37 Life Lessons

Mastermind Weekend 1/16

Hey there!

I'm Tina

I’m the owner of Carrots ‘N’ Cake as well as a Certified Nutrition Coach and Functional Diagnostic Nutrition Practitioner (FDN-P). I use macros and functional nutrition to help women find balance within their diets while achieving their body composition goals.

An in-depth, 4-week reverse dieting course for women who feel like their metabolism has slowed down, think they might have hormonal imbalance and can’t lose weight no matter what they do.

Today, I turn the big 3-7! We celebrated over the weekend with a small get-together at our house – complete with peanut butter cup cake, presents, and lots of laughs!

While I definitely enjoyed celebrating with my family and friends, I also love using this time to reflect on my years and the incredible life I’ve been given. I’ve definitely learned A LOT in the past 37 years and thought it would be fun to share 37 life lessons (with some favorite quotes mixed in) in honor of my birthday! I hope you enjoy!

Question of the Day

What’s your favorite life lesson?

  1. Nice lesson of life. One of my favorite that is “Worrying is like a rocking chair. It gives you something to do, but doesn’t get you anywhere.” I really like this because this lesson inspires and connect with my life.

  2. Happiest of birthdays, birthday twin!! Man oh man, I could agree with so many of your life lessons. Love this list! Enjoy your day 🙂

  3. Happy birthday!! I hope you had a great time celebrating! Peanut butter cupcakes sound like the perfect way to me! I love this post and all the positive reminders, thanks for sharing!!

  4. If you wait to have children until you can “afford it” you will never have children.
Go for it….they will love you no matter how much money you have or don’t have.

  5. Love this! So many fantastic life lessons, and yes, don’t eat yellow snow. Ha ha. My biggest life lesson is to be present and gratefu where you are and with what you havel. Happy happy birthday!

  6. #37 is for sure a great one! Every time I think about that with my husband, all I can think is “Man, falling in love with him wasn’t some scary, sleepless night, can’t eat, can’t think straight, going crazy ordeal. It was easy!”

  7. Oh my goodness, I love this, especially number 30 from A League of Their Own. My favorite life lesson is to not sweat the small stuff, whether that’s things or people. Life is short and surround yourself with great people who make you happy.

  8. I love this. Can you do a post on whether or not you plan on having another child and what factors played into that decision?

  9. Happy birthday! Love this list of lessons, especially #34. Can’t get too focused on just one thing – if it doesn’t work on, move on to the ‘next letter in the alphabet.” It is really all about trying until something works.

I’m with you on #21 too – iced coffee really does make everything better. Such a small thing but brings me so much joy.

  10. I really needed #2 Accept and Adjust. It made me cry… facing major health issues right now and i have been so frustrated with my body and I need to just accept it and make a new plan for exercising and eating WITH these issues not denying them! Thanks so much!

    1. @Lisa: Also My life lesson is “The victim lists the reasons why he will never succeed…the Victor understands why he must never fail!”

  11. My life lesson is similar to your #18. “Age is a privilege denied by many”. I count my blessings that I’ve made it 35 years and hope to make it another 35+ so when my birthday comes around I have

  12. Happy Birthday! I’ve been reading your blog for years and always love your honest and positive attitude towards life – so so refreshing. #2 Accept and Adjust – so true, everything just gets easier with that perspective!

  13. Happy Birthday!

I love your list. I’ve always lived by the Golden Rule. That’s the first one my mom taught me.

I love ALL of these! I hadn’t heard of some of them… 11, 16, and 34 especially called out to me as ones to add and speak up about!

  15. Happy Birthday!

#11 – so true! I notice this so much lately (the lack of kindness in comments on things) and it makes me so sad. Why do people think that not seeing/knowing the person means they can just say whatever they want?

In any case, thanks for the list. It’s fun to get to know these little things about you.

  16. Those who endure most are rewarded most. (that is from a fortune cookie hubby got years ago).
    Believe in yourself.
    Laughter is the best medicine.

Happy birthday! Here is to 37+ more years on this earth.

  17. Happy Birthday, Tina! I am newish reader so this was fun to read and I liked clicking over to the previous posts to learn more about your outlook on life. And I laughed out loud at the fruit is not dessert part, couldn’t agree more! Hope you have a great day.

  18. Happy Birthday!!
I think #11 is really resonating with me. I’ve been doing some social media cutting and I think you phrased it just right.
My favorite life lesson is that Life Isn’t Fair, anyone who says differently is selling something. (Or is trying to deny their own luck/privilege).

  19. This is awesome.

    “You love who you love.”

“Being a little less perfect makes you a little more consistent.”

“Life is better when you are laughing.”

    Thanks for this <3

  20. Happy birthday! I really appreciate: If ‘Plan A’ fails, remember there are 25 more letters in the alphabet.

  21. Happy belated birthday, Tina! I LOVE this idea for a way to celebrate your birthday, and your list is full of incredible life lessons. I love the fruit is not dessert, iced coffee, and you’re in charge of your own happiness lessons. 100%.

  22. Loved the list so much I made a copy to reference when I’m feeling weak or down. It’s your birthday and we got the gift. Nice! Happy belated birthday, Tina! 🙂

  23. All of these are great and all speak so true!!
A life lesson that’s coming to mind to me right now is…

    Shit happens.
    Everything changes.
    Don’t take it personally.

    😀 Happy belated birthday!
