Good morning! Happy Monday!

Are you partaking in 24 Days of Togetherness? If so and you’re on Instagram and/or Twitter, feel free to use the hashtag #24daysoftogetherness. It’ll be fun to follow along and see what everyone else is doing to celebrate the holidays and togetherness.

On the agenda for today: Buy each other a small gift. I have a couple of ideas for Mal””D&D gift card, a bag of pistachios (one of his favorite foods ever)”¦ things like that””but I want to get him something unique or really random/funny to make him laugh. Any ideas?

On December 1, Mal picked “Write Haikus about one other.” Of course, right? The most random one of the bunch to kick it off! Ha! He didn’t want me to share his Haiku on CNC, but here’s mine:

Why I love you so
You smile with your whole face
You make me happy

We ended up turning our Haikus into a Christmas tree ornament with our poems written on each side. We just used a piece of cardstock and ribbon to make it.

Yesterday, Mal picked “Bake Christmas cookies,” which we were both really excited about. We planned to make cut-out sugar cookies and decorate them with sprinkles.

Well, unfortunately, we ran out of all-purpose flour (we substituted almond meal/flour, which just wasn’t the same) and sugar, so our cookies kind of bombed. The dough was much too sticky to use cookie cutters, so we just made regular round cookies with sprinkles. They still tasted delicious, but they weren’t as fun as we had originally planned. Oh, well, it was still fun to bake cookies together!

This morning’s breakfast was a French Toast Breakfast Scramble with blueberries and almond butter in the mix.

I ended up going back for two more scoops of almond butter. TJ’s raw crunchy unsalted almond butter is where it’s at! YUM!

Question of the Day

What’s your absolute favorite kind of nut butter?

Mine is Teddie crunchy peanut butter, but TJ’s raw crunchy unsalted almond butter is a close second.

  1. We are doing a kid version of 24 Days of Togetherness and today’s is “write letters to Santa.” Over the weekend we did phone caroling to our cousins and ate candy canes. Such a fantastic idea – thanks!!

  2. We are doing the 24 days of togetherness and I tweeted about it. Great idea. I was so surprised that my husband is actually into it 🙂 We “took a family photo” last night. Great idea!

  3. love the 24 days idea – very creative way to celebrate without a ton of money! 🙂 my favorite kind of nut butter is teddie peanut butter. i like the smooth best but i enjoy the chunky as well. they don’t sell it anywhere near me though. sad. thankfully, i can order on their website.

  4. LOVE that almond butter. I just had a scoop (and then some) in my yogurt bowl this morning. It’s a close call between that and the TJ’s Sunflower Seed Butter.
    Have a great Monday Tina!

  5. 24 days of togetherness is such a great idea! It definitely brings the focus to your loved one, instead of the stress that the holidays can sometimes bring with buying gifts and all.
My favorite nut butter is sunbutter! I used to love almond butter, but then got hooked on sunbutter and haven’t looked back since.

  6. AH! My name is also Liz M and I got SO excited when I saw that Liz M won…. and then realized that I am neither married nor have a child, so that comment was definitely not mine. BUMMER!

  7. Mmmmm, Trader Joe’s CREAMY Unsalted for me! I think it’s one of the best almond butter’s I’ve tried. I was devastated yesterday when they were out! I’ll be making a stop this afternoon for some for sure 😉

  8. My fiance and I are doing the “24 Days of Togetherness” too. We got “play a board game” and “make a festive cocktail together” this weekend. This morning, he picked out “give each other massages.” I love this idea and we’re having so much fun with it so far!

