• Back in the Day 10K & City Sports Gift Card Giveaway

    June 14, 2013

My friends at City Sports are hosting their first ever road race on June 30th in Somerville. It’s an 80s-themed 10K (so fun!) to celebrate their 30th Anniversary and proceeds from registration will go to cancer care and research.

To create some buzz for the Back in the Day 10K, City Sports is offering a gift card giveaway and a special registration promo code on CNC, so both local and not-so-local readers can celebrate their inaugural race.

Registration for the Back in the Day 10K is $45 and participants will receive a limited edition race tee, commemorative pint glass, and 80s-style CS shades. If you’d like to register, you can save $5 off the cost with the promo code XFIT1983. (The code is only valid for 50 uses, so be sure to hop on it!)

Giveaway time! Here’s your chance to win a $100 gift card from City Sports!

To enter: Just leave a comment on this post about the most fun you’ve ever had at a road race. Earn an extra entry by tweeting about this giveaway: “Enter to win a $100 gift card from @CitySports & @CarrotsNCake to celebrate the #80sRUN! http://bit.ly/11ldJQn #boston #run.” Just be sure to leave a second comment on this post with your tweet. Molly B June 16, 2013 at 11:48 am

I had an AMAZING time at the Davis Square St. Patty’s Day 5K one year in a freezing rain. The whole situation was just so ridiculous that everyone had a blast.

    Lauren June 16, 2013 at 12:02 pm

We did a Thanksgiving themed race the week before Thanksgiving and it was SO COLD but so fun!

I haven’t run that many races, but the Rock n Roll Half in DC was so fun for me because it was my first race! The bands that were playing along the road were awesome too!

    Shannon W. June 16, 2013 at 12:20 pm

The SCOPE 5K Sprint for Colorectal Cancer and Oncology Prevention and Education. Felt good to run for a good cause!

    Tina June 16, 2013 at 12:36 pm

I’ve never run a road race, but it looks cool!

    Amy June 16, 2013 at 2:19 pm

I had a great time at the Battle of Bunker Hill 8k today in Charlestown. It was special because I got to run it with my dad for Father’s Day!

    Amy June 16, 2013 at 2:20 pm

    I also tweeted.

Must fun road race was in Richmond – so many fans cheering!

    Michelle June 16, 2013 at 6:00 pm

I loved the Nike women 1/2 in DC this year – my family did a great job cheering along the course, the weather was perfect, and I had a good fun!

The most fun I’ve had during a race was my first half-marathon! Such an incredible experience

    Amie June 16, 2013 at 6:51 pm

The most fun I had at a road race was a Jingle Bell Run last fall when my coworkers and I dressed up as Santa and his reindeer and elves!

The most fun had to be watching all of the crazy runners dressed up for Bay to Breakers. I ran the race dressed totally normal, but people were dressed in costume and also nude. Only in San Francisco!

    Kayla June 16, 2013 at 8:18 pm

I’ve never actually run a road race before but they seem awesome! Right now I’m in the process of starting to run long distances again and soon I’ll be looking for an upcoming race to sign up to motivate me even more!

Kerri Kalinski June 16, 2013 at 8:46 pm

The most fun I’ve ever had was running with my fiancé! It was just so nice to do a race with him and it adds that little competitive edge when you’re trying to beat each other! Haha

    Molly C. June 16, 2013 at 8:53 pm

The most fun I ever had at a road race was last year’s Girls on the Run Race.. I ran it with my “little sister” from the Big Sister Association of Greater Boston, and we both had such a blast together.

    Nikki June 16, 2013 at 8:58 pm

The Covered Bridges Half Marathon was incredible! I ran it for my bachelorette weekend. Not only was the setting gorgeous, but my girls went all out and dressed me up in a bridal veil, etc. It was such a fun race!

    Shannon June 16, 2013 at 9:05 pm

My dog, Lucy, and I did our first 5k this year, it was so fun!! We did it with my coworkers and it was so fun to cheer each other on. I never understood the hype, but now I’m hooked!

    Pauline June 16, 2013 at 9:06 pm

My first 5 mile race was the Squantum
5 miler and I loved it because at the time it was the longest distance race I’d done. Felt great sense if accomplishment when I finished. The race also had perfect mix of hills and scenic views. I live races that go through neighborhoods. And great after party at marina bay following!

    Kim June 16, 2013 at 10:27 pm

I’ve run the Boston Marathon 3 years in a row and despite the challenging course, the amazing crowds, cheering sections throughout the ENTIRE course, support, and finish line anticipation make it the most fun race for me!!

    pruttybird June 17, 2013 at 12:07 am

I had a blast the first time I did the warrior dash

I did the Color Run last summer in Brooklyn – despite being injured and having to walk it, the fact that I got a number of friends to do a race with me made it a blast.

    Cole June 17, 2013 at 8:24 am

I ran a fourth of the july 5k with my family, I loved having them all there with me!

    Marita H June 17, 2013 at 10:03 am

Love the “Flatter Me Navy Hoodie”!

    Sarah January 21, 2014 at 7:47 am

I’d love some capris and a new sports bra!

    Erin January 21, 2014 at 11:14 am

I adore Cartwheel! It saves me tons on the healthy food options my local Super Target sells. If I won the gift card I’d buy a Softshell Jacket and some of their Semi Fit Pants. I am not really a fan of super fit yoga pants l, the semi fit pants look more my speed.
