Hectic Hump Day

Good morning, lovely people! I’m in a wonderful mood this morning… I’m not sure why exactly, but I’ll take it! :)

Healthworks

My long shift at HW actually flew by last night! Abs class went well. I still get a little nervous (and say weird things), but I worked those ladies hard! :) I also had my first “Jump Start” appointment with a client last night. A “Jump Start” is basically a general introduction to the gym. I started the session with a brief discussion of the woman’s goals, health history, and type of exercise she has done in the past. Next, I went over some exercise guidelines and took her through a Nautilus orientation, focusing on the areas that she was most concerned about (lower body). Finally, I developed a basic fitness program for her that included cardiovascular, strength training, and flexibility components. I lucked out with my first client– she was friendly, interested, and asked lots of questions. She made my first “Jump Start” experience that much easier! :)

On my shift last night, I was also busy with lots of “projects.” I’m one of those people who like to be working when I am at work; too much downtime makes me crazy. To keep me “entertained,” the Assistant Fitness Director put together a bunch of little projects for me to complete over the course of the night, including updating and making copies of the Focus Training schedule, creating and laminating new BURN schedules for the treadmills, and laminating updated pages for the Fitness Assessment binder. These tasks kept me busy until almost the end of the night– I barely had time for cleaning and my closing responsibilities, but they made the night whiz by!

Breakfast

Breakfast this morning was a bowl of oatmeal mixed with walnuts, flaxseed meal, apple butter (we’re all out of fruit, so apple butter was the closest I could find!), and topped with 2 spoonfuls of chunky peanut butter.

Measurements:

1/2 cup dry oats
1/4 cup apple butter
1/8 cup chopped walnuts
2 tbsp ground flaxseed meal
2 tbsp peanut butter

At work, I made myself a mug of Sumatra with milk and agave nectar… which actually needs to be reheated ASAP.

Question of the Day

What do you think about using food as a “reward”?
