Hey, hey!

Yesterday, I had the opportunity to participate in Cycle for Friendship at Legacy Place to benefit Best Buddies Massachusetts. It was such a wonderful event and definitely one that I would attend again. It was well-organized, a lot of fun, and I got an awesome workout while benefiting a great cause at the same time!

Best Buddies International is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to establishing a global volunteer movement that creates opportunities for one-to-one friendships, integrated employment, and leadership development for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD).

The event kicked off at 8:00 AM with the first of four 45-minute spinning classes led by Rev’d instructors. (Rev’d is a local spin studio with a location neighboring Legacy Place and at Patriot Place.) The instructors were really enthusiastic and knew exactly how to motivate the riders with lots of rockin’ music and encouragement.

The event was held outdoors in one of the roadways between shops at Legacy Place (how cool is that?!), which meant spin participants got their sweat on outside. It was a little gray yesterday, but I liked the sprinkle of rain while spinning!

Also at the event were a bunch of “yard” games.

As well as snacks from Whole Foods.

And water from Shake Shack. It was great to see so many businesses supporting the event.

Ready to ride! My sister and friend Marisa joined me for the class, which was much harder than I expected. The instructor, Joel, had us moving and grooving all over the bike– standing up, sitting down, doing crunches– and he put us through some serious hill work. My legs were burnnnning at times. Oooh, baby, it felt so good. It was definitely a great workout!

Once spinning ended, there was an optional yoga cool-down with Stil Studio, but we ended up skipping it since it started to rain harder. Next time for sure!

After the event, I had the pleasure of meeting Craig Welton, the State Director for Best Buddies, who also participated in the class. Sherri (on the right) works for Legacy Place and did an amazing job planning the event!

All in all, it was a wonderful event, and I’m so glad I was able to participate. A big THANK YOU to Legacy Place and Best Buddies for inviting me!!
