Today was a good day. I’m not back to 100%, but, man, I feel a zillion times better. In fact, I felt so good today, I decided to do some shopping! Shopping > couch.
Because I’m a BananaCard holder, I received a special $15 off birthday coupon, which expired today, so I went to cash it in. I spent a good 30 minutes wandering around and trying on a few things, but nothing really jumped out at me. I thought about just buying something and getting my $15 worth, but I honestly don’t need any more stuff, so I left the store without getting anything. (Who am I?!)
Whole Foods is right near Banana Republic, so I popped over (I just typed ”˜pooped over’) to pick up a few items. The first of which was nutritional yeast, which I’ve been meaning to try, but never could find at the grocery store.
FYI: Nutritional yeast is in the bulk food section at Whole Foods, and it’s super affordable!
Nutritional yeast is the bomb! At first, I was, like, ”˜What the hell is this stuff? It looks like fish food.” But, as soon as I tasted it, I was in love. It sort of tastes like burnt cheese, but in flake form. I can definitely see this stuff becoming a staple in my diet.
At Whole Foods, I also picked up another Naked juice, Glutino gluten-free pizza crusts, a sweet potato, a gluten-free cupcake, and Galaxy Rice Vegan Cheddar, which is a disgusting cheese-like substance. I ate one bite and was instantly shocked by its nastiness. It didn’t even taste like cheese!
Lunch
I planned to use the fake cheese on pizza for lunch this afternoon, so I thought if it melted, it would maybe taste better. Well, it didn’t melt at all and tasted just as terrible. I actually ended up taking it off my pizza and throwing it away. I later threw the entire block of “cheese” in the trash. It was totally inedible to me.
I was going to buy the Daiya brand cheese to make my pizza, but I just couldn’t get myself to pay the price. I now realize that I should have spent the extra $1.50 because I totally wasted my money.
I’m so turned off by fake cheese now, I don’t think I’ll ever buy it again. Until I get better, I’m sticking to nutritional yeast.
For the sauce on my pizza, I spread TJ’s jarred Bruschetta, which was an great idea because it tasted fantastic and added a ton of flavor to the pizza. I also topped my pizza with nutritional yeast because it rules.
I also ate a side of mashed sweet potatoes with lunch.
Dinner
Dinner was a repeat of lunch minus the nasty rice cheese. This pizza was amazing””super quick to make and delicious! I plan to eat it even when I’m well again!
After dinner, I enjoyed half of my gluten-free cupcake, which was pretty darn tasty. It wasn’t like a ”˜real’ cupcake, but the frosting made up for it. I don’t want to get too cocky with my food choices, so I only ate half and saved half for tomorrow.
Have you ever tried fake cheese? What did you think of it? Yay or nay?
