A Crazy Saturday Night

Mastermind Weekend 1/16

Hey there!

I'm Tina

I’m the owner of Carrots ‘N’ Cake as well as a Certified Nutrition Coach and Functional Diagnostic Nutrition Practitioner (FDN-P). I use macros and functional nutrition to help women find balance within their diets while achieving their body composition goals.

An in-depth, 4-week reverse dieting course for women who feel like their metabolism has slowed down, think they might have hormonal imbalance and can’t lose weight no matter what they do.

Mal has been away at a bachelor party all weekend, so it’s been just Murphy and me hanging out. With the pug’s eyes all gunky and ulcer-y, I decided to have a low-key weekend at home and take care of him the best I could, which meant that we had a crazy Saturday night together.

The main event of my evening was eating a smorgasbord of goodies in front the TV while watching a girly movie. Sounds kind of awesome, right? It was!

Here’s what I ate: Roasted broccoli + Sweet Potato Wedges with peanut butter.

Horseradish pub cheese.

With Pretzel Crisps.

And wine!

The pug enjoyed some “Peanut Butter Murphy Time” with his Kong.

While I ate dinner, I watched Friends With Kids, which equally excited and scared me to have children someday.

I really liked the movie and it kept me entertained the entire time. (I usually fall asleep during movies at home.) Murphy, however, did not appreciate all of the ringing cell phones in it, especially the default iPhone ring. It’s also Mal’s alarm clock in the morning, so Murphy bugs out whenever he hears it.

I ended the evening with a few scoops of Justin’s Chocolate Hazelnut Butter. Delish!

I finished eating dinner around 7:00 PM, and I was sound asleep by 9:00 PM last night, so I woke up starving this morning. I immediately ate a spoonful of Teddie Peanut Butter straight from the jar and then started making My Favorite Breakfast Pancake. I used cashew butter and chia seeds in the mix this time.

I also poured myself an iced coffee in a travel mug, so I could take it with me when I went grocery shopping. I’m generally not a fan of grocery shopping, so I went bright and early this morning to beat the crowds and get it over with. If you’re curious, here’s what I bought at the grocery store today.

Questions of the Day

Have you seen “Friends With Kids”? What’d you think?

What’s your idea of a “crazy” Saturday night?

  1. You’re movie date with Murphy looks like a great Saturday! I LOVE those kind of nights! I have kids, so when the hubs takes them out of town I get a mini vacation at home, and a chic flick is always on the agenda. I never would have thought that staying home by myself would feel like such a luxury 😉 Btw, your honey mustard vinaigrette salad you made last week (which sounded so delish) inspired me to make a similar one that is now my favorite!

      1. @Tina: I made it with brown rice vinegar, honey, stone ground mustard, olive oil, sea salt and pepper. I just threw everything together without measuring, but it’s probably close to 1/2 c BR vinegar, 1 tbsp honey, 2 tbsp SG mustard, 1/4 c olive oil. I’m sort of a throw it together and hoe for the best kind of cook 😉

  2. We rented Friends with Kids last night too, but neither of us liked it. In all honesty, we did turn it off when they made it to the cabin though. I’ve handed over my movie picking responsibility for the next 2 movies after it and What to Expect When You Are Expecting (also a dud in my book lol). I’m glad ya’ll liked it though! The phones were crazy too..Jake reached for his when it vibrated on TV twice lol!

  3. I saw Friends with Kids in the theaters. It wasn’t what I expected. I was expecting something really funny like Bridesmaids, but this was a much more serious movie.

  4. My boyfriend hs been at a bachelor party (in England we call it a ‘Stag Do’!) all weekend, too. I love the opportunity to fall asleep on the sofa, watch what I want and read magazines. Bliss! I did have some girls over for cocktails lastnight, though, but it was still pretty relaxed. Jx

  5. I just watched Friends With Kids last weekend!

I enjoyed it a lot, although I wish Kristen Wiig had a bigger part in it. I thought her comedic talents could have been utilized a little better.

And Jennifer Westfeldt (who I had absolutely no idea is Jon Hamm’s long-time girlfriend) is actually pretty hilarious! I don’t remember her from any other movies, but she’s awesome.

  6. We watched it and enjoyed it! We’re the only ones left without kids in our circle and I am not sure if it made us want them more or push them off even further. It’s nice to play with the other kids and then leave them and come home to a quite house!

  7. Yay for a great Saturday night! I love random meals, especially since they always include all my fave combinations. Right now I’m loving sweet potato wedges with avocado and also a sweet potato/almond butter/ cinnamon combo. Delish!

  8. Sounds like my kind of night!!! So glad you were just able to chill 🙂 Also, now I really want to see that movie (as I sit inside while it rains…sounds like a perfect Sunday afternoon!).

  9. I saw Friends with Kids on the plane on my flight home from my honeymoon. I cried so many times during that movie that my husband kept looking over at me like, “What is wrong with you!?!” I actually really liked the movie a lot, more than I expected to!

  10. *sigh* this post makes me wanna cuddle up and just relax in front ofthe TV! except~we have no cable. hah! And I’m curious about the pub cheese tub! Is it as creamy and heavenly as it looks? The older I get the more I like cheesy foods…:)

  11. Um kinda creeped out because we had semi- identical Saturday nights! Mine included a PB&J on a Joey’s wrap, Barefoot Sweet Red Wine, my dog, Potter and Friends with Kids. I LOVED the movie – the cast includes all of my fave people (esp. Jon Hamm, only wish we saw more of his stunning face/bod). Anyways, big fan and only mildly traumatized by the prospect of having children someday.

  12. We thought we were going to go out last night and then my husband said he was too tired from our relay duathlon! He’s usually the party man so when he volunteers to stay in with me, I always take him up on it.

  13. Glad Murphy is feeling better! Hopefully his eyes get better soon so he won’t have to wear the cone at all.

Sounds like a nice evening. Sometimes it’s nice to just stay in and relax on the weekend. Nothing beats movies, snacks, & alcohol 🙂

  14. Tina, I just wanted to tell you thank you for introducing me to crossfit! I went to my first class this morning and I LOVED it! 🙂

  15. I watched Friends With Kids during a girls weekend last weekend – my friend and I both loved it! I believe someone said it above but I’m got sure if it made me want kids or continue on for a while longer without!

  16. i love Murphy! he is such a wonderful PLUS to your healthy blog! Thank you for sharing his life…my pugs are my babies and it’s nice to see I’m not the only one as crazy about their pugs! 🙂 And love a wine, pug, movie night! Nothing much better!

  17. My “crazy Saturday night” consisted of sitting on the couch with the pups and Hubs until midnight watching the Olympics! I can.not get enough and I’m going to be depressed when it’s over!

  18. That is exactly my idea of a “crazy me time” night…Haven’t seen the movie yet, but I am drawn to it because half the cast is from Bridesmaids (one of my favorite movies) but I have tried “Cupcake” wine, which I love..the Red Velvet is my favorite (I’m partial to red wines in the evening…I’m kind of a weirdo like that 🙂 Murphy looks so happy with his PB Kong.

Sounds like a good time was had by all!!

  19. A crazy Saturday night for me and the hubs is anything that takes us out of the house! We usually like to get to bed by 10 so we can get up early on Sunday and do errands and clean. We’re so awesome, right? LoL

  20. I saw that movie over the weekend too. It’s amazing how much it makes or breaks a relationship. Props to all you moms and dads out there!
