Happy Father’s Day to all of the dads out there, especially Mal, who has taken to fatherhood with flying colors this past week. He’s been a total rockstar with taking care of our little family lately, and I am so appreciative. I honestly don’t know where I’d be without him!

I had planned a big ol’ Father’s Day breakfast to celebrate my wonderful and amazing husband, but, unfortunately, things didn’t work out as planned. Since we got home from the hospital on Wednesday, I’ve only gotten about 4-5 hours of sleep per night every 24 hours, (I’ve been tracking the hours via my new Jawbone UP24 – one of my “push presents” from Mal), so he kindly offered to let me sleep through the morning. He’s averaging a decent amount of sleep (not a lot but more than me), so he was totally happy to take over the baby stuff while I snoozed. What a guy, right?

Even though I really appreciated Mal’s nice gesture, I have to admit, I felt kind of bad about it because he didn’t really have a relaxing Father’s Day. He actually ended up cooking ME breakfast and then doing a bunch of chores around the house while I slept.

He even put together both of our strollers! (Side note: I seriously can’t wait for walks together as a family! So pumped.)

When I told Mal how badly I felt about his lame-o Father’s Day celebration (I bought him a card and small gift), he reminded me that we’re a team and that we both need to be semi-rested/functioning parents to properly care for baby Q. I know he’s right, but I still wish things had went differently on his first Father’s Day. No matter what, I am definitely going to make it up to him!

Our weekend also included a ton of visitors to see baby Q. Just about everyone who stopped by brought us some sort of delicious food, so our fridge is totally stocked now. Oh my goodness, I can’t even explain how much food our family and friends brought us. Seriously, it’s SO MUCH! I have no idea how we are going to eat it all (we’ll be freezing a bunch of it), but I am so thankful that we have such amazing people in our life.

And, finally, our weekend included a special birthday celebration for our first born (fur child). Murphy turned 5 years old on Saturday (Flag Day), and, of course, we celebrated appropriately. (At least I got that celebration right!)

Many of us have experienced that moment when the number staring back at you on the scale ruins your whole day, especially if you ate well and stuck with your workout routine all week long. It’s not surprising that you might be disappointed, but there’s a lot more to weight loss than just what you see on the scale.

Sure, the scale is appealing as a measure of weight loss because it gives you instant feedback on your progress, but it’s all too easy to get too attached to that number. So, the next time the number on the scale gets you down, step off, take a deep breath, and remember that it does not tell you the whole story.

Here are 5 valuable things that the scale won’t tell you.
