Good morning!
It’s time for another A New Day In The Life post. I originally planned to write one per month as a way to remember Quinn’s first year, but somehow I missed March. I guess it was a busy month, but isn’t that what happens with the baby book too? My sister told me she stopped writing in Matthew’s around 10 months, so maybe that’s it? I dunno. But, here’s a peek inside our day yesterday!
5:35 AM – Murphy finishes his breakfast, so he comes back to bed, which involves walking all over me until he’s comfortable. I try to go back to sleep, but I’m wide awake, so I get up.
5:40 AM: I say good morning to Mal. He’s listening to a podcast, so I check my email, play Instagram, and read blogs.
5:55 AM: I pour myself a glass of OJ mixed with collagen and water. (The collagen is for potential gut healing.) I drink it while replying to emails on my laptop.
6:30 AM: I make breakfast, which is a big bowl of oatmeal with a tropical fruit puree (I made some for Quinn yesterday), ground flaxseed, chicken sausage, and apple butter.
6:40 AM: Mal brings the baby monitor into the kitchen to show me how cute Quinn is being. Apparently, he just woke up and he’s closely examinng the bumpers on his crib. After that, I go in and wish him a goooooood morning! I change his diaper and then we say good morning to Dad and Murphy.
6:50 AM: It’s breakfast time for Quinn. I give him a mini almond butter and apple butter sandwich and he gobbles it up. He’s bouncing around in his chair because he loves it so much. I start eating my breakfast. Mal leaves for work.
6:55 AM: Quinn and I eat breakfast together. I realize the house is super quiet, so I turn on the TV for some background noise. Quinn is done with his sandwich and wants his bottle, so I put one together for him. While we eat, we talk about the dining room light, practice waving, and I tell him about what we have planned for the day.
7:00 AM: I finish eating my oatmeal, but Quinn still has about half of his bottle left, so I unload the dishwasher and clean up the kitchen. Murphy babysits while I am away.
7:15 AM: I smell something funny when I sit down with Quinn again, so I change his diaper. Breakfast intermission.
7:20 AM: I feed Quinn pureed mixed veggies. After we finish, Quinn is totally content playing with the spoon and the other toys on his tray, so I make him another puree. I alternate fruits and veggies, so the next one is banana-blueberry-peach.
7:30 AM: Quinn is messy, messy, messy after breakfast, so I clean him up and change his clothes. I bring him into the living room and give him some toys to play with while I clean up breakfast.
7:35 AM: I start this post while watching Quinn play with his activity table.
7:40 AM: Quinn wants to walk, so we use his walker and cruise all over the house with pit-stops at Murphy’s water bowl (Quinn’s favorite) and to open drawers and cabinets.
8:00 AM: Iced coffee time! We take a quick trip to Marylou’s.
8:20 AM: We return home. Quinn plays for a little bit, but then he starts to rub his eyes and get a little cranky, so I put him down for his morning nap. He goes right to sleep. I head into the kitchen to do some meal prep. I make Breakfast Potatoes with green pepper and onions, Sweet Potato Wedges, and roasted Brussels sprouts.
After food prep, I do a bunch of random stuff around the house: I work on this post, reply to emails, clean out my purse, register for babysitting at KFIT, take the roasted veggies out of the oven and pack them up in Tupperware, clean up the kitchen, get dressed for the gym, and order some stuff from Amazon.
10:00 AM: I hear Quinn chatting away in his room, so I head in and see him SITTING up. Well, hello, Quinn! It’s the first time he’s done this, so I snap a picture and send it to Dad.
10:05 AM: I notice that Quinn’s clothes are wet (diaper leak), so I change him into a new outfit.
10:10 AM: Time for second breakfast! Quinn eats banana slices, more mixed veggie puree, a bottle, and some oatmeal. I try a snickerdoodle Complete Cookie and, holy cow, it’s delicious. (I got it from the Vitamin Shoppe yesterday. It’s high in protein, vegan, and non-GMO.) It reminded me of a cinnamon Pop Tart, which I used to eat every morning all through middle school and high school. I seriously loved them, so, not surprisingly, I was pretty obsessed with this cookie. It actually might taste better than a Pop Tart because it was thicker and had cinnamon-sugar on top. For real. I planned to eat only half of it, but it was so amazing, I ended up eating the whole thing. Holy yum!
10:45 AM: We finish eating second breakfast, so I get us ready to go to Fit Factory, a new-ish gym in the area where both Mal and Kerrie have been working out on occasion. Both of them have raved about it (it has CrossFit, Body Pump, spinning, yoga, and more), so I wanted to check it out. You can get a free pass online, so I signed up for one and took Quinn with me since Fit Factory has babysitting too.
11:00 AM: We drive to Fit Factory.
