Over the weekend, Mal and I made some serious progress on our house projects. We spent all day Saturday and most of Sunday working on them.

Our first order of business was dealing with the random crap in our basement.

I know I said I was embarrassed to show you guys what our basement looked like, but I figured some pictures would help show our progress.

Our basement BEFORE:

After about four hours of non-stop organizing and moving furniture (we changed our minds at least three times), our basement looks a million times better!

The photo below is the future location of our home gym!

With Baby Haupert on the way, Mal and I know we won’t have as much time to devote to working out, especially when it comes to CrossFit, so we’re bringing it to us! Well, sort of.

The ceilings in our basement are actually only 6.5 feet tall, so we won’t be able to do any overhead movements, but we still think we can get a good workout on our “off” days. Right now, Mal and I are hoping we can each attend three CrossFit classes each week and work out in our basement on the other days””doing modified 781 workouts or making up our own.

I definitely think a home gym is a great option for us. Mal and I both love CrossFit and we’re highly motivated to work out on our own, which I know can sometimes be a big concern with home gyms. Of course, I’d prefer a class or a fancy gym to keep me motivated, but I’ve always enjoyed exercising at home. That said, I thought it would be fun to do a little recap of my home workouts over the years!

Gilad’s Bodies in Motion

Oh, yes. I totally did Gilad’s “Bodies in Motion” workouts in my living room. The sand, the sea, the round mats, that sexy accent, those amazing color-coordinated leotards”¦ oh, boy. That show was really something special. I watched Gilad almost every day, and I still remember circling the workouts I wanted to do in the TV Guide each week. Even back then I was scheduling my workouts! Haha!

Cindy Crawford’s “Shape Your Body” workout

Back in the early-to-mid 90s, I rented this VHS tape from our local movie store. I’m not sure why it caught my attention (I assume it was Cindy Crawford’s hot bod), but I immediately loved this workout. It didn’t require a lot of space or equipment, and it was challenging.

The tape needed to be returned to the video store the next day, so I watched it from start to finish and wrote down every single exercise on a piece of paper, so I could do it later on… and I did! I probably did this “Shape Your Body” workout about 100 times over the next year or so.

Reebok step

My next love in home workouts was step aerobics. My mom bought me a Reebok step for Christmas one year, and I used it all the time. I only had few different workouts (there were three on the VHS tape that came with the step), but I never really got bored with them. Even today, many years later, I still love a good step aerobics workout!

Body Pump

Fast forward to post-college, I was obsessed with Body Pump. I loved it so much, in fact, when I switched gyms to one that didn’t offer it, I bought my own weight set and DVD to do it at home. Even at home, I found it to be an awesome workout. I am almost positive there will be some Body Pump workouts happening in our basement in the coming months!

Physique 57

My first introduction to barre workouts was actually through a Physique 57 DVD that I did at home. The workout was so unexpectedly challenging, I started doing these workouts on a regular basis for quite awhile. Ooh, baby, feel the burn!

At-home WODs

In recent times, I’ve done all sorts of CrossFit-inspired workouts in our basement and backyard. I love the high-intensity; you can get so much done in a short amount of time!
