Do you guys remember Get In Shape Girl from the 80’s? It was a series of audio tapes and exercise equipment for girls (and boys). I had 2 or 3 of the Get In Shape Girl sets, and I’d do them out in the backyard. (I was sooo cool back then! 😉 ) I remember having the wristbands, headband, jump rope, plastic pink ankle weights, and (my favorite) rhythmic gymnastic ribbon on a stick. I would play with that thing all of the time! I even remember fighting with my sister over it!

Breakfast

I’m loving the addition of cereal in my oats. The added texture gives my oats a much heartier feel to it. And, of course, I love the extra crunch.

In the mix today: oats, Peace cereal, ground flaxseed meal, strawberries, and peanut butter.

With iced coffee and a multivitamin…

We ran out of agave nectar this morning, so I added extra chocolate soy milk to my iced coffee to sweeten-it-up. It tastes like a chocolate milkshake! Mmmmm!

Yoga Challenge: Day 31

Well, guys, I was unable to complete all 31 days of yoga practice during the Yoga Challenge. At first, I was a little bummed that I didn’t completely devote myself to the Challenge, but even practicing most days of the month made me realize that I actually like yoga. And, each time I do it, I find myself getting better at it. Near the end of the Challenge, for instance, I found the poses to be easier and noticed an improvement in my flexibility and posture. I also wanted to do longer sessions at home (and in a class setting), and I finally got to the point where I craved yoga, especially slow and relaxing “flow” sessions.

I think yoga is one of those activities that you can see results within a couple of weeks, even days, of starting. For me, it was motivating to see progress in myself almost right away– both physically and mentally. Even though I wasn’t able to practice every single day of the Challenge, I have a feeling yoga will “stick” this time– even if it’s just 20 minutes with audio yoga in my bedroom a few times a week. Even just a small amount of yoga in my life makes a world of difference!

I’m very interested in what you guys have to say about your progress from the start of the Challenge to the end- how yoga has benefited you both mentally and physically as well as any other insights that you might have into the Challenge or yoga in general. So, if you would like to enter the “essay” contest, please email me (tina@carrotsncake.com) with your thoughts, insights, and opinions about your experience with the 31 Day Yoga Challenge by the end of the day tomorrow, April 1. You can read all of the details about the contest here.