  9. I’m a sunbutter girl 🙂 but I do like Smartbalance PB… that’s gotta be my favorite PB 😀

That’s so cute that you guys baked cookies haha I once walked in when my sister and her bf were baking.. it was the most dysfunctional thing ever hahaha but they had fun 🙂

  10. So I’m a little late to the party, but I love this whole “24 days of togetherness” idea! I don’t have a boyfriend or husband, but I love the thought behind it. I may have to do a “24 days of togetherness, with myself” spin 🙂

  11. Exact same almond butter in my cabinet right now, and had a few spoonfuls with breakfast this morning as well! Good to know that the almond flour substitution didn’t work exactly as planned, I’ve wondered about making a GF classic sugar cookie with almond flour. Looks like I’ll have to brainstorm something else! Good thing it tasted great though 🙂

  12. I am love, love, loving reading your 24 days of togetherness posts. What a great idea! Making the Haikus into ornaments was a great idea and something that could become a tradition. Love it!
My favorite butter is almond butter. Like you, I go through about a jar a week!

  13. Totally participating in the 24 days of togetherness! I used alot of the same daily deeds as yours, but changed up a few. We had the Buy each other a small gift yesterday, and I got my husband a back scratcher from Restoration Hardware from the stocking stuffer’s sections. Inexpensive, unique and he loved it. He bought me a beautiful rose! It’s been fun so far…and I really didn’t think he’d be into it!

  14. Thank you for sharing the wonderful idea last week. Decided to run with it and make a Christmas tree on the wall using red envelopes and a big bow on top. Every day we take an envelope off the wall and put it back after reading to keep the festive feeling alive on the wall. Today is “share your favorite Christmas memory.” It’s our first Christmas together and we are loving this Togetherness activity!

  15. I absolutely loved this idea which is why I borrowed it for myself and my fiance 🙂 We each wrote 12 ourselves so that there would be a little element of surprise for both of us. At first I could tell that he was a little hesitant and was just trying to make me happy but now he is the first to ask if we can draw a piece of paper from the Christmas tin first thing in the morning. I have been telling lots of friends and family about this idea as well because I am such a fan! Thanks for sharing!

  16. I loved that crunchy almond butter with flax that was recalled at TJ’s, but I haven’t seen it back on the shelves. Barney’s Almond butter and the chunky peanut-coconut butter from Earth Balance are recent favorites until TJ’s restocks.

  17. Sounds like you’re having a great start to your 24 days of togetherness! Baking cookies with the guy can be an adventure in itself 🙂
As for nut butters, I recently made a batch of homemade peanut butter with just honey roasted peanuts – it’s SO good and need to force myself not to eat the whole jar 😛

  18. I just bought Teddie’s brand for the first time and thought of you at the store this morning haha! I got super chunky and broke right into it when I got home. SO GOOD!!!

I love most nutbutters-sunbutter is delish. Have you ever tried earth balance coconut and peanut spread? That is good too!! Can’t go wrong with coconut and PB combined 🙂

    Have a good day!

  19. We are doing the 24 days of togetherness with our 2 young kids and as a couple. LOVING IT! Huge thank you! Over the weekend we enjoyed hot cocoa and watched a Christmas movie with the kids. The husband and I shared some things we love about our relationship (over some beer and it was so nice!) and made plans for a special date night out. Favorite but butter? Hard to pick! I really enjoy Justin’s Almond butter with a touch of vanilla. Out of this world! Lately I’m addicted to almond butter fudge. That rocks my world 😉

  20. My absolute favorite nut butter is plain ole almond butter, but I really want to try crunchy almond butter. Maybe I’ll go by Whole Foods and pick up what is probably a $10 jar just to try it! The closest Trader Joe’s is like an hour away which stinks.

  21. SunButter Organic is my all time favourite though not technically a nut butter! My favourite nut butter is Peanut Butter and Co Smooth Operator and for almond I’d go Justins Maple…though there is this amazing brand from the Netherlands, iMonk which we can get here, all organic and natural. You’d love the almond butter I’m sure! Something to pick up when you visit next year!

  22. My favorite is absolutely Teddie’s unsalted smooth peanut butter! I haven’t tried the crunchy, but I think I will next time I need peanut butter.
