Mal went back to school yesterday, and it was bittersweet for everyone involved. We were spoiled having him home all summer long, and I am especially appreciative that we were able to share parenting responsibilities. It was definitely a nice way to ease into life with a newborn!

Now it’s just Q and me (and Murphy), 5 days a week, Monday through Friday, approximately 7:00 AM – 4:00 PM. Obviously, I am so happy and grateful that I am able to stay home with my little peanut and watch him grow up, but, truthfully, I’m also a little worried about how things are going to change around here.

What will I do if Q cries all day long?

Is my house going to become a complete mess?

What will happen to CNC?

When will I have time to exercise?

Will I feel totally exhausted and not want to do anything by the end of the day?

Things are definitely changing around here, so I want to be as proactive as possible and adjust as necessary to keep both Q and me happy. That said, here’s what I have planned for our “new” life!

CH-CH-CHANGES…

No more daddy daycare.

For the most part, I could come and go as a pleased all summer long, thanks to my wonderful and amazing husband. Morning spin class? Sure! Quick trip to Target? No problem. I had someone at home watching Q for me. Now that Mal is back at school, I don’t have this freedom anymore. I know Q and I can still do a lot of the same things together, but it’ll take a little planning and coordination, especially in the beginning until I get totally comfortable. (I am still anxious about having a baby meltdown in a public place. I know I just need to get over it, but I’m not there yet. What happens if Q freaks out and I can’t calm him down? Of course, I don’t want to become a hermit and stay at home all the time, so my plan is to leave the house with Q at least once a day””even if it’s just a drive to buy an iced coffee.)

My workouts need to be more scheduled. Fitness is obviously a priority for Mal and me, so we worked it out that I will go to CrossFit on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday nights and he’ll take Tuesday and Thursday as well as Saturday mornings. (Depending on the week and what we have going on, we’ll switch up nights, like when I have a blog event or he has parent-teacher conferences at school.) On Tuesdays and Thursdays, my plan is to run with Q in the stroller or do a quickie basement workout while he naps.

I need to stay on top of household chores. With Mal not home during the day, a lot of the household stuff will become my responsibility. A messy house drives me nuts, so I’m hoping a weekly schedule and/or a daily To Do list will help keep me on track by encouraging me to do a few chores each day, so our house doesn’t totally fall apart.

I need to prep healthy food on Sundays for the upcoming week. I am actually pretty good about food prep already, but I figured it was important to mention since it makes such a difference in sticking with a healthy diet. Lately, my go-to food prep is roasting a bunch of veggies, cooking up some chicken (or salmon), and buying some salad greens. Then, I just throw together quickie salads for lunch and dinner when I am home alone with Q. I switch up the veggies and toppings every week (dressings, crumbled feta, goat cheese, hard-boiled eggs, beans, olives, edamame, pickles), so things don’t get boring.

There are fewer opportunities to get blog stuff done (unless I never sleep). Q is my top priority, so unless he’s napping, I probably won’t do too much work during the day. But, as you probably know, I’m a crazy person and will likely end up blogging and replying to emails in the middle of the night or at some ungodly early hour. #cnc4life
