I have a fun video for you over on YouTube about 4 diet rules I love to break. In it, I get a little heated and ‘soapbox-y’ because it’s a topic that I’m quite passionate about!
When you feel like you’re getting pushed and pulled in a million different directions by every Instagram fitness and health account you follow…
Pause…
Take a deep breath…😮💨
And remember that you don’t have to follow the rules! 💃
There is so much freedom to be found OUTSIDE of diet culture.
After 10+ years of discovering what actually works for my body, I’m here to share with you the four diet rules I LOVE to break.
4 diet rules I love to break
1️⃣ I eat lots of high-calorie foods.
In the past, in my 20s and my 30s, I was all about low-calorie foods, and I automatically thought if it was low-calorie, it was healthy.
Nowadays, I look for foods that are nutrient and calorie dense. I’m talkin’ red meat, salmon, BUTTER. 🧈
2️⃣ I eat after eight o’clock.
I’ll eat whenever I’m hungry. There’s a lot of that diet culture like “oh, don’t eat past seven or eight because you’ll gain weight.”
I don’t think that’s accurate. Overall caloric intake, activity level, hormonal imbalances, and much more go into play with fat gain and loss.
3️⃣ I don’t save splurges for the weekend.
I used to track Monday through Friday and then go off the rails Friday night through Sunday. I was so restrictive during the week that when Friday night came, it was wine, pizza, and nachos.🍕🍷
Little splurges every day are really important because they keep you more consistent with your eating habits.
4️⃣ I love fruit and eat a lot of it.
I also love fruit juice.🧃 I feel like fruit and fruit juice get a really bad rap in the diet culture world. Everybody thinks fruit has too much sugar.
Listen, nobody eating fruit is gaining weight and getting fat because of fruit. 🤦♀️
Fruit is good for you. It has fiber, antioxidants, and phytochemicals, and it is delicious.
I would love to hear what you have to say because, yeah, sometimes these rules keep you in line.
They keep you accountable, and they work for you.
Sometimes they can also be totally crazy and NOT work for you.
