• What I’m Loving Lately 60

    March 4, 2016

    Hi, friends!

It’s FRIDAY and you know what that means… It’s time for another edition of What I’m Loving Lately where I tell you guys what I’m really digging lately. Ok, here we go!

Our new bird feeder – Quinn and I went on a little adventure earlier this week and bought a new feeder, stand, and seed to attract birds (and squirrels and chipmunks) to our house. We actually haven’t seen too many birds yet, but only because the squirrels are dominating out there. We need to buy a longer pole and/or get one of those squirrel cone things to block them from climbing up. We’re such bird watching rookies.

Speaking of birds, I’m really loving my new office art – After looking and looking and looking, I finally ordered this Birds on a Wire piece and hung it in my office. It’s so bright and colorful and instantly cheers up the space! And the birds make me think of Quinn every time I see it. <3

Coconut Almond Protein Powder – I’ve tried a few plant-based protein powders now and this flavor from Vega is BY FAR my favorite. It’s tasty mixed with water and a little almond milk, iced coffee, or orange juice (yes, really), and it doesn’t have that chalky, grainy texture like some other ones. FYI: Technically, this protein powder is an “all-in-one nutritional shake,” so, in addition to 20g of protein, you also get 6 servings of greens, omega-3s, antioxidants, probiotics (1 billion), fiber, and all sorts of vitamins and minerals. Guys, it’s legit!

This video of how to tie a scarf 8 million ways – It’s helpful and mesmerizing!

Frownies + Rose Water Hydrator Spray – The wrinkles on my forehead are really started to bug me. They’re just getting deeper and deeper by the day, so I started using Frownies with their Rose Water Hydrator Spray overnight and when I work at my computer. (I guess I furrow my brow quite a lot when I’m blogging away!) I’ve used them regularly for about a month now, and I’m starting to notice a difference. The wrinkles aren’t totally gone, but they look a lot more “soft,” which I’ll take. Anything to slow the process!

Jared Bullock Instagram – He’s a retired Green Beret and amputee, and he doesn’t let his physical disabilities stop him, especially with regard to his workouts. He has such a great attitude too. He’s inspirational on so many levels.

Carrots ‘N’ Cake cereal bowl – My friends from General Mills sent me an adorable engraved CNC bowl in honor of National Cereal Day, which is coming up on Monday (3/7). I love it so much and can’t wait to use it to celebrate the big day!

The best St. Patty’s Day cocktail – This sounds and looks delicious! Must try.

Herbal Pizza & Pasta Magic Seasoning – You guys might remember this seasoning from my cauliflower pizza crust recipe and, boy, is it delicious. It’s so flavorful and definitely has a spicy kick to it, so it’s a fun addition to all sorts of dishes!

Killer Total Body Tabata Workout – Tabatas are such a great way to work out. This looks like a good one!

Healthy Shamrock Shake – This looks delicious! I NEED to try it!

No Hands Pants Dance – This is ridiculous! Haha!

CNC referenced in a book – Sarah Marie Allen, a long-time CNC reader, recently published “How To Love Losing Weight: 7 Secrets To Turn Struggle Into Success,” a book about the psychology of weight loss. Losing weight doesn’t necessarily have to be difficult or unenjoyable, and Sarah’s goal is to help readers look at things in a new light (“therapy in the form of a book” she says). And she mentions Carrots ‘N’ Cake in her chapter called The Power Of Social Proof, which talks about how positive influence can rub off on you and, before you know it, you may find yourself loving the process of losing weight. So cool. I feel so honored to be included and love how Sarah gives losing weight a positive spin! Definitely check out her book! Kindle readers it’s free for a limited time!

If you want to prevent the squirrels from getting to your feed, get a longer pole that forces them to climb to get to the feed. Then spread Vaseline on the pole. It’s harmless to all the animals & it’s funny to watch the squirrels try to climb it.

    @Sarah Feldman:
this really works! It’s very satisfying (and funny) to watch those squirrels slide down the pole instead of ravaging the feeders.

For fine lines and wrinkles, try Rodan + Fields “Redefine” regimen! Especially with the AMP roller for the forehead wrinkles! The line was created by the dermatologists who started Proactiv, and they branched out into products for more “adult” skin. It’s amazing stuff! It’s all multi-med therapy so designed to work best together in a specific order. And all products have a 60 day full money back guarantee if you aren’t happy. I’ve been using it since October and absolutely see a difference! http://www.egarcia3.myrandf.com

Vega is my favorite! The only protein powder I will do. I do the vanilla nutritional shake you mentioned or the sport mocha which is really good too!

I’m not a huge cereal fan these days but maybe I can buy a small fun size box of lucky charms or cinnamon toast crunch, two of my favorites!

I love our bird feeder, I was actually just looking at it this morning – we have some little chickadees eating right now. I wonder if you have any humming birds in your area, a humming bird feeder would be fun! My father has one and we’ve seen a few over the years!

Hi Tina, I see that someone also recommended the redefine line from Rodan & Fields. It’s an amazing regimen that targets fine lines and wrinkles. There are also lots of great tools the speed up your results such as the amp roller or macro Exfoliator which is a at home microdermabrasion tool. I am a consultant and would LOVE to help you target those stubborn lines. If interested in a sample mini facial or to chat about products shoot me an email. My website is randyllrobidoux.myrandf.com

Mix a hot powdered spice with your bird seed. Squirrel’s hate it but the birds cannot taste it.

I’m a huge fan of microdermabrasion for fine lines and wrinkles; you can find some pretty good deals on groupon for local spas. I also use a retinol cream a few nights a week, which for me also helps but can be a little drying.

Every time you mention Quinn’s love of birds, it makes me so happy because you and Mal are such nurturing parents and you’re encouraging his natural enthusiasm for learning. I’ve tutored more kids than I like to think about who just didn’t/don’t have that kind of support at home and it makes such a difference in their lives. Basically, you guys are awesome.

I tried the vanilla version of that protein powder and wasn’t a huge fan – still tasted chalky. But, the coconut almond version sounds delish. I use Bio Chem vanilla now and I love it. No chalky taste, you can even drink it mixed with water. I’ll have to keep my eye out and try the new coconut almond.

Yea, I wasn’t a huge fan of the vanilla either. The coconut almond is definitely better!

Thanks for sharing the Frownies product. The lines in my forehead have been bothering me lately, too, so I just started getting acupuncture treatments for them. (I’ll do anything to avoid Botox). I’ve been much more aware of relaxing my face, too, to prevent them from getting worse.

I have mad love for Vanilla Chex (gluten free!) and they are the perfect amount of sweet. Also with almond milk they rock and drinking the milk of the cereal is probably my favorite part. I also saw that vega protein at target (looking to find a cheaper alternative to Shakeology). Thank you for the review! I will definitely be trying this when my current bag of shakeology runs out!!

Oh man do I love Vega. I drink the French Vanilla Nutritional Shake every day! It’s not too hard on my stomach (like other protein powders are- ie Shakeology) and I really feel like it helps reduce the soreness I feel after a long run or good workout. Plus it’s not too expensive and is on Amazon Prime. The other bonus is that I actually really like the way it tastes with some soy milk and water. All around my fav.

Not sure why people still use protein shakes. Do you not realize that it’s a by-product of the dairy industry, which is marketed as the next sliced bread? Better spend money on real food rather than fancy looking powder.