11:20 AM: We arrive at Fit Factory. I bring Quinn to daycare, get a tour of the facility, run 8 miles on the treadmill, pick Quinn up from daycare, and then drive home.
1:15 PM: We arrive home. Quinn falls asleep in the car on the drive home, so I move him from his car seat into his crib. I guess my transfer was unsuccessful because he wakes up about 5 minutes later. I change his diaper.
1:20 PM: Time for lunch! Quinn has roasted sweet potatoes, chicken, and a bottle. I ate leftover Chicken Ole with brown rice and broccoli. I made a protein shake while Quinn took his 5-minute nap, so I finish that too.
2:00 PM: We finish lunch, and I really want to take a shower because I’m hanging out in super sweaty clothes. I move Quinn’s ExerSaucer into the bedroom, pop him in it, and then take a quick shower.
2:15 PM: Playtime. Diaper change. More playtime. A lot more walking. (Have I mentioned this kid loves to walk?)
3:00 PM: It’s nap time for Quinn. Meanwhile, I work on this post and reply to some emails.
3:30 PM: Quinn wakes up and then it’s snack time. We eat rice Chex. Quinn also has a piece of whole wheat bread with fig butter (from Trader Joe’s) and a bottle.
4:15 PM: We do some more playing and walking around the house. I throw some chicken breasts in the oven for dinner. (Mal has a school event later in the evening and needs to eat early.)
4:45 PM: Mal comes home. We catch up about our days.
5:15 PM: Mal plays with Quinn while I walk Murphy.
5:35 PM: Murphy and I return home from our walk. I feed him dinner. I also put a load of Quinn’s laundry in the wash.
5:45 PM: Mal eats dinner while I change Quinn into his PJs and overnight diaper. Then, we join Dad for dinner. On the menu: Baked chicken breasts with roasted Brussels sprouts, Sweet Potato Wedges, and brown rice. Quinn also has a bottle and some banana-blueberry-peach puree.
6:00 PM: Mal leaves for his event. Quinn and I finish up dinner.
6:30 PM: Time for books! We cuddle on the couch and read a bunch of books before bed.
6:45 PM: After we read books, I put Quinn to sleep. He’s exhausted after not having his usual afternoon nap, so he goes right down. I switch Quinn’s laundry to the dryer and then put in another load of our stuff. Then, I pour myself a glass of wine and nuke a Quest Bar for dessert. I lounge on the couch.
7:00 PM: I make Quinn a veggie puree for breakfast tomorrow morning. This one is kale-broccoli-carrot-peas.
7:05 PM: I work on this post.
7:30 PM: I fold laundry while watching TV (Married at First Sight – season two).
8:45 PM: Mal comes home. We hang out and chat.
9:00 PM: I get ready for bed, finish this post, and then read for a bit.
9:30 PM: Lights out.
The end.

OMG. Quinn is adorable π
I love how you feed Quinn such healthy foods. Great way to get kids started eating good food.
Quinn is seriously the cutest! It’s so amazing to see him cruising all over. He’s gonna be running all over soon!
I’m glad to know I’m not the only one in bed by 9:30 at night! π
Tina, Quinn is so adorable! Did you do any sort of sleep training with him? If you did, how old was he when you started and do you have any tips? Thanks!
I love the lemon poppyseed flavor of those protein cookies!
Oh I wish I could get to bed earlier! I am usually up until 11pm or 12 and then the baby wakes sometime around 3-5 am. Oi.
That is a BUSY day! Wow!
That is the cutest picture of Quinn!! I bet that made Mal’s day π I love seeing these day in the life posts.
Love the pictures of Quinn! He just puts me in a good mood π My youngest is turning 4 this month and I miss those baby days! And the high chair and bibs, just the sweetest π
quinn is so cute!! I cannot believe how much you get done in a day. I always feel like I don’t have time to make food, blah blah blah, but then I read this and realize that if you can make tons of food and baby puree… I can feed myself healthy things too π
Wow, he looks so grown up sitting up in his crib π
Sounds like a good day. I love Quinn and Murphy they both crack me up! I had that same brand of cookie but I had the chocolate chip one and I wouldn’t recommend it. Maybe bc I have high standards for my chocolate chip cookies, but this one didn’t cut it for me. I bet the snickerdoodle one wouldn’t be too bad though.
I love your DITL posts as my nuggo is a few months younger than Q and I feel like I can get a little glimps into the fun to come. Thanks for always sharing!
Mal is at school a long time- does he coach or tutor after school?
He often goes to the gym after school. Γ°ΕΈΛβ
That cookie looks amazing! Quinn is adorable!! π
I’m exhausted! lol But it looks like you have a good schedule and system down and are good at multi-tasking!! π
Sounds like an awesome gym!!
