49 Degrees Is Warm In New England

Hey, hey! Happy Friday!

Here’s a little recap of yesterday…

Big ol’ breakfast: Fried egg with homefries, a toasted English muffin with butter, and buffalo sauce. (FYI: I make a huge batch of homefries on Sunday –a mix of red and sweet potatoes + Montreal Steak Seasoning– and then Mal and I reheat them for breakfast all week long.)

After breakfast: Errands with Quinn + White Chocolate Chip iced coffee from Marylou’s.

Second breakfast: Breakfast burrito <— Delicious and on sale right now at Target!

A short while later: Hummus + veggies + rice crackers + olives.

And another snack: Sweet & Nutty Probiotic Trail Mix from my friends at CVS/pharmacy. Please note the tiny hand reaching for it.

Afternoon: Repairman fixing our dishwasher. It broke on Wednesday night and, miraculously, I found someone to come out yesterday to fix it. Thank goodness! I really could not have lived without a dishwasher. (I know… so dramatic.) Growing up, we didn’t have one, so washing dishes is my least favorite thing to do EVER, like ever, ever. Well, ok, cleaning the tub is worse, but not by much. I’m angry even thinking about it. Haha!

Late afternoon: Walk with Quinn + conference call. On the conference call, I said it was ‘warm’ on the South Shore, so I was out walking with my son. When the person on the other end of the line asked me what the temperature was, I told her it was 49 degrees and she laughed and said it didn’t sound very warm. Haha! (She was from Arizona.) Hey, 49 degrees in November is warm. I mean, that’s almost 50 degrees!

Afternoon snack (listen to this): Peanut butter + banana + butterscotch morsels = yummmmmm!

Evening: Massage + Potato and Chorizo Dobladas + wine + American Horror Story + more trail mix.

The end.

Questions of the Day

What is your least favorite chore to do?

What temperature to do consider ‘warm’?

  1. Least favorite chore is vacuuming and cleaning the bathroom (I know it is 2 but I couldnt choose between them both ha!). I live in California so mid 70’s is warm for me! 🙂 I was brought up with a dishwasher but now that I am married we don’t have one. My husband hates doing dishes but I like it sometimes. It allows me to think and relax a little.:)

  2. I’m in Chicago now, and I’d definitely considered 49 degrees warm. Honestly, 40s in general are pretty warm to me at the moment! And my least favorite chore is weeding the yard. I can’t explain it, because I like being outside and all that, but pulling weeds is just tedious and annoying to me.

  3. I am always cold, so even when it is 90 degrees outside, I am freezing indoors. The catch is, I hate to sweat, so I really hate the summertime. My favorite running temperature is in the 40’s though! I really don’t mind it being in the 20’s/30’s as long as those single digits and teens stay away!

  4. I was wondering how you had home fries every morning. Good thinking on making them ahead. Do they still taste decent by the end of the week?
That pick of Quinn with the coffee cracked me up!
I can’t believe it was 49 on the SS yesterday. What a difference–definitely closer to the 30s up here north of Boston. But yes, that’s definitely warm for mid-November!

  5. This day sounds like heaven. Also, you eat like me! Snacking all day. Except I’m not breastfeeding, so I have no excuse for needing the extra calories haha

  6. Bluh! I hate cleaning toilets (we have four! and three little boys using them!!!) and cleaning the showers. I guess bathrooms in general. BUT I love to vaccum. I’m a weirdo. I love Q’s teeny hand reaching for the trail mix. I figured out that when my kids were doing that, they were ready for “people food.” Have you been trying to give him solids? I’ve been waiting for a messy face picture, maybe I missed it!

  7. Ha! I’m from Arizona (Flagstaff) and we’re at 7,000 ft. The high is 45 today and we’re expecting snow! It’s not all desert heat here! 49 IS warm. I’m hoping it maintains that because I am sooo not ready for winter to be here!

  8. Tina, your post titles have been cracking me up lately. 🙂

Also wanted to add: I’ve been reading on and off for years now, and I’ve noticed your growth as a writer recently ”” your voice really comes through in your words, and you’re able to play around with things in your writing to really engage the reader. I’m not sure if this is subconscious or intentional, but just wanted to say I appreciate it.

  9. I’m with you – dishes are the worst. When the dirty ones pile up it’s just that much worse.

I think it might be a degree warmer in DC than Boston but it’s blustery today. If it weren’t so windy, it would be pretty darn nice out. 49 is pretty good! Actually, 49 looks downright balmy once the real cold stuff settles in!

  10. Hi Tina! Anything below 60 is cold to me, and I live in San Francisco. I don’t really like any chores, but I LOVE to tidy. I think the worse would be cleaning the bathroom. That’s just not for me, so my husband does it:) Hope you have a great weekend!

  11. Those breakfast burritos from Target are THE BEST!

I hate vacuuming the dog hair off our couch. We have a leather couch, so we only need to vacuum under the cushions where all the hair gets trapped, but I still can’t stand it! I wouldn’t probably even do it, like, ever, except that my husband’s mom is allergic to dogs.

I’m a Southern Californian, so pretty much anything below about 65* is cold. In my mind, there is NO universe where 49* should be considered warm!

  12. Man I gotta get to CVS to try some of their stuff.
We always had a lot of pets growing up, including 9 cats so my least favorite chore is deep cleaning the litter boxes.
    Enjoy your massage!

  13. I hate washing dishes! And as soon as you have everything washed, there are more dirty dishes. It’s a never ending cycle. I also have unloading the dishwasher. Never fun.

49 degrees is warm! All a matter of perspective! After a long winter of cold weather, the mid 30s and sunny feels warm!

  14. Worse chore ever is dishes for me… but that might be because I don’t scrub the tub very often! haha

I LOVE the tiny hand reaching for the trail mix! Baby hands are just so cute and chubby and lovey
