Do you remember my friends Chad and Lindsay? Chad has Cystic Fibrosis and underwent an emergency lung transplant last July. Since then, he and Lindsay, his fiancé, have been in and out of the hospital and dealing with a roller coaster ride of ups and downs related to his recovery.
Just before the holidays, it looked like things were getting a lot better for Chad (he even left the hospital and went home for a little while), but recently things have taken a turn for the worse, and Lindsay contacted me the other day saying how scared she was for Chad.
Last Saturday, he suffered a seizure and his heart stopped. The medical staff was able to revive him, but now he’s sedated on a ventilator and his doctors aren’t sure if there’s anything more they can do for him while still preserving his quality of life.
From Lindsay yesterday”¦
Today, Chad remains heavily sedated and on the ventilator. The transplant and medical teams have come to the conclusion that the seizure was caused by rapidly changing carbon dioxide levels and respiratory failure. CT scans show that his lungs are still very badly damaged and have improved very little since beginning this treatment back in February. He is in acute kidney failure again as well.
This morning the team did a bronchoscopy to look inside his lungs and take biopsies of the tissue to test one more time for any sort of rejection. Tomorrow the team, his family, my family, his close friends, and I will all sit down to talk about where we can go from here, if anywhere, and what would be best for Chad.
You guys have already done so much, especially those of you who left uplifting comments on CNC and made donations to Chad’s lung transplant fund in the past. Now, Lindsay and I are simply asking for your prayers, positive thinking, and well wishes for Chad. He needs all the love and healing energy he can get right now, so please keep him in your thoughts and prayers.
