Greetings from Cabo!
Mal and I are in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico as part of a sponsored trip with Destino Retreats and The Trip Tribe. (Here’s why!) We arrived on Wednesday afternoon, and I have been having THE BEST time ever since. CrossFit + vacation = AWESOMENESS!
Just before our flight to Cabo, I surprised Mal with something I’ve been wanting to do since I created my Life’s To Do List when I was 22 years old: Fly First Class. Yep, that’s right. I splurged and upgraded our tickets about a month ago and then didn’t tell Mal until Wednesday morning when I couldn’t keep the secret any longer. I was so excited to tell him! Obviously, he was pumped. You only live once, right?
Vodka soda + warm nuts [insert joke]? Sign me up!
Mal and I packed all sorts of CrossFit-inspired reading materials to get us (even more) excited for our trip.
Love this quote from Annie Thorisdottir!
And this is ridiculous… Mal was reading through a media brochure that I got at the CrossFit Games last week. Inside was all sorts of photos from the previous year’s Games, and he spotted me in the background of one of them! Haha! I look like such a tool snapping a photo. It was actually this exact photo during the men’s Track Triplet.
The food on the plane was really good! I had salmon for lunch.
Baked chicken and sweet potatoes for dinner.
And warm chocolate chip cookies for dessert. Mmm!
Our flights (we had a quick layover in Dallas) totally flew by and, before we knew it, we were landing in Cabo. Yay!
The nice folks from Destino provided a transfer from the airport to our hotel, which was really nice, especially since it was a good 30-minute ride.
When Mal and I checked into our room, we both received sport duffle bags full of surprises from Destino Retreats.
Inside was a Destino t-shirt, fun knee-high socks (Mal’s said: “I Know Squat,” and all sorts of Paleo-friendly snacks and drinks. It was quite the goodie bag and a really nice welcome from our hosts.
Within minutes of getting settled in our room, Mal and I heard a knock at the door and then were handed mango margaritas—with booze! For some reason, I was expecting them to be virgin, but there was definitely tequila in them! Yay, mango margaritas!
Our group for the “WODS and Paleo Retreat” are staying at the Bahia Hotel, an adorable, full-service boutique hotel, right near the Medano Beach district, which has all sorts of restaurants, shops, and nightlife.
The hotel is gorgeous inside (about 2/3 of it has been recently renovated) with modern, stylish, and even sort of romantic décor.
The hotel houses Bar Esquina, where the staff has been extremely accommodating with our Paleo menu. I’ll fill you in on the specifics as the trip progresses, but the restaurant serves amazing food—locally-grown, organic produce, freshly-caught fish, and high-quality meats. Let’s just say we’ve been eatin’ well!
LOTS more to come! I have so much to tell you guys!
