Good afternoon, friends!

From time-to-time, readers ask me what kind of vitamins and supplements I take, so I wanted share my current routine. I mostly keep things simple and do my best to get as much nutrition as possible from whole foods, but with all of my ulcerative colitis stuff, I also try to fill in the gaps through supplementation. Here’s a quick summary, which I will expand upon below:

DAILY

I’ve taken a multivitamin for as long as I can remember. I took prenatal vitamins before and during my pregnancy and while breastfeeding. After that, I started taking the Radiance Platinum Women’s Multivitamin, which is a plant-based blend of essential vitamins and minerals. It’s USDA-certified organic, 100% preservative-free, and non-GMO, so I know I’m consuming some quality ingredients. I also like that the capsules don’t have a plastic coating on them.

I also take cod fish oil to help fight inflammation related to exercise as well as systematic inflammation related to the autoimmune response in my body. I either take the Fermented Cod Liver Oil from Green Pasture or The Vitamin Shoppe brand. I have both in the house right now and just alternate between the two.

Probiotics. Oh, I’ve been all over the map with probiotics since being diagnosed with UC. Over the years, I tried quite a few (VSL#3, VSL#3 DS, Natren Healthy Trinity) without much success, so I stopped taking them for awhile. However, everything I’ve heard about our gut microbiota supports the use of probiotics, so I hopped on board again with VSL#3 several months ago. I still take it everyday, and I *think* it’s helping to keep me in remission. It’s hard to know for sure being on Remicade, but I like to think it’s doing something.

I realize not everyone needs a heavy-duty probiotic like VSL#3 (it has 450 billion live probiotic bacteria per packet), so if you’re looking to support/improve your digestive health, the Radiance Platinum Probiotic Vegetable Capsules is a good option. It’s a blend of 8 different strains of bacteria (12 billion live bacteria per capsle), 100% preservative-free, gluten-free, dairy-free, and non-GMO. It’s also a lot more affordable than VSL#3 ($19.99 versus $89 for a 30-day supply). Just throwing it out there if you’re looking to get your digestive health back on track.

ALMOST EVERY DAY

Just about every day, I drink a smoothie and it usually includes SFH vanilla Recovery protein powder and/or Radiance Platinum All-In-One Superfood Chocolate Flavored Nutritional Drink Mix. It just depends what my workout was and whether I’m in the mood for chocolate or vanilla.

After a hard workout or long run (anything over 9-10 miles), I will drink a smoothie or protein shake (I like iced coffee + soy milk + protein powder) within 30 minutes or so. If I make a post-workout smoothie, I will almost always add some Radiance Platinum All-In-One Superfood Chocolate Mix in addition to my protein powder. If I’m making a breakfast/snack/dessert smoothie (basically, one not related to exercise), I’ll skip the protein powder and only add Radiance Platinum All-In-One Superfood Chocolate Mix (unless I’m just not in the mood for chocolate).

The Radiance Platinum All-In-One Superfood Chocolate Mix is an all-in-one superfood with antioxidants from fruits and vegetables as well as vitamins and minerals to support good health and well-being. (I love that it has so many of the B vitamins in it!) It’s also wheat-free (no funky wheatgrass taste), egg-free, and doesn’t have any added sugar. And, best of all, the rich chocolate taste is delicious. I usually mix it into smoothies, but you can also mix it with water or your choice of milk.

A FEW TIMES PER WEEK

I take Radiance Platinum Iron a few times a week. I get my blood checked every 8 weeks before my Remicade infusions, and I’m usually borderline anemic, so I just recently started taking regular iron supplements. I try to fill my diet with iron-rich foods, so I only take them a few times a week. Plus, the Radiance Platinum All-In-One Superfood Chocolate Mix has 100% of your DV of iron, so I don’t need to take them all the time.

I also wanted to mention one more product from the radiance PLATINUM line because I’m really digging it lately: Radiance Platinum Tea Tree Oil.

SAMSUNG CSC

Ever since I was pregnant, I started to pay much more attention to the beauty products that I use. I still use Belli Fresh Start Pre-Treatment Scrub and recently switched to Andalou Naturals for a few products, so the Radiance Platinum Tea Tree Oil fit in nicely as my new acne treatment. This one is 100% pure Australian oil. It helps clear up pimples without drying out my skin like some of the harsh acne treatments on the market.
