross them off as I do them. Hope this helps!
@Kelly: LOL! He’s the biggest lap dog ever!!!
You have to love how our pets try to thwart our attempts to work š
That desk is huge! I definitely need a bigger one- I’m constantly clearing mine off! My cats always come and walk across the keyboard when I’m typing. Pets just can’t stand not being the center of attention, can they?
My dog is only 17 pounds and she’s a challenge in the home office. Her comfiest lap position eventually means you end up holding her butt… I can’t imagine that with a bigger dog!
I love your office and your home in general. Very good taste with furniture and stuff.
Haha that’s random- I just posted about working from home. I working on the desk-organized office thing š
Still navigating the working from home waters. It probably doesn’t help that working from “home” for the next two months means working from whatever cafe, bookstore or library has wi fi while I’m on tour. People watching makes for some mighty fine distraction!
I LOVE Murphy. And you just made me feel so much better today. We have a dog that is a Pug, Shar Pei, Cocker Spaniel, and Shepard mix. Everyone keeps telling me that she is getting fat but I always defend her and say it is muscle and her body. Hearing that Murphy weighs 29 lbs makes me feel so much better because Piper is right around the same weight. Thanks for easing my fat dog fears.
lol. That’s so funny that you’re talking about loud noise. I work from home, too, and there’s a yard crew about six feet outside my window weedeating. I want to smack them!
I love your pug. I want one, but my hubby doesn’t like them. š
Coconut water is an odd flavor. I know what you mean. It tastes “alright” but it’s not a drink I would reach for repeatedly.
Murph is so cute. I have a second chair that Brooklyn can sit in while I work. He gets lots of pets and attention.
I need an office to work from home in!!! My big leather chair and TV table for the laptop setup is getting old.
That sounds really distracting!
Oh, I’m so envious of your beautiful office! It really is amazing how much more productive you can be when you have an organized space to work in.
I get SO much done when I work from home. I wish it was a full time thing!
I work from home, too, and also have a very needy dog! Luckily, she’s pretty satisfied sitting under my chair all day– I don’t know how you work with your pup on your lap!!
Ugh, it must be going around today, because I have the noisiest street today, too!
What a nice work space! And I love Mal’s little desk! How cute! And yes, a good workout will definitely get you hungry for lunch!
I loved seeing the pictures of your desks! š I have the same IKEA shelf unit for my kids’ toys and Murphy is about the same weight as my daughter who LOVES my lap. It feels like we have similar things going on š
Just think of it this way…you had your snack and your lunch backwards. Eat lunch after you workout. š
Your home office looks great! What a chic and tidy place. I could def get work done there š
Your desks look so modern and organized! Mine’s blue and ugly and attached to a wall. At least it’s spacious š
Haha, I’m sure we would not get anything done if we both would work from home š
i think that’s the only brand of coconut water i’ve tried that i didn’t care for… have you tried any others?
a few weeks ago, my boyfriend took our pit bully to the vet. when he was done getting his xrays taken, the tech came out and asked, “uh, do you let him sit in your lap?” we don’t, but i guess the poor guy was so spooked, he climbed into the techs lap and sat like a good doggy until it was time to be returned to my boyfriend! the dog weighs 65 lbs!
I am with Murphy…the noise would get on my nerves! I hope you have a great afternoon despite the distractions!
you are soo well organized! you definitely have inspired me to make a work space of my own that makes me want to get stuff done! cheers!
Aww, what a big baby! He’s a cutie!
