My first day of 2012 involved family, football, and champagne. Not a bad way to start of the year, right?
My in-laws came over just before the kick-off of the Patriots game. They brought a bottle of champagne to celebrate the new year, so we cracked it open and toasted to 2012. All of us had a pretty tough 2011, so we were really happy to ring in 2012 together.
After being away from home for a week, the food situation in our kitchen was really pathetic, but I still managed to come up with some snacks to munch on during the game.
Pistachios, garlic hummus, and Everything Pretzel Crisps did the trick.
Our CrossFit was closed today because of the holiday, so Mal and I did our own Workout of the Day (WOD) in our basement like we did last week.
10 rounds for time:
- 10 Push-ups
- 10 Sit-ups
- 10 Mountain Climbers (10 each leg, 20 total)
- 10 Air Squats
We both thought the last WOD that we did at home was a little too easy, so we added in some Mountain Climbers, which ended up being a killer ab combo with the Sit-ups. I finished, huffing and puffing, in 12:54. I’m fairly certain my abs will be sore tomorrow.

For dinner, I had a big salad topped with a Dr. Praeger’s veggie burger. While it cooked in the toaster oven, I made my salad and snacked on a bunch of carrots.
In the mix: romaine, tomatoes, carrots, broccoli, Lime Leaf noodles, walnuts, feta, balsamic vinegar, and truffle oil. The truffle oil was easily the highlight of this evening’s dinner. Holy amazing.
Instead of pouring the truffle oil over my salad, I used an oil mister to evenly and lightly spritz it, which saved me calories and fat and didn’t waste any of my beloved (and super expensive) truffle oil.
After dinner, I finished off the last three chocolates from our Advent calendar for dessert. Mmm!
