Last week, LauraJane reflected on her “healthiness journey,” and realized what a significant role blogging and reading blogs has played in that journey. She then wrote post called Five Bloggers That Have Changed My Life. One of the blogs she mentioned in her post was my marathon recap. Similarly, a number of posts have inspired me and stuck with me over the years, so here are the blog posts that have changed me. Thanks for the inspiration, Laura Jane!

The New ELR (Don’t Leave Me, Please)

Back in the day, the majority of “healthy living blogs” were all the same: three posts a day, documenting daily eats and workouts. Jenna was one of the first bloggers to break the mold by announcing a major shift in her blog. Jenna stopped boring her readers with her “daily turkey sandwiches,” and started to share more of her recipes and random food musings. Her post showed me that a blog can change and, as long as the author is passionate and authentic about what she is writing, the blog will remain successful and the readers won’t leave. Since then, CNC has focused less on daily meals and more on sharing my life (and what makes me unique) with readers.

Rachel Wilkerson’s Fourth Rule

This post is all about doing what’s best for you and owning it. When you start owning your decisions, you don’t need to explain yourself or feel guilty about them. As Rachel writes, “Your explanation can always be that you’re just feeling and doing what you know is right for you in that moment. Plain and simple.” Rachel’s Forth Rule helped me learn how to live my life without feeling like I need to justify my actions or apologize for my decisions. Because of this post, I’m a more confident and positive person.

Disney Marathon Race Recap

Reading Caitlin‘s recap of her first marathon made me so happy for her, but, at the same time, I couldn’t help but feel a little bit jealous. Running a marathon was at the top of my life goal list, but I wasn’t sure if I could really run one myself. Instead of feeling envious of Caitlin, her success made me want to achieve my own goal even more. A few months later, I registered to run my first marathon and completed it. Booyah.

Boston Marathon Race Report: Get over it and go.

This race recap is easily the most inspiring running post I have ever read. Long story short, AngryRunner overcame an injury to PR at last year’s Boston Marathon. Instead of feeling sorry for herself and dwelling on an injury, she got her head in the game and ran a great race. The last line about her PR is my favorite part of the post: “I can tell you that this would NOT have happened had I let the fear of what *could* happen win. I was prepared for the worst, but somewhere under all of the layers of anxiety”¦I didn’t expect the worst.” During races, I’m sometimes too easy on myself when I’m tired and exhausted, but this post is a constant reminder that running is as much mental as it is physical.

Today: My dog is The Biggest Loser.

Elizabeth‘s dog, Clark, was feeling a little under the weather, so she brought him to the vet for a check-up. When the doctor examined Clark’s abdomen, his belly made some loud crackling noises. It turns out it was a huge bubble of gas, or as the doctor put it, “Clark has a giant fart brewing.” If that isn’t funny enough, the rest of the post is hysterical. I laughed so hard, I cried.

Ok, so I bet you’re wondering how a blog post about a dog fart could change my life. Well, this post was a wake up call for me with regard to the blogs that I read on a regular basis. At the time, my Google Reader included a number of blogs that were negative and made me unhappy, but, for some reason, I kept reading them. When I found myself cracking up about Elizabeth’s post, I realized I only wanted to spend my time reading blogs that made me feel good and had something positive to offer their readers. Since then, my Reader is a much happier place.

Last Night’s Dinner

Before dinner last night, Mal and I took Murphy for a special birthday car ride to the pet store to buy more of his dog food. We were just about out of it, so it was a good excuse to take Murph for a ride in the car, which he absolutely loves.

We almost bought Murphy a new Puppia harness and leash, but we decided to wait until his current harness and leash really need to be replaced. Plus, they were wicked expensive! It was a little over $50 for both! It looks like Murphy needs to start saving his doggie allowance.

At home, Murphy enjoyed chewing on a bully stick to celebrate his second birthday. Obviously, he loved it.

For dinner, I had TJ’s Pork Gyoza with roasted broccoli and cauliflower on the side.

I doused everything on my plate with TJ’s Gyoza Dipping Sauce, which is so amazing– on gyoza (obviously), but also roasted veggies.

For dessert, I enjoyed a Go Big Oat Chocolate Hazelnut Cookie, which was delicious. It had lots of chocolate chips and hazelnuts throughout.

Breakfast

This morning’s breakfast was the usual: almond butter on toast with banana slices and an iced coffee with soy milk. It never lets me down.
