Awhile back, Mama Pea asked me to be part of her official blog tour for her new book Peas and Thank You: Simple Meatless Meals the Whole Family Will Love. Of course, I jumped at the chance. A few weeks later, her publisher sent me her new cookbook to preview.

When the package arrived at my house, I enthusiastically ripped it open. I even said “YESSSS” out loud and then did this weird Mary Katherine Gallagher-like jump and held the book over my head. I have no idea how it happened, but I was psyched to have Mama Pea’s cookbook in my hands.

I’ve been reading the Peas and Thank You blog for a long time now. It’s one of my favorites, and I read it everyday. Mama Pea’s posts are witty, cleaver, and absolutely hilarious (I love her one-liners about Pea Daddy and Pea Kitty), and her recipes are out of this world. Her new cookbook is no different.

The Peas and Thank You cookbook is FULL of amazing recipes”” and they’re really not just for vegans or vegetarians. The recipes look and sound so delicious, you won’t even realize that they are meatless. Even Mal was excited about a number of them, including Thai Veggie Burgers, Indian Shepard’s Pie, Lulu’s Mac and Cheese, and Pea Daddy’s Jambalaya.

I, of course, flipped immediately to the dessert recipes. In fact, within minutes of having the Peas and Thank You cookbook in my possession, I found myself in the kitchen whipping up a batch of Cutout Sugar Cookies. They were so easy to make and tasted ridiculously good. I also loved that they didn’t require a huge list of hard-to-find ingredients. I had all of them in my house already. Ok, I didn’t have any vegan margarine, but regular butter worked just fine! Mal and I finished the entire batch of cookies in less than 24 hours.

I love, love, love Mama Pea’s cookbook. I can’t wait to make more recipeas from it.

Three Questions Thursday

It’s Three Questions Thursday again! Here are this week’s questions!

I’m training for my first marathon and would love to see what training plan you’re following for your second marathon! would you be able to post it or send it to me?

Unfortunately, I don’t have my marathon training plan all laid out in one place. My running coach sends me my workouts week-by-week, so I do them as I get them. However, if you check out my training page that includes my DailyMile profile, you can get an idea of what type of mileage I am doing and when. You can also check out my TNT Training Schedule, which has all of my workouts from my first marathon.

I am in the market for a Garmin and was just wondering which model you use and if you are satisfied with it. Has it helped you in your running? Do you mind me asking where you got yours and how much it was? The 305 is on sale at Amazon right now for $130 and am thinking of biting the bullet.

I own the Garmin 305 and I LOVE it! Check out my Garmin 305 review. I bought mine from Amazon, but I can’t remember how much I paid for it. I actually think I paid a lot more than $130, so I think that’s a pretty good deal. Having a Garmin for my half and marathon training has been essential. I don’t think I could do it without one!

I gain muscle in my legs EXTREMELY easily, and I’d prefer to keep them leaner than bulky. During the Body Pump classes I have taken, I have omitted using weights for squats/lunges because I definitely don’t want my legs any bigger (bulky muscle). What are your thoughts on this?

As far as bulking up, I don’t think you have anything to worry about– unless, you plan on taking supplements or steroids! Muscles get big because of the presence of testosterone. Women generally have low levels of it, so they don’t tend to bulk up from lifting weights. Plus, Body Pump uses low weight and a ton of reps, which won’t give you those big, bulky muscles. Personally, I’ve seen my legs slim down and get more defined since starting to take regular Body Pump classes, and those two tracks are always my heaviest weights of the day.
