ABCs of 2013 (What I’m Looking Forward to this Year)

Good morning and happy February! I can’t believe the first month of the year is already over.

Since the new year is moving right along, I thought it would be fun to highlight some of the things I’m looking forward to in 2013 with the help of the alphabet. (Why not, right?)

A – Annual party: Our Pig Party and tiny HUGE party were both huge successes, so we’re already thinking about what to plan for this year.

B – Black Butte Ranch: Mal and I had such a blast last year, we’ll be spending a week at Black Butte Ranch again this summer.

C – CrossFit Open: I’m pumped! I was a new CrossFitter and then had a bad flare during the Open last year, so I’m excited to compete!

D – Date nights: One of my goals for 2013 was to plan a monthly date night with Mal, so I’m looking forward to having some fun times together.

E – Engagements and weddings: Mal and I only have one wedding on our calendar so far this year, but I think there will be quite a few engagements in 2013!

F – Five years with Mal: I can’t believe we’ll be celebrating 5 years of marriage this summer. Time flies when you’re having fun!

G – Grilling in our backyard: After all of the work we put into our backyard last year, I’m looking forward to enjoying it to its fullest this summer.

H – Headstands: I recently learned how to do headstands, so I love practicing them whenever I have a chance. They’re so fun and there will be lots in 2013!

I – Ireland: Mal and I randomly purchased a Groupon-type deal for a 7-day trip to Ireland in April. It’s Mal’s dream to visit, so we are psyched!

J – Juicing: Recently, I’ve been reading up on juicing. It sounds like it might be a good option for helping to heal my colon and provide me with some serious nutrients, so I’m considering giving it a try.

K – Kipping pull-ups (and Thrusters): Ok, maybe I’m not looking forward to Fran Rx, but it’s definitely a top fitness goal of mine for 2013.

L – Learning to make sushi: Learning to make sushi is one of my goals for 2013, so it will most likely become a date night for Mal and me. Two birds, one stone.

M – Mocktails: Since the holidays, I’ve been drinking like a fish (and my colon doesn’t appreciate it), so I’m trying to lay off the booze a little and enjoysome “mocktails” instead.

N – Nephew: I am super psyched to meet my new nephew in June!

O – Oahu: I was invited on a press trip to Oahu by the Oahu Visitor’s Bureau later this month. I was able to coordinate the dates with Mal’s school break, so he’s coming along!

P – Pug therapy: Murphy and I are really enjoying our visits, so I see a lot more of them in our future!

Q – Quotes (in True American): New Girl fans, you’ve seen the cast play that crazy drinking/climb-on-furniture game, right? Well, it’s called True American, and I really want to play it sometime soon. It looks like such a blast!

NEW GIRL: L-R: Nick (Jake Johnson), Jess (Zooey Deschanel), Holly (guest star Brooklyn Decker), Schmidt (Max Greenfield) and Daisy (guest star Brenda Song) play a heated game of "True American" in the "Cooler" episode of NEW GIRL airing Tuesday, Jan. 29 (9:00-9:30 PM ET/PT) on FOX. ©2012 Fox Broadcasting Co. R – Rock climbing: Mal and I are going tomorrow! I can’t wait!

S – Shower: Did you know my sister is having a baby?! I may have mentioned it a few times on CNC already. Anyway, I’m excited to plan her baby shower this spring.

T – Tough Mudder: Some people from my box are getting a team together for Tough Mudder, and I’m going to join them. So pumped for it!

U – Underwater adventures: Our trip to Hawaii includes snorkeling, which, of course, will be an adventure for me since I’m scared of the ocean sharks.

V – Volcanic tuff cone: Our trip also includes hiking Diamond Head, which is a volcanic tuff cone on Oahu. It looks so cool, and I’m excited!

W – The Walking Dead: It returns on February 10th! Can’t wait!

X – X-rated Jokes: I’ve recently fallen in love with Tosh.0, which is hilarious and full of x-rated jokes.

Y – Yoga: Specifically hot yoga in the winter. Love it.

Z – ZOOMA race: I’m joining some blog friends in Annapolis for a girls’ weekend and race with ZOOMA in June. It’s going to be fun!

