Whatcha waiting for, Murphy?
Ooooh, peanut butter.
A lick from Dad’s knife was worth the wait.
Definitely.
Breakfast
I woke up bright and early this morning to make OMG Pancakes for Mal and me for breakfast. (I love this recipe so much.) I topped mine with maple syrup and a scoop of Teddie peanut butter. I also drank a glass of Dandy Blend with coconut milk. Fab breakfast.
Workout
After breakfast, I finished up a freelance piece and then headed to CrossFit for a workout. On the agenda: Shuttle Runs aka “Suicides,” which, honestly, are the worst, right? They’re so frickin’ hard and they make you feel terrible all over… Jello legs, blood lungs… but, I do love a good challenge!
METCON:
3 x 300 yard Shuttle Runs
*Full recovery between efforts; 3-4 minutes rest. Foam rolling while recovering.
300 yards = 12 gym lengths
Score = slowest sprint time
Did you happen to notice the “12 gym lengths” in the WOD above? These shuttle runs were long. And brutal.
My favorite competitor, Kerrie, was in class with me this morning, so my goal was to keep up with her. She’s speedy! We finished the first two 300 meter shuttle runs at the exact same time, but, on the final one, I just died. Totally died. My head was still in it, and I really tried to beat Kerrie, but my body wanted no part in it. Next time, KG!

I’d love to run this race! I don’t live far from Williamsburg, and I’d love to be involved in anything for Wounded Warrior.
Sara O.
The race would be an awesome idea for a mother daughter trip this summer and for both of us to do the 8K. My mother and i did our first 5K together last year.
Congrats, Caitlin and Sara! Please email me at tina@carrotsncake.com to claim your prize.
Question of the Day
Is there anything worse than shuttle runs/suicides?
What food is worth waiting for?
My picks: Kimball’s ice cream, breakfast at the Wheelhouse Diner, and pretty much any freshly baked dessert or crockpot meal. NOT worth the wait: Sonic. Remember that ridiculous adventure? What were were thinking?! Haha!

We always let our dogs lick the peanut butter knife/spoon too! They LOVE it. It’s too funny watching them sit SO patiently for it.
I think I’d say banana bread (or any quick bread). I always want to slice it right away, but if I can find some patience, waiting until it has cooled to come out of the pan neatly is always more rewarding and delicious.
The food that is so hard to wait for is pizza! After you bring it out of the oven it is so hard to wait for it to cool for just a bit to be able to slice the pizza to perfection!
Fresh baked dessert is definitely worth the wait
Suicides are the worst! Such a killer, but make you feel great when you finish! I would say ice cream is worth waiting for! I wish I could eat it everyday, but it doesn’t happen. The ice cream places around me have closed for the winter so I can’t wait to get my hands on some soon!
A local church where my parents live make these homemade peanut butter eggs that are only sold in March. They are definitely worth waiting for and splurging on!
I think anything with the word Fran in it is bad! Id.wait for a freshly baked cupcake!
Food, any food after hard exercise… And ice cream or maybe a hot Mexican meal when I’m really hungry. I like Mexican.
I would have to say in more general terms, fall foods are always worth the wait! I realize it is perfectly acceptable to make pumpkin everything year round, but there is something special about waiting until the weather gets just right to start going crazy with pumpkin in the kitchen!
Worth the wait: Cafe Rio. Really good, homemade pizza. Fresh baked banana or pumpkin bread. Homemade oatmeal choc chip cookies. My mom’s Swiss Christmas cookies.
Shuttle runs are the worst. fo sho. Nice work though!
My least favorite exercise are definitely lunges. I hate them with a passion, but I do them anyways.
for soccer in high school, we had to do “suicides” on the football lines, sprint forward and then backwards run back. i think those are SO much worse than regular suicides, but i just hate running backwards
food worth waiting for, probably In-N-Out…I always choose to go there when i’m “hangry” and beyond starving, its the only thing that sounds good.
Hahaha oh murphy!
Haha I think burpees are worse! Great job on them though! And Murphy knows what’s up: peanut butter is always worth the wait!
Food that is worth the wait for me is mac & cheese and pizza! Total comfort foods
.
Homemade cinnamon rolls are always worth the wait! That darn yeast takes its time rising, but it is so so delicious.
Murphy is sooo cuuuute <3 <3 <3
Nothing is worse than suicides…
food worth waiting for: chicken schwarmma; Reeses; awesome brownie sundaes-oh, wait, this isn't food…um, chicken fajitas, any seafood
I agree with Murphy- peanut butter! Also worth waiting for of course – fresh baked warm from the oven chocolate chip cookies (homemade, from scratch of course)…
I hate shuttle runs. Even as a kid, I hated doing them for the fitness testing. I always felt so out of control and as if I was gonna fall over when trying to grab those darn erasers…
Many foods are oh-so-worth-the-wait (even though I’m incredibly impatient, especially with food, hence why I hate cooking), but what immediately comes to mind for me is my favorite Hound Dog’s “backyard dog” pizza in Columbus, OH. It’s an amazing veggie pizza that I’ve loved since college (and it’s attached to a bar with a daily 4-9pm happy hour!:

