• A Little Confession

    June 18, 2013

Hi, friends! Happy Tuesday! I hope your week is off to a fabulous start!

So, guys, I have a little confession for you: I’m bored with taking photos of my food. Phew. There, I said it.

If you’ve been following CNC from the beginning, you know I’ve been snapping photos of my meals and snacks for almost 5.5 years now. That’s a lot of food photos! Even though I don’t take photos of everything I eat, it’s still something I think about multiple times a day. And I guess I’m just not that into it anymore, which maybe you’ve noticed over the past several months.

Now don’t get me wrong, I love blogging and sharing my life “one bite at a time” on CNC, but, moving forward, I’m going to document less of my everyday meals and snacks. I’m not saying I won’t document a full day of eats from time-to-time, but I just won’t do it on the regular.

What does this mean for CNC? Honestly, not too much. You’ll still see some of my meals—more like snapshots and summaries of what I am eating—and I hope blogging less about my daily eats will make way for other fun content: workouts, events, recipes, new products, life adventures, pug photos (obviously), and other randomness. You can also follow me on Instagram (carrotsncake) to see what I’m eating. I post a lot of food (and pug) pics there!

With that said, here’s a snapshot of some of my eats from the past couple of days:

    CNC eats

    1. Roasted chicken with carrots, celery, and onions, steamed broccoli, and rice
    2. Homemade cauliflower, leek & ginger soup, a banana, and Marylou’s white chocolate chip iced coffee with soymilk
    3. Green juice made with apple, spinach, carrots, cucumber, and ginger
    4. Baked acorn squash with vanilla cake batter coconut butter
    5. Avocado chicken salad
    6. Avocado + banana smoothie (recipe on Health next week)

Remember when exercise meant playing kickball with neighborhood friends and Capture the Flag during recess? As a kid, I never went in search of a new workout or felt like I needed to check it off my list for the day. I got a workout without even trying! Boy, when did exercise stop being fun?

If you can’t remember the last time you enjoyed a workout, try this one, which takes place at an outdoor playground. It’s a guaranteed fun time!

I can imagine that taking pictures of every meal can become boring, annoying after a while however I hope you’ll still tell us about your delicious eats now and again :D You’re one of the few bloggers I turn to when I need inspiration food wise or when I’m on a slippery slope, or even when I need motivation. But, as it has been said, it is your blog & readers who like who you are will keep reading no matter what direction your blog takes. I know I will.

I love blogs about food, fitness, and fun! I started blogging just about food but, my life is so much more than just food so I’ve started adding running and fitness and life stuff, too. I think it’s gone okay – the hardest part is for me to remember to take pictures OUTSIDE of my kitchen. Haha! I certainly haven’t been blogging as long as you but the change for my blog was the right one, I think. I love reading your blog and all the exciting things you get to do. And, it certainly doesn’t hurt that Murphy is cute. :)

Right now I really enjoy reading health and fitness blogs. They give me ideas on how to change up my workout and different healthy foods to eat. I will probably start following more fashion blogs in a couple of months when I can buy new clothes!

I really love everything about CNC. I especially like that you talk about your CrossFit experiences. I am really interested in CrossFit and would love to join a local gym.. the only thing holding me back is the cost.

I didn’t used to have a focus besides things that were going on in my life, but I recently changed it to focus on my journey to getting healthy. It could change as time goes on but that’s where it is now.

I think that is a good decision. I don’t really get why people want to see pictures of what you eat every day. I understand pics are really helpful when posting recipes and things like that, but pics of your salad or green juice are not needed all the time. It may be that others are (unhealthily) comparing themselves to you and what you eat. I for one will be glad to see other content and workouts, general updates on your life, but not necessarily pics of your eats!

Tina, for me personally I like to read your blog to see new products, events, recipes (my fave is still the microwave english muffin!) and adventures. And I see no harm in evolving your blog vision….it’s how we evolve as people. I’m looking forward to your new format and kudos on your decision!

I think this is a really good change! I’m in the crowd that just tends to skim food photos (not just on your blog, but elsewhere too) because I just find it gets boring quickly…and on the other side of things, it gets boring and repetitive to write! For the past few months, I’ve been doing weekly meal plans and workout recaps instead of trying to do them all the day-of (with just a few pictures in each to show the highlights)…not only is it way better for my schedule, I’m pretty sure it’s just more interesting to read too!

Your blog is one on my favorites because I love all of your recipes you post. You are so creative and have given me ideas for healthier ways to cook certain dishes- its nice to have an alternative to the high calorie, high fat, high sugar foods. :-D I’ll continue to follow- with or without pictures of meals!!

Of course my favorite blogs to read are FITNESS BLOGS. I love that you also talk about different types of fitness. You have your fave (Crossfit) as we all do (Zumba for me) but you also mix it up which is so important. Thanks for being awesome!

Thank you for sharing the playground workout. It is actually a perfect workout for training for the ToughMudder which I have no intention of doing but my friends won’t stop hassling me about.

I’m glad you made a decision to keep your blog fresh and interesting for you!

My blog became more about running when I realized, well, how much it was a part of my life, but I don’t always blog about running. I changed the focus from food, now I just share awesome meals/recipes when I feel like it. It’s more fun that way.

My favorite blogs cover all SORTS of topics. I generally search for food, healthy living posts, and home design/DIY. I love yours because not only does it give me great meal ideas and workouts, you also include your personal life. I am doing a “blog overhaul” this summer because after three years of posting, it is a lifestyle blog. Our life has changed A LOT in three years. I started it to keep our family updated as we traveled the world. But the blog is lacking “theme”. I feel like I’m interested in TOO many topics and thus it’s just a mess. I’m re-working it to include the highlights of my interests, and just try to organize it so it’s easier to navigate…of course all this is easier said than done!

I think this will be a great change for CnC! I like blogs that feature multiple topics like you do & think it will give you more time for that ‘stuff’ :) KERF changed up her daily food posting, too, and I thought it was a great change!

I think it’s great to see how blogs change along with the blogger. I think anything you end of posting will be interesting for everyone.

I love your little snacks and treats, although now Pinterest does give me that visual motivation to create new meals. It would be great to still see any new recipes/smoothies you make though.

As long as Murphy is still a reigning feature, I will be here for every post :-)

I changed the focus of my blog for the same reason. I found I get more readership and response from personal life updates, a good recipe or workout updates. The blogging what I eat all the time seems to bore readers and adds more work for me.