So you went to the new gym and had to hop straight on the treadmill? Too bad you couldn’t have popped into BODYPUMP! My favorite class! In fact, I just taught it last night. Great day in the life post, Tina. Lots of eating and running after little Q. π
That looks like a nice gym. I don’t go to a gym usually, but have just paid to drop-in classes. Tonight I try TRX for the first time! π
I love these posts. I was JUST reading through an old one of mine when my daughter was 7.5 months old and WOW, do things change (she’s now 2.5 years). I definitely miss the days of multiple naps in one day haha. This really does sound like a good and productive day! Those are my fave!
OMG, I cannot get over how cute Quinn is. My brothers have red hair so I have a sweet spot for lil gingers <3
Quinn is just getting cuter and cuter!
I would love to hear about your adventures in sleep training (if you even had to do it). I have a 5 month old and he sleeps pretty well, but we still have not transferred to the crib (first time mom alert!). I am ready to try, but so nervous. However, I want that little bit of freedom back in the evening to hang out with my husband and watch a show or whatever:) It’s always helpful to hear others experiences. Quinn is darling!! Looks so happy!
It’s so adorable when little ones start walking everywhere. Every new step is a journey of discovery.
Isn’t this age so fun?! My little guy is walking everywhere too and just took 2 unassisted steps last night! Yay! π
Yay!!! Γ°ΕΈΛβ
Quinn just keeps getting cuter and cuter!
Love how it looks like Murphy is babysitting Quinn for you.
How does the collagen taste? I’ve heard some people saying it’s hard to mask the taste in a drink.
I can’t taste it in the OJ at all. It’s a powder, so it mixes right in! π
@Tina: I’ll keep my fingers crossed that it helps you! I have heard people say it has helped them with healing their gut.
Oh how I miss those days when my LO would eat anything I put in front of her! I hope he stays a good eater for you!
Sounds like a busy day! That’s amazing that you are always able to fit in your workout, and gym daycares are probably big help in that.
And now I’m thinking of a Quest bar. S’mores flavor is one of the best!
We get up and fall asleep at similar times π I think it’s so extra but so cool that you have a baby monitor. Does the light not wake up baby Quinn, though?
What type of overnight diapers do you use for Quinn?
Huggies. We sized up, but still get leaks on occasion.
Haha! I love it- Oh, the glamorous life of a mother! My days are similar, but less productive π
Quinn is the cutest π Did I miss about about making veggie and fruit puree? What do you use to make it?
Quinn is so cute especially in that pic of him in his crib. He looks a lot like his dad. I noticed that you have your crib bumper on the outside of the crib. I always put mine IN the crib (with the pattern facing inside the crib) to protect baby from “bumping” his head on the rails and the ties being on the “outside” out of baby’s reach.
Goodness he is just the cutest, I can’t believe how grown up he is getting!
I cannot remember the last time I had OJ, but that sounds so good! I am not a mom, so I am clueless, but I had no idea that they had VIDEO baby monitors. Wow- go technology. I guess that’s what I get for being a freshman in college.
Are you and Mal still doing crossfit in addition to the new gym?
I am, but he’s taking time off due to an injury.
I LOVE Married at First Sight. My sister and I are addicted What do you think so far? Did you watch last season? It’s like The Bachelor but without all the unnecessary drama (most of the time).
How was Murphy’s hearing test at the Vet appointment? You had mentioned that
you were taking him in due to not responding like he use to do.
Love Murphy
I watched Married at First Sight too! What do you think? So bizarre…
I lovvvee it… probably a little too much! Γ°ΕΈΛβ
He sounds like such a good eater–go Quinn!!
Also, if you’re sick of changing clothes because of food getting on it, I suggest the Ikea (5$ for 2) bibs! They’re like magic.
Oh yes, the baby book! I’m doing my best to keep up with it, but it’s so easy to fall behind. I have a few friends who gave up after a few months. You’re not alone!
Oh wow. I’m exhausted just reading all of that. Each day is like that?! Dang…. Now I feel bad for being exhausted after my days hahaha.
And I’m so jealous of your MaryLou’s!!! I’m from Massachusetts but live in Los Angeles now, and I miiiissss it. Also, I went to daycare in Hingham! You’re like near all my old stomping grounds haha. My friend just opened a bakery in Middleton on South Main St, I HIGHLY recommend it. Also, if you’re ever up near Salem, my cousin owns a restaurant A&B burgers, and they do a kids day on sundays with music and festivities.
Totally did not mean to promote those two hahah I just love what they serve…
How do you make the purees for Quinn, specifically the veggie ones?
They sound great.
Very cute kid!
I use a baby food maker. Here are some details about it! http://carrotsncake.com/2015/03/how-we-feed-our-9-month-old.html
I love the wide range of foods that Quinn eats! What an adventurous boy!
we LOVE married at first sight!