Burpees and cake!
Great answer!
Did you ever have to do the ‘beep test’ in high school gym?? Oh man it was the hardest. It was suicides over a set distance and every time the CD that was being played beeped you started running and then waited at the other side for the next beep. If you made it all the way to the end of the test it felt like it was beeping every two seconds! Brutal!
Oh, man, that sounds “fun”! Haha!
My dog, Stanley, waits EVERY SINGLE MORNING for my boyfriend to give him a carrot. Stanley knows that it is carrot time when my BF is making his breakfast. Stan will sit there and wait and wait until his time. It’s adorable
For me, I will wait for a smoothie as it sits in the freezer to chill.
I never realized how frickin adorable pugs were until I started reading your blog. Love those puppy eyes!
oh m geeee I love your little pug! My dream dog
Murphy is a smart cookie playing the waiting game. I think any really good dessert is worth waiting for.
Isn’t it great to have a crossfit friendly competitor?!! Mines name is Katrina!
Yes! She makes me a better athlete!
I hope you have special “Murphy knives” that don’t make the rounds to the dinner guests
Burpees might be worse than shuttle runs!
Chuy’s creamy jalapeno dip is definitely worth it! And I think burpees are worse than just about anything else
Murphy has the funniest facial expressions. I just want to pinch that little pug nose!
Any sort of stew/sauce the next day is worth waiting for (or at least setting aside a good portion), after the flavors all had time to get comfy with one another!
I do (traditional) HIIT uphill sprints which I guess would be sort of like suicides… 15s all out max effort- like running for your life max effort… and 45s recovery. The first few rounds are okay but by about round 5 I just want to cry. Or die. Or both. In any order.
But the next day my legs and abs are always in agonizing pain so, worth it
OOO…..ouch. Suicides HURT. I think that worst for me would be….well, I guess suicides. I just HATE how when you are running, you just keep running to the exact same place and don’t go anywhere! As for foods I could wait for…brownies. I could wait for brownies.
Possibly…Maybe…Well…Heck no, Gimme!
Pancakes, coffee, and bacon are my ultimate favorite breakfast! Going to check out your pancake recipe… I think I remember it being paleo friendly
I agree, homemade desserts are def worth the wait. I also wait all year for stone crab season, does that count?!
Burpees are ALWAYS worse than anything else. I will never ever like burpees. Ever. And Chipotle is ALWAYS worth waiting for, especially after CrossFit.
Gah, new link! ^
Oh my! That is such a cutie pie dog!
http://therealfoodrunner.blogspot.com
100 burpees for time. i loathe burpees.
If I even open a nut butter jar, my pup comes running around the corner at the sound of it!
Burpees are tough, but depending on the severity of the suicides, suicides can be pretty difficult. Sounds like your suicides were intense!
Same with Murphy! He’ll be in a dead sleep and come running!
German Chocolate Cake! I will go to be dreaming about this now… THANKS TINA! Now I know what I’ll be baking tomorrow haha great post
Aww, Murphy is so adorable!
Any baked dessert is worth the wait.
The food that’s always worth waiting for is the Sunday roast dinner after a long run…you’d feel rubbish if you ate it before the run, but it’s so satisfying tucking in afterwards, knowing you’ve already burnt off the calories you’re eating!
My dog is obsessed with peanut butter, she always knows when the jar is opened no matter where she is in the house! Food that’s worth the wait…filet from Fleming’s and I’m always ready for anything chocolate.
My Mom was an incredible cook and so many things she made were well worth the wait. Her spaghetti sauce simmered all day and was sooo good. I wish I could duplicate it. Thanks for another great post!