Question of the Day

What are you looking forward to in 2013?

P.S. Loved this post and just wanted to share: Why CrossFit Ruined My Life.

  1. A lot of my friends did a Tough Mudder last year and they want me to do it, but I’m terrified! I don’t have to cut my legs! Ice water and electric shocking just doesn’t sound fun to me. yikes

  2. ommmmahhgoodness Ireland! I was just telling my husband last night that we have to go there someday~someday… 🙂 And I think it’s a good thing you guys are having monthly date nights! “Dating” while being married is so so important and helpful to the relationship.

  3. In 2013 I look forward to turning 23, moving home to Massachusetts!! (at the end of March), spending time in Cape Cod this summer, and going to one of my best childhood friend’s wedding in June.

  4. I did a Tough Mudder, it’s not as scary as it sounds. I could only do 5 pushups, and no pull ups when I did it. I was and am not a cross-fit guru like you  However I could run 10 miles and that was the more important thing because of the time of year I did it. It was in the low 40’s and the water was chilly. I had never felt what shock is until then. I couldn’t breathe. Then you had to run to keep warm. They soaked you through the whole course. But the comradery is so prevalent that I was greatly helped and gave as much help as I could through the whole course.

PS just run through the “electro shock therapy” obstacle, everyone who entered with trepidation slowly got shocked a lot. Those who ran through (Like me) didn’t get shocked at all. JUST GO FOR IT! 

Good luck, have fun, show off your battle wounds, they are awesome!

  5. Oahu is AMAZING! You are going to love it. So far it’s my favorite place on earth. And….thanks for telling me the New Girl drinking furniture game is real! I was talking with my husband the other day wondering if it actually was a game or if it was made up for the show!

  6. Ireland picture is where I got engaged 2years ago at the cliffs, make sure you go to dingle and kinsale- kinsale s like Newport they actually have Newport signs there! We drove the entire country it was amazing! I have a ton of b and bs and restaurants if you need help. Frommers book wa great and very helpful

  7. Wow … Sounds like you have a great year planned. You’ll love Annapolis in June … Not too hot … can’t guarantee anying about the humidity though :). If you get a chance, go to downtown Annapolis by the docks and get ice cream from Storm Bros. It’s the best there. Also if you’re looking for a gret place to eat with some yummy drinks, try Pussers Carribbean Grille. I thought about doing Zooma in Annapolis but the idea of running 13.1 miles makes me very very nervous. I’m a 5k kinda girl :).

  8. Are you going to do a meet up in Oahu?? I live here and I’d love that! Also, my husband and I go to Crossfit Kailua. You should try to come out for a WOD 🙂

  9. We went to Oahu (and Maui) for our honeymoon! I’d recommend doing Diamond Head (most likely the location for your linked picture), Pearl Harbor, and getting banana pancakes with Macademia nut sauce at Boots and Kimos! Ah-mah-zing! Sounds like a great 2013!
I’m looking forward to spending some of my summer in Oxford England working on my PhD research.

  10. Sounds like it will be a great year! Our goal is to get my husband colon cancer-free this year, he was diagnosed in December and just began treatment…and then we look forward to getting back to all the fun things we enjoy doing!

  11. My trip to Austin, TX and I’m actually here and so pumped! I tried my first CrossFit class and pumped about that as well. In 2013, I’m also looking to travel more; be more social; adventurous; and let my guard down a tad bit more. 🙂

  12. Looking forward to my sister’s baby shower, the arrival of my nephew, and the 28 mile super hike I am doing in September!

  13. I was lucky enough to live on Oahu for several years abd know you’re going to love Hawaii. You MUST take the opportunity to do a sunrise run around Diamond Head. Head around the back side of the mountain and the second half of the run takes you right along a cliff overlooking the beach. Simply amazing.

  14. So excited that your visiting Ireland. Im Irish (but in NZ) so if you have any questions; drop me a message…i’d be happy to give you tips/recommendation son wheres good to visit. 😀 Cannot wait to read the blog on it! Always nice to see home through the eyes of someone else 😀
